We have ongoing Gas Processing Plant in the Western Region that should have started pumping gas into the Aboadze Terminal last year.Interestingly, the Minister did not say anything about it.There is also Bui Dam hydro power which has to be completed last year but we are not hearing anything. Are we serious about our priorities? We were told SINOPEC a Chinese Company is prefinancing the Gas Plant with $750 million dollars which will be part of the Chinese $3 billion dollars loan deal. Are they now facing financial problem or what?I think our Universities have produced only lazy graduates who cannot manage the affairs of this country. Why?Thank you.

$3 billion is just breakfast for the Chinese but they are refusing to release it because they know the NDC will make it a waste. The Chinese, unlike the West, have a policy of no default on their debts, that's why they always bring their personnel to monitor their loan projects but corrupt Ghanaian officials don't want that because of their wicked 10% kickbacks.
In any case, the project belongs to 2 Western Companies, ENI and VITOL with Ghanaians owning only 15% of it. Do you think the Chinese will allow Ghana and its Western Companies any loan if they are not sure of getting their money back?

I have worked significantly in my area of Profession on this Gas Processing Plant. But to my horror every work came to a standstill and all the huge piles of Pipelines straddling the pipeline routes were coverred with some kind of black tapouline or black material with huge piles of DUST just before the 2012 elections and after.
I hope work has restarted by now?

It is appropriate to rely on any volumes of gas that we have as a country for use in all aspect as a country, even for export but URGENTLY needed to fire our thermal plants to produce reliable electricity. However for a rather belated long-term production of cheap and simultaneously reliable electricity; we need to build in each Region of Ghana at least one hydro power station of a Bui Dam capacity.
The advantages of many more Hydro stations far outweighs that of the rather EXPENSIVE thermal ones, even if Ghana discovers billions of cubic metres of gas.
RELIABLE ECTRICITY IN GHANA, A MIRAGE
•
The acute water shortage in Accra and the senseless lack of potable water even at
hundreds of villages bordering the Volta Lake (Largest Man Made Lake on Earth
with freshwater) is hard to comprehend as a Ghanaian. The laziest Ghanaian and
the worse one without creativity is the Ghanaian Politician (Parliamentarian /
Ministers including President)
On the other hand these lazy and rudderless Ghanaians get the Highest Pay.
Talking about a sister problem to WATER is ELECTRICITY; The lazy people in Government surround themselves with "advisers" on power, who have NEGATIVE ideas on power generation. Therefore Ghana shall wallow in power generation for endless times.
Since Dr. Kwame Nkrumah constructed the Akosombo Dam, (which has served Ghana faithfully for all these years comparatively at minimal cost) rudderless Presidents term after
term have had virtually NO CLUE as to how to provide Ghanaians with comparative
cheap and regular power. I doff my hat to President Kufuor for providing the
BUI HYDRO PLANT.
How can a country like Ghana, rely so heavily on THERMAL GENERATION OF POWER at the cost of millions of Dollars per week and expect constant flow of power to Ghanaians?
There are "hundreds" of big and long rivers in Ghana to warrant at least 1 MEDIUM HYDRO POWER PLANT of the capacity of Bui Dam in each Region of Ghana, from 1963 (when Nkrumah was overthrown) to date.
For two reasons: all Electrical Engineers (The most pampered Professionals trained in KNUST to date) working in both ECG and VRA are averse to Hydro Power.
Reason 1.
These Engineers are so closed-minded, that they do not advice Government properly on Power Generation.
These Electrical Engineers trained at KNUST are so protected by READY-MADE
& TAILOR-MADE SECURED JOBS at ECG and VRA with "huge" bungalows, cars and fat salaries till pension..
The only work they do is MAINTENANCE ENGINEERING.
Reason 2.
When Thermal Plants are installed these Engineers can get HUGE CUTS in dollars quickly as opposed to hydro generation. So over the years as we install these USELESS thermal plant the top Engineers in these 2 organizations get fat as Ghanaians pay HUGE ELECTRICITY BILLS and an "illiterate" Government after Government since Dr. Kwame Nkrumah takes advice from indolent Electrical Engineers and Energy Ministers to the detriment of Ghanaians.
Other Professionals like Architects / Civil Engineers / Surveyors ...... trained at KNUST who have no Spoon-fed and "Secured Jobs" are rather creative and hard working. Most of them are in PRIVATE PRACTICE. No Electrical Engineer can enter PRIVATE PRACTICE before pension or after pension easily. They stay at Akosombo or elsewhere till they are DRIVEN AWAY from their bungalows at 60 years.
The Foolish Argument put up by these spoon-fed and lazy Engineers is that:- Hydro Generation is unreliable, because the Rivers can dry up as evidenced by periodic low levels of the Volta Lake.
Indeed if Dr. Nkrumah and Colonel Kutu Acheampong had not constructed Akosombo and Kpong Dams, Ghana would have been a miserable place to live today.
JOBS & NATURAL PRESERVATION:-
To the indolent and spoon-fed Electrical Engineers; thousands of
jobs could be created for the youth by AFORESTATION of the whole length of the
CATCHMENT areas of Rivers including selected LENGTHS of the River till it gets
to the sea.
--Each Hydro Plant in each Region of Ghana would provide LAKE for fishing and water transportation.
-- Resettlement of people displaced by the lake would yet create employment for NEW TOWNSHIPS:
When you quickly engage in EXPENSIVE "GYINA HO GYE", quickie; by merely installing Thermal Plants, you pile a huge debt on the heads of Ghanaians.
