That is the most silly statement I have ever read. To a people (Black/African people in American), who does not have a real African country they share LEGION with, which African country do Black/African people in America send money to? All of them? How about more African counties meet Black/African people in America HALF-WAY? Grant Black/African people in America (your brothers and sisters) the right of dual citizenship and if they do (or don't) decide to repatriate: Tax them (such as, citizens of Ghana)! This way Black/Africans in America would actually HELP the country: like Asians do their. Dummy.

The organizers of Panafest have good intentions and have brought tourism and some development to Ghana. However, my assessment of the situation is that unfortunately,the executives and decision makers have not been diverse. As a result, it has become geared towards a limited segment of the African-American crowd. It could have been designed a bit more broadly to create local interest and interest from Ghanaians and other Africans who have lived abroad for extended periods of time. For instance, Panafest should have a film festival that includes a number of contemporary films from different countries. Moreover, there should be musical performances from the hiplife, coupe decaler and Naija artist who are popular right now. I think when Panafest started, traveling to Africa was a novelty to many so it was a way to get people in the USA to take that "first trip to Africa". Now people have many other options. There are plenty of tour groups going to Ghana and other African countries so there needs to be something to distinguish the event.

Emancipation Day & Panafest were very enjoyable and educating when they were going. It helped us to bond under a unified cultural & historical umbrella!

I think it is a good idea but something needs to be done to distinguish this event from all the other tours that now organize Africa trips. Things have changed. Panafest now seems like just another tour group.
