Good job by a Ghanaian institution at last. But how did these drugs get into the country in the first place? Customs, Inspection at the port or country of export, and certification by FDA etc?

Folks, know that even in the advanced countries of the world, stuff like the importation of counterfeit medicines and drugs are common. It is the vigilance of the various FDAs and Inspection Agencies that thwart the efforts of those involved in the importation and distribution of fake and dangerous drugs. Additionally, in Western countries, there are many in-country reputable pharmacies that are subject to rigorous inspections and monitoring to ensure that only good quality drugs reach the open market. People usually get fake drugs through the internet and online purchasing. For a whole country, I think the Ghana FDA has done very well to catch and expose this (I dare say) ring of criminal activity. The real question is who is behind the importation of such obviously unsafe and hazardous drugs for Ghana?

On the question of whether customs officers could have stopped such imported consignments of dangerous drugs, we all know how the Customs Officers are; they are no different from the Ghana Police: a little bribe and the whole consignment gets through. Recall the case of the Deputy Commissioner of Police who switched cocaine with Baking Soda powder? That should tell you something. Kudos to the Ghana Food and Drugs Board. Keep it up. Ghana needs you!
