Kwesi Pratt is the most dangerous Journalist Ghana had ever have, he had the gut to recommend his fellow journalists to be executed by PNDC. Pratt even recommended Baako to be killed by the regime, thank God Baako was instead touchered violently and severely but his life was spared. This is what Kwesi Pratt can do. It appears Ghana cannot manage her resources effectively or caught up in the "public bad, private good" argument. Probably, privatisation is a better option provided Ghana gets a fair price so that the huge public subsidy and the large losses will end. That money could then be invested into other critical areas.

For the privatisation of TOR to be coming from the Presidency, it is clear that it is a done deal and nothing will stop that. I hope they do not sell it cheap to their cronies. What a 56th Birthday present to Ghana and Ghanaians?

How can it be sold at a fair price when the company is saddled with so much debt. This I why I was so mad with those who thought GT was sold for a pittance. If you have any knowledge on business valuation and acquisitions you people won't be making such ignorant statements. From PNDC/NDC days when Ghana telecom was sold to those useless Malaysians compared to present Vodafone, if you people will be honest with yourselves, which of these transactions has been worthwhile? NDC made so much noise about the sale only for them to realise they may also need to privatise a strategic national asset.

Unfortunately the state in which TOR is with its mounting debt indicates even though it is a going concern, any investor who knows what they are about will either buy TOR excluding the debt at a reasonable price or including the debt but at a low price. I hope NPP ministers will help the Govt get it right if there is a sale rather than take pot shots and politicise the sale.

All our state companies have become what they are for one simple reason.
Incompetence - The causes of incompetence is that Ghana and for that matter our politicians must realised that any state company like TOR, ECG, VRA, ex-Ghana Telecom etc etc must be run as real-world companies - managers should be real and proper managers and not incompetent party affiliates; All these managers should be given remit and targets with deadlines, if they are not able to achieve the targets on agreed timescale, they get the sack.

Also the managers must be given free hand to run the businesses, if there is the need to sack over-bloated workers, let them be sacked and the workers look for new jobs or create their own jobs.

Govts must appoint competent and experts to the various board of directors and not idiotic party members who cannot even look after a goat, let alone oversee the running of ECG or TOR.

As far as I am concerned the fault lies with our politicians, even Nkrumah made similar mistakes.

In Ghana we have politicise everything even the toilet houses in the towns and villages. The truth is that most Ghanaians main concern is about a better or improved living standards and not what party rules them.

So if our near brain-dead politicians would want to move Ghana forward, they should de-politise all our economic institutions and challenge the managers to rise to the occasion or get the boot, in this situation even if a foreign manager would be the solution, so be it.

If we adopt the above approach, Ghana would still be owing profit-making Ghana Telecom, and we would be owing our TOR in the midst of Ghana a washed with oil. Ghana Airways would still be with us. Ask anyone who worked or had an insight into the operations of Ghana Airways - incompetence and fraud galore, compare that with Ethiopian Airlines, state owned, profitable and efficient service.

Another basic question we should ask ourselves is that, why are foreign investors interested in buying these assets if they are potentially not profitable? The answer lies in incompetent management - Ghana seems to be expert in incompetent management despite the country soaked with so many university degrees.

If we are bent on the sale of TOR and others, then we should make sure that ordinary Ghanaians can be part owners or buy large proportion of the shares and management taken out of the hand of govt.

PRIVATIZATION is the best business solution but we are not there yet; we are still young despite our fifty-six(56) years of independence, we are very much embroiled with 'corruption' and 'individualism'. How many NSAWAN canneries do we want to see out there, or how many VODAFONE institutions do we care for!
The saddest part, of course being, we do not possess the technicality, and in the end, we shall see the leadership signing DOCUMENTATION for which he had no clue; we shall not WIN!

Our cocoa, timber, and all exports are carried by foreign companies. That is one way traffic for money. All international flights are by foreign companies. Another one way traffic. In the case of airlines it is conservatively estimated that we are leaving $3 billion on the table. Sea shipping may not be too far from that.
The next thing they will sell VRA, ECG, Water Company.
The NDC government might as well sell the government!!!

TOR is sold in advance, it is just being broadcasted to see how the public will react. Our millions of comments won't change anything. It is part of the deal, the party financiers tell what they want even before the elections start.

I have had the shock of my life to read that Hon. Rashid Pelpou is advocating for the privatization of the Tema Oil Refinery. So when will our technocrats begin to face the realities of privatization which has always been the easy way of resolving national economic issues. In the same vane when the Water Company management crisis came to the fore, Government cheaply brought in Aqua Vitrans as private partners to manage the company only to collect the fortunes of the company and abandoning the infrastructural development of the the facility and resulting in what the nation finds itself today. The TOR is a strategic economic entity which its management should not be placed in the hands of foreigners. The fact is if the current management is inefficient they should be done away with and get competent people to take care of TOR. The fact is if private partnership is resorted to it is people who will be brought down to use same Ghanaian workers to work and so if there is managerial problems or whatever, Government should undertake a forensic audit of the work attitude, professional competence of the workforce and any other needs that will unearth the rot at the Tema Oil Refinery. There should be drastic overhall of the Refinery.

I worked at the refinery with people like the NPP ING Kwabena Sarpong when it used to be operated by the Italians(Eni) in the 1960. Even after the overthrow of the Nkrumah's CPP, the GHAIP as was called, was profitable and efficient in its operation until when the PNDC the mother of NDC took over and then we who had foresight left the company to foreign countries to for better life to escape the brutalities of the PNDC. Had the vision been visualised by the NDC then to operate the refinery with foreign partners, I think we will not be in this mess. Please I do not know how old you are but all the same I will advise you to know that IT IS NOT NPP that kill the GHAIP or TOR but the senseless nationalisation with incompetent front office management that has caused this situation.

If this is their argument, then, why don't they privatise the Government? They will not even go and read and listen to what Nkrumah was saying instead, they were burning his books and articles as instructed by the CIA. All these little Mahamas, Rawlings etc. think they have a mind of their own comparable to that of the Seer: Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah. Samia, who seems to believe more in Nkrumaism is also being fooled and corrupted with this CPP-name dogma to the extent that Nkrumaism is being ridiculed in Ghana.
