When Kwaku Baako informed us about the atrocities of Kwesi Pratt during PNDC Regime, some of us did not believe until the truth was confirmed during the NRC. Kwesi Pratt is the most dangerous Journalist Ghana had ever have, he had the gut to recommend his fellow journalists to be executed by PNDC. Pratt even recommended Baako to be killed by the regime, thank God Baako was instead touchered violently and severely but his life was spared. This is what Kwesi Pratt can do. Now Pratt is a secret agent to NDC and US Embassy in Ghana. May God forgive Pratt and spare him the untold evils that will come upon him and his generations. The souls of those journalist killed through Pratt's recommendations to PNDC will never forgive Pratt. Now Pratt has the guts to take Diplomatic Passport and smuggled his weak-headed children to work at the Ministries under Mills NDC, may God forgive Pratt and his dependance and spare them of the evils ahead of them...

We need serious debate and an action plan on dual carriage roads in Ghana. Meanwhile a "tire burst" implies poor road worthiness, meaning the MTTU is not doing its job properly. Enforcement needs to be taken seriously too.

YOU NEED GOVT WITH BRAINS TO LEARN FROM OTHER CIVILISED COUNTRIES TO IMPLEMENT ROAD SAFETY POLICIES - NOT SPIRITUAL INTERVENTION.
The Lord will not send his angels to come and do what He has given us
brains to do. It is the incompetence and stupidity of our brain dead leaders in politics who should be blamed for the deaths on our roads not the devil. The devil is always happy to use idle hands to do his work for him.
We should hold our leaders accountable for lack of road safety policies

What is costimg all these accidents . These accidents been happening between agona swedru, Winneba junction, winneba Apam roads still the 1970s.
What is really the problem, we have lost loved ones too many over. Is it the road, the busses or the goverment.
Its time Ghanaians to have the cars and busses trunk tested every month before the can be road wealthy.
Gone are the days for a tire to burst. Its the inner tube that burst and no car buss and lorries should be allowed to use inner tubes.
I am blaming the government for not having transport policy. We all know these things ( cars busses--) kills us and yet we allow it to happen when we can do something about it.
We should stop importing used cars and busses. No more second parts import and finally new cars and busses should be affordable.
The government is killing our loved ones. May they rest in peace.

There surely are some of us who are concerned about the carnage on our roads but are powerless to do anything about it. All the comments I have read except the odd one address the issue head-on. The person who has hammered the proverbial nail right where it belongs is "fredsaid" in that in such matters the buck always stops with the country's number one politician, i.e. the President. Presidents have come and gone yet none has been concerned about the epidemic carnage enough to act. Successive governments have never shown any respect or concern for the alarming numbers of lives that are extinguished by murderous drivers. Never once have the public been told that a criminally negligent driver has been jailed punitively for slaghtering travellers. It's only an unmcaring or shall I say an incompetent government that refuses to address urgent issues such as this.
What one sees on our roads are immediately a frightening negative array of indicators proving that the powers that should be ensuring safe roads and safe journeys in Ghana are inept to the core.
Ghana roads are are not highways by any means, In fact, the majority of our roads are not wide enough for horse-drawn carriage. Imagine a scenario where two missiles are hurtling towards each other with only a few inches seperating them. The result is DISASTER!
The successive government, if they have any conscience about the carnage and want to act, can easily do so. e all know that our roads are dangerously narrow everywhere except a few places where we can claim to have dual-carriage. All other roads should not have vehicles racing beyond 50mph. That is problem number one in my opinion.
Problem number two is that the vast majority of drivers are people who have little brains. The reason is that most of these pea-brained individuals actually bought their driving licence from corrupt officials. If such drivers cause death by incompetence, then they have committed murder by fraud and deception.
Problem number three is that he vast amajority of vehicles, private and commercial are mechanically unfit for the roads. Vehicles tend to be too old and are a tetanus risk due to too many seats and unpadded protrusions. At times, one can actually see the road surface through a rusty hole in a vehicle's floorpan. If we can't have reasonably healthy vehicles, at least we should endeavour to tighten up roadworthiness test.
Problem number four is that there are too many corrupt traffic offivers who will wave on any driver who bribes them, forgetting that the people that incompetent drivers slaughter could be their own kith and kin.
Problem number five is that the majority of commercial drivers drink and drive or could possibly be under the influence of other drugs. They could be visually or impaired enough that would impair their adrving ability. It is successive government's almost criminal incompetence that people are murdered by drivers.
Problem number six is the fact that mnearly every commercial vehicle on our roads has undergone major alterations that are not in keeping with the manufacturer's specification. Examining Transport officials are incompetent about these glaring facts that render vehicles dangerous. A vehicle that manufacturer has clearly specified ought to carry twelve passengers is routinely altered to carry twenty-three as well as carry heavy load. One often sees a passenger bus top-heavy fully-laden and heaving from side to side being waved on by transport police.
Problem number seven is that passengers are too subservient to drivers's dictates. Even when a vehicle is already overloaded, more passengers want to jump aboard. Seats packed tight with passengers like sardines, no set belts and to make matters worse, some more load is added to the floor and rear. If that is not greed and negligence, what is? If passengers are knowledgeable about their rights and are educated about whatever ther is to know about road travel and can communicate with drivers who like to toy with their lives, I believe that a difference can be made even if our governments remain indiferent.
Our politicians rarely use public transport and don't care what happens to the rest of us. That being the case, we as the travelling public ought to be bold to tackle incompetent drivers. It's our cummulative fares that puts them on the rosd. If other passengers want to remain dumb and let corrupt politicians and brainless/incompetent drivers murder us by the dozen, I, for one, am prepared to caution any driver who demonstrates that he is not mindful to deliver me safely to my destination.
A tyre burst can be controlled by a competent driver who is doing most things right: not overloaded, not drunk, vehicle not altered beyond manufacurer's specifications, learned to drive with an approved driving instructor, not greedingly speeding to make more trips, dod not buy his driving licence, will not bribe a public official to overlook elements of his incompetence to be on the roads, etc.
The attitude in Ghana about the carnage is that if the murdered people happen not to be their relatives, one couldn't be bothered.
We should all be very worried indeed. Let's with one voice tell our present government that the time has come to STOP fraud, incompetence, apathy, and sheer wickedness by road officials and drivers. We pay fares to travel, not to be slaughtered like vermin.
Errors and ommisions excepted. Thanks for reading.
