  Ghanaians do not take environmental or animal protection very seriously at all. Some flora and fauna once lost not only set off a devastating geoenvironmental chain effect, but also cannot be replaced.

  No Tress - No Forest - No Nature + pollution + littering = a butt-ugly Ghana that is not fit for purpose and for which we should all be ashamed to have allowed to happen.

  Timber and wildlife poaching and "galamsey" are all interrelated. They all reflect a basic lack of authority of the state to enforce its own laws.

  I personally know some timeber contractors we have partnered with the chinese and raping Ghana of its timber just because of the little money they are making. Open your eyes please and save these forests.

  What is the use of the forestry commission in Ghana. Individuals are being paid for no work done. I would not be surprised if the workers of the forestry commission take bribes for people to cut the logs. Poor Ghana.

  Certainly, the timber industry is a major cause of deforestation in Ghana. But the biggest culprit is the unsustainable agricultural practice. Studies indicate that timber firms account for 15 to 18% of total tree removals from the land. Farming activities account for 55% to 60% while charcoal industry and surface mining account for 20%. Until we adopt sustainable farming activities even if we completely bring timber activities to a halt the forest will continue to dwindle are the rate that is significantly the same as it is going now, 65,000 hectares per year.
