  Since Zoom Lion assumed the cleaning of streets and management of waste there has been some improvement in environment protection. However, there is more to be done. There is a huge employment and economic opportunities in waste management from recycling, composting, transportation, logistics etc.
  The Ghana Water Company is not positioned to provide potable water for all Ghanaians. Water is life, and can prevent many communicable diseases in the system. The introduction of bored holes and small town water projects has helped it little bit. However, there are some problems with individual bored holes because of the location of the bored holes in close proximity to sanitary soak-aways, or drain fields. Ghana needs to look at introducing community water supply structures whereby gated communities, educational institutions, hospitals and any like minded residents team up and develop a single system from deep bored hole, and supply or pipe the water to homes of members of the community. This is what is called the Public Utility Districts (PUD) in the USA. These systems could be managed as non-profit cooperative, or for profit BOT (build, operate and transfer) agreement. This will decentralize water supply and take a huge burden off the GWC and government and improve the lives of all Ghanaians.

  Our water bodies were clean and abundant with fish until the Ghana government allowed the Chinese and the galamseyers to do as they wish. Now the most inteligent solution the government came up with is to pull soil on people to burry them alive for 48 hrs, then recue them again, to show they are doing something. Funny!

  As much as I hate to admit Rawlings was right with his statement. If they have had listen to those who were concern with the president health, he might be alive today.

  As a nation, we have turned a blind eye to certain illegal actions by people who careless about the general good of the country. These individuals continue to pollute our water bodies with impunity. When are we going to sit up and hold these people accountable for their actions? It is sad to say that as a country we continue to maintain that "I don't care" attitude to the detriment of our future.

  Those who had to chat with him for one hour everyday, those Deputy Ministers who had to call him every morning before the man could even brush his teeth, and still those who would be called to the Castle by the late President to express his appreciation for job well done after they had gone to insult political opponents in the media on his behalf.   In Ghana Accra, the capital of Ghana and Kumasi and their environs account for the majority of urban dwellers. These metropolitan areas are characterized as dark and filthy. They have high incidence of malaria, cholera, and other environmental related diseases. Piped water is unreliable, solid waste management is abysmal; homes are built without permits and in flood prone areas. Majority of homes in the suburbs have no roads water or sewerage connections. Accra, the capital city of Ghana, and Kumasi, the second largest city are no exception to deplorable condition of African urban settlements.

  We have been plaqued by water-borne diseases like typhoid, cholera and enterotoxigenic E. coli for a very long time, mainly due to poor hygiene in Ghana. We pollute our water bodies upstream with excreta and drink the water downstream.These tradiional "water pollution" can be easily controlled with education, filtering and biling our water or through chlorination and proper sewage disposal.
  One kind of pollutant that will plaque us is LEAD.In the gold producing areas, lead is used to extract gold and is then dumped into the rivers. This lead finds its way into fish and any living thing that depends on water including human beings like us. Lead poisoning causes nerve damage, anemia,mental retardation and learning problems among other problems.
  There are now large scale illegal surface mining entities in several areas of Ghana who are polluting our rivers silently. The effects of lead poisoning will linger in our communities because traditional ways of water purification such as boiling and filtering, even though they remove harmful bacteria, do very little for lead removal. We will surely pay a bigger price that the benefits we get from a few ounces of gold!WE should should stop protecting the illegal gold miners and make them aware of the harm their activities are causing us and future generations.
  We must speak up and take action or be quiet and paythe heavy price later!
