It seems as though most of Ghanaian journalists are totally overwhelmed by simple English sentence and as such need weekly refresher course to enhance their English. It is an awful shame; some of these journalists understand double-dutch which is why they water down statements or doctor it to fit their whims and caprices in order to mislead their faithful if you will faithfool readers. President Mahama’s intent was that if and after a leader or founder like Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has laid the conducive groundwork for independence; it is up to the rest of us or millions of us to take the task from there to another level. He is therefore paying tribute to those nameless and faceless millions fathers and mothers, civil servants, market women, farmers, miners etc who soldiered on throughout the 56 years journey Ghana even when times were hard. Trubutes also to our great grandparents and grandparents who jump started the cause to regain our independence. That dates back to John Mensah Sarbah;J.E. Casely Hayford; Dr. Kwegyir Aggrey etc who passed the baton on to Danquah and company and then later to Kwame Nkrumah who soldiered it on to the finish line. But in all this endeavour Nkrumah's vision for Ghana and Africa stood out from the crowd. Which is why Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah wears the undisputed crown of the one and only greatest son of Ghana/Africa.

Here is an excerpt of the speech in order of sequence.

It starts with welcome greetings and continues as follows:

Today, we celebrate the vision, perseverance, and legacy of a generation of heroic Ghanaians.

Today we honour the leadership of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

A leadership that was both committed and compassionate, one that extended beyond words and into action. And even today, significant parts of the national infrastructure we still enjoy are as a result of the vision of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Yet the liberation of an entire nation cannot rest solely on the shoulders of a single individual. Even after a goal has been established by a designated leader, it takes the dedication, focus and work of millions before movement and progress can take place.

Today, we remember those millions, all of the founding fathers and mothers who organized and sacrificed; the millions of brave men and women who fought and died to give this country, and indeed all of Africa, freedom from colonial domination and repression. Some of them have been recognized; their names and faces are on our monuments and on our money. A greater number will most likely remain nameless and faceless.

But the people that made up those millions, those men and women were our grandfathers and grandmothers, our uncles and aunts, our mothers and fathers, our sisters and brothers. It is because of the courage, self--?determination and dignity they displayed that we stand here today, on this occasion, the celebration of Ghana’s 56th year as An independent nation.

In order to make this country free, it took not only the desire for freedom; it also took the willingness, from each and every citizen, to play a part. And we thank God for the lives of each and every individual who took a stand and made a difference in this country.

So for this yellow press rented journalist to put words in the mouth of president Mahama is not only crass but a big shame.

Patriotism means one must love his fatherland and other tribes around him, defend himself and other tribes from foreign invaders.
When it comes to patriotism the deeds and starring the British honest nest by my great grandfathers and grandfathers from paternal and maternal side serves as an example to me.
Though my grandparents were Anlos who live in the Avu Basin they never let the Ashantis fight their battles with the British alone. If they are not in Ashanti land fighting the British, then they intentionally stir the British nest, drew part of the British troops into the Ewhe land.
Mr. Komla Agbeli Gbedema was proud to continue the patriotic actions of his grandfathers and granduncles when he make sure that Kwame Nkrumah did not suffer injustice in a British prison. Patriotism thus to Mr. Gbedema was love for Ewhes, Nzemas, Akans, Dabganis, Moshies and other tribes that were living in the British Gold Coast.
Those who were not patriotic and did not even love the very tribe they came from deserted Kwame Nkrumah when he was imprisoned by the British. They broke the vow taken by our forefathers to stand side by side with each other whenever they are attacked by foreign forces.
Thus Dr. Joseph Danquah, Prof. Kofi Busia, Obestebi Lamptey and other member of the United Party broke the vow, taken by our forefathers and even went to the extend to tell the British that Kwame Nkrumah was the cause of all the problems the British Empire was facing in the Gold Coast, then.
Leaders of the United Party said if they will not assume the executive position in Ghana during the time of her independence, then the British should never grant us independence.
Busia refused to hold the hand of brotherhood that was extended to him by Nkrumah when the latter assume the post of Prime Minister and Head of Government Business. Busia and others even went to the extend of throwing bombs at Nkrumah.
After independence Dr. Joseph Danquah refused to accept the prestigious position of the Chairman of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, to help the country develop arts and use science as a tool to develop. Lt. Gen. Joseph Ankrah refused to tool the Ghana army, a job he was given in the office of the president to perform. Col. Emmanuel Kotoka and Major Akwesi Afrifa committed sacrilege at its highest level by tightening the chain of slavery stronger on our neck.
Imagine if all those traitors were to love Ghana with all their soul and heart. What a strong and great country we would have been today.
Traitors can not be the founders of the same nation they subvert, therefore there were others Ghanaians who played their patriotic role in nation building together with Nkrumah, but they were never leaders and members of the United Party.

The fact is that Dr Kwame Nkrumah of blessed memory did his best for Ghana and AFRICA but also failed grossly in many ways that is why today no matter how hard people push to erase the memory of those who challenged Kwame Nkrumah and toppled his government cannot succeed in their scheme , the Ghanaian people cherished and continue to cherish pure freedom and it is known that ex-president Kwame Nkrumah curtailed this freedom to a large extend making Ghanaian at that time disappointed and living in fear for their lives because Kwame Nkrumah became a real tyrant and fierce despot , people were dismissed from their jobs and arrested without any proper explanation to the extend that every day 1 pm radio announcement was listened to by most Ghanaians because Dr Kwame Nkrumah used it to determine people lives , if 1 pm radio GHANA passes each day without your name been mentioned then you thank your star and wait for the next day, Agbele Gbedemah himself did run for his life under Kwame Nkrumah and many countless of his own political lieutenants went into exile for their lives and finally his overthrow by Colonel Emmanuel Kotoka was the most celebrated coup in Ghana because the whole country erupted in uncontrollable celebration at Kwame Nkrumah,s overthrow because people felt the wicked dictator was removed at last , I bet just let anybody try to play down on the liberation of Ghana under Emmanuel kwasi Kotoka in Ghana,s history by way of removing his memory then you will see the reaction from section of Ghanaians who adore that great for the liberation role he played for overthrowing Kwame Nkrumah and emptying the Nsawam prisons of thousands of political prisoners and restoring freedom of speech and democracy in it own little dimension in Ghana ,thank you and have a good day

This fundamental difference eventually forced Nkrumah out of the UGCC to form the Convention People's Party. Nkrumah led the CPP to win elections to the Legislative Assembly. He and the CPP led the country to independence on 6th March 1957. In 1960, Ghana became a republic and the British Crown ceased to be our head of state.

Nkrumah led us to independence from Britain. UGCC opposed this because they felt Nkrumah was going to fast and eroding the power and privileges of the Gold Coast elite who formed the UGCC hierarchy.

I do not expect that there will be an easy consistency or compromise in these matters, barring the dye in the wool clods especially the untaught shoeshine boys, but it was Nkrumah who declared to the whole world "Ghana was free forever."
