In addition they use these same illiterates as a 'tribal-screen' and behind it do their dirty politics. A good example is CERTIFICATE-LESS Jake Otanka Obestebi Lamptey and now Akuffo Addo.

If you need a lawer and think Akuffo Ado is not good enough, fine go get yourself another one.
Justice Kpegah is being a disgrace to both the judiciary and the legal profession. If in his long and 'distinguished' career as a judge he has only just discovered that Akuffo Addo is a fraud, then he Kpegah himself has been asleep throughout hie legal career.
He should know ALL the legal practioners and their chambers as a matter of course.
If you live abroad like some of us do, and have to deal with the fallout of the economic meltdown in Europe as well as having to accommodate request of financial help from family and friends in Ghana.... then you will understand why I feel so livid that a STUPID matter like this can sieze a whole nation for weeks.

This whole national controversy is based on the assumption that, despite Akufo Addo's claim that he has a law degree, he actually has none. If so, then he is a "charlatan", an imposter or a pretender. It is up to Akufo Addo to step forward boldly and counter-prove the assumption. Why can't he simply do that and clear this decade-old, lingering air once and for all?

And if, on the other hand, he doesn't have a university law degree, why does he claim he has it? And why did he practise law without a law degree? This, I understand, is a persistent question that goes back decades. Why can't Nana, after all these years, show proof of his law degree? You may also be right in saying that "Nana has better things to do with his time!" But, probably, Nana has only better lies to tell with his time.

It will be wrong for even Nana Addo to say anyyhing at this stage because that will be his weapon to counter sue justice Kpegah if it turn out to be untrue. I think Nana Addo is doing a good thing because he is not afraid to come to the court.

The lawyers of Nana Addo clearly stated on joy FM pannel discussion that they have not yet received any suit from the court or from Justice Kpegah so what is your problem Mr Brew. I think most of you lawyers need refresher courses and no wonder our judicial system is choked..

we know of some court clergs who went round deceiving people that they were lawyers.most of such characters hail from either ashanti or eastern regions. some even use the certificates of their dead relations in seeking for jobs all over. they can be found in the army,police,prisons service and more especially at some of the schools. this ever happended in a school in the western region some years back when a man from the ashanti region managed to get a teaching appointment as a headteacher with somebody's certificate. this was detected after six months but it was too late he had impregnated four of the girls of the school. akuffo addo's claim should be digged into and the truth told the whole world. he should tell us which law school he attended before been called to the bar. he should not throw dust into our eyes!

The recent show down was the former President of Germany called Herr Christian wulf who was dismissed after it came out that even though he possesed his Phd,doctorate in political science, he stole some ones thiesis on the internet,the 2nd one happened on our noses here in Ghana when the present Veep was challenged to produce his masters degree he obtained from Legon in economics in the year 1971,obviosly he also kept silence over it for some time but ,produced a photo copy of his masters on the internet for very skeptic to read and that brought the matter to its logical conclusion.Please Nana do us a favour to accede to what I have suggested to you to avoid further embarrassment to your teaming supporters and you in particular.

Ladies and gentlemen, there are a lot of quack lawyers all over the world, in particular in the UK and in Ghana. We wonder why Nana is silent.

He is running scared. The people defending him have not done a good job. Hiding behind the cloak of silence and anonymity is thoughtless, nonsensical and rather tragic.

I concur fully with His Honour Justice Kpegah. The burden of proof is on Nana to prove the following:

(a) The name of the law school(s) which he attended in the UK and the dates.

(b) All his Christian Names, first names, middle names and surnames with which he registered at the Law School (s)

(c)Whether he has a Change of Name by Deed Poll establishing categorically that he is indeed "William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo" and the only person known as that.

(d) At what point did he add "Nana" to his names? William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo does not have an "N" anywhere so technically, he is impersonating him. That is the law. The law may be an ass, but that is the law.

(e) Whether there is anybody else in his family or circles known as William A D Akufo-Addo. People do have similar names. People have sat driving tests and other exams for other people. We all know this.

(f) When he arrived in Ghana from the UK. Was it in 1974 or 1975? What happened during the gap between 1971 and 1975? We know he was called to Middle Temple in UK 1971. He also was clerking as a paralegal in France at some point. No decent barrister in those days goes off to become a paralegal. You go and do your pupillage and then you practise as a barrister, period. Unless there is a dark cloud hovering over you.

(f) When he came to Ghana, whether he was fast-tracked to the Ghana Bar. Why he did not sign the requisite papers at enrollment?

(g) Did he have a Change of Name Deed and publish in the National papers of this dropping of the William (or Billy) and adopting of Nana? Or is he now going to swear an affidavit and backdate it?

(h) Did he assume the first name, "Nana" because of his royal status? If so, is he a kotiboto as people are alleging?

(i) Anyway, after he did the change of name, did he notify the Ghana Legal Council immediately or not? If so, when did he notify them? Where is the documentary evidence to prove all of the above - the certificates, the graduation photos, etc. the classmates, the teachers..

(j) Did he practise Law and appear in the Ghana courts, French courts and UK courts under the first name "William" (Hee hee Billy goat) or under the name "Nana"?

(k) Is he a practising barrister and solicitor in Ghana? Is he in good standing whilst he has been chasing his political career and ambition to be president of Ghana?

(l) How did he bamboozle UV Campbell and take over his chambers? Was it done legitimately? Can we interview UV Campbell?

(m) Finally, if there are any other skeletons in his cupboard, is he prepared to inform the Ghana Legal Council? There may be reasons why he is not fit to be a lawyer or why he should be struck off the role for impersonation and conduct unbefitting of a Barrister-at-Law.

Is he a lawyer or a non-practising lawyer or is he a law clerk, paralegal or a person parading himself or passing himself off as a lawyer.

If he is a real man, he should hold a press conference immediately and answer all of the questions above or he will forever be a laughing stock. Wig or no wig, Nana is not a lawyer until he can prove that Kpegah is not just suffering from senile dementia, but speaking the truth. The legal fraternity is a closed shop. They cover up all sorts for their friends and family. Now we should examine all the lawyers - they should attend courses and training and renew their registration every year. They should have continuing professional development. If they are not practising they should not hold a certificate, just a letter saying exactly so and stop pretending. Enough is enough. Clients should go and get their money back and send written complaints to his chambers if they are dissatisfied with the service in any way..

This is because this accusation is not coming from an ordinary Lay Man, who is not a member of the fraternity, but rather, it is coming from a former Justice who is a member.

Kpegah was a Supreme Court Judge and had had several interaction with Nana, why didn't he come out with this allegation till now that there is a case pending in the court about the past election which he Kpegah is feeling the heat? This is a smear campaign targeting Nana in an effort to win "sympathy" from the general public who are (excuse me) to say that they are illiterate like those snooping around to destroy Nana.

I don't think this is a case of smear. Kpegah could not have challenged Nana's degree when he was active in the Supreme Court. Kpegah did not also bother anybody until the NPP youth ignorangly pushed into explaining why he will never quit the government bungalow he is staying in as permitted by the condition of his service.

But can anybody tell how Kpegah should prove his claim beyond accusing Nana Ado of not doing the right thing? Is it not like somebody saying that you have no teech in your mouth and you opening your mouth showing your 32 teeth to prove the person wrong? There is no way anybody can prove beyond reasonable doubt that you have no teeth in your mouth if you remain mouth-and-lip-tight.

And whether Nana talks or not, the suspicion has already been cast; and he cannot dodge the question at all. Nana supporters should reason with facts and stop being political because no amount of counter attacks, condemnations, insults, and assaults will kill the matter. Let us open the Pandora Box.

Filmmakers, like novelists, usually do their best work when they set it in places they know best. The imagination can be sharpened by exile, but just as often it is stifled. For it is hard to achieve intimacy in an unfamiliar context.

To be sure, rare cosmopolitan polyglots, such as Max Ophuls, managed to make movies almost anywhere—Berlin, Paris, Hollywood, even Amsterdam. The filmmaker Michael Haneke—not an exile—has made masterpieces in France as well as in Germany and his native Austria. And what would old Hollywood have been without the Viennese wit of Billy Wilder, the Berlin sophistication of Ernst Lubitsch, or the Parisian finesse of Jean Renoir?

But failures in cultural transition—some of them interesting failures—are just as common. This is especially true when artists have to work in a language they don’t know. Oshima Nagisa is a fine director, but his French film Max, mon amour, starring Charlotte Rampling and a gorilla (her love interest) is dreadful. And Michelangelo Antonioni’s American movie, Zabriskie Point, must rank as one of his worst.

Several Western directors have tried to make movies in Japan. Most are terrible. Dr. Arnold Fanck, a German specialist in “mountain films” starring the young Leni Riefenstahl, made a Japanese Nazi-propaganda film in 1937, featuring a self-sacrificing Japanese hero in a setting of Shinto shrines and smoking volcanoes. It was panned by Japanese critics. In 1953, Joseph von Sternberg—admittedly a pale shadow of his brilliant former self—made The Saga of Anata-han, about a Japanese woman stranded on a Pacific island with ten men. It was not a success.

More recently, foreign directors have done better in Japan. Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation (2003) was funny, insightful, and ravishing to look at, but her main characters were Americans. And Clint Eastwood’s excellent war movie, Letters From Iwo Jima (2006), featured Japanese actors, but was not really set in Japan. Now we have Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami’s Like Someone in Love. The actors are all Japanese, and the story takes place entirely in and around Tokyo.

Like Someone in Love has all of Kiarostami’s usual preoccupations: the passage of time, the mystery and contingency of human intercourse, the shadow of death, the illusions of love, the intimacy of being isolated from the world in a moving vehicle. But the setting in Japan does not feel arbitrary; it has a point. Tokyo, the ultimate modern metropolis, with its neon-lit commercial graffiti and buildings that look like a pastiche of everywhere and nowhere, is perfect for Kiarostami’s story of closeness between strangers. To most foreign visitors, Tokyo looks uncannily familiar and yet deeply strange. Kiarostami is a stranger in Tokyo, but his depiction of the city is extraordinarily intimate and delicate.
Kiarostami’s idea for the film began with an image. Driving in a taxi through the raffish entertainment district of Roppongi, he filmed an elderly lady standing on a street corner. Who she was, what she was doing, why she was there, was a mystery pregnant with possibilities. In fact, she was an extra hired by Kiarostami to figure in random locations. This is the way Kiarostami prepares his films, with fragments of staged life filmed with a video camera, like sketches made in preparation for a large painting. He was also fascinated by the photographs of call girls pinned up in Tokyo telephone booths.

In time, fragments began to cohere into a story about a college student from the provinces, working as a call girl in the capital. The old woman on the street corner became her grandmother, waiting in vain for her granddaughter at a railway station, while the girl passes her by in a taxi.

The call girl (Takanashi Rin) is on her way to the apartment of an elderly professor (Okuno Tadashi). They have never met before. He doesn’t want to sleep with her. They make small talk. He has laid the table and opened a bottle of champagne, as if to recreate a long-ago scene of romance before he dies. The girl falls asleep in bed. The dinner is never consumed.

Like Someone in Love

The professor drives the girl to her college the following morning. Her jealous boyfriend watches them arrive. The girl brushes him off. While she is taking an exam inside, the boy steps into the car, mistaking the professor for her grandfather. Later, when the boy finds out who the professor really is, he launches a violent attack on his home. What happens after that we will never know. What the professor wanted remains a mystery. In fact, we don’t know very much about the lives of the main characters at all. Pasts are only hinted at. And yet we pick up a great deal, from their conversations, their habits, their fears, their obsessions. Knowing little, we still feel at the end of the film that we know them.

This is the peculiar genius of Kiarostami. He explores human character, and the vagaries of human lives, without explaining, without turning the lives into neat stories with a beginning, a middle, and an end. Life isn’t logical, nor are our encounters with others. People are rarely what they seem to be—to themselves, or to others. Which is why Kiarostami’s films, though often detached, even artificial, still feel like life.

One way he achieves this effect is to withhold the story from his actors even as they are making the film. They are given their lines on a daily basis. As in real life, they never know what will happen next. The most extraordinary performance in Like Someone in Love is given by Okuno Tadashi, a professional film extra who had no idea he was being cast for a main part. His confrontation with the jealous lover, in the car, has all the tentative awkwardness and misleading intimacy of a real close encounter with a stranger. In a way, they are not acting out parts; they are, as it were, living inside the movie.

This is another recurring theme in Kiarostami’s work: the porous borderline between art and life, the illusory nature of authenticity. Taste of Cherry (1997), one of his most brilliant movies, ends with a camcorder shot of Kiarostami and his crew shooting the film we have just seen. Like Someone in Love ends in an act of shocking violence, inside an apartment outside Tokyo, which was built for the movie on a real location. Like Kiarostami shooting the image of the waiting lady through his taxi window, we have observed other people, while filling in the mystery of their lives with our own imaginations. Through his work of art, Kiarostami has given us a piece of life, familiar, yet deeply strange.

Taste of Cherry (1997)

An artistic tragedy of our time has been the systematic destruction of the Iranian cinema, one of the great modern film cultures. One by one, Iran’s best filmmakers have been forced by their theocratic government to stop making movies in their own country. Jafar Panahi is in prison. Mohsen Makhmalbaf languishes in Paris. Kiarostami, perhaps the greatest director of them all, can still live in Iran, but is prevented from making the kind of films he wants there.

Still, if anyone is equipped to overcome the cultural handicap of working in a foreign milieu, it is Kiarostami. A modernist, in his Iranian films he plays with concepts of time, mortality, and contingency; the films are so pared down that they become almost abstract. Taste of Cherry, about a suicidal man driving around in his car picking up random passengers in the hope of persuading one of them to help with his burial, is set in Teheran, but could be almost anywhere. Yet it does not feel like nowhere, either. The people are Iranian; they are in Iran; they speak Farsi. This makes even a rather formalist film look real, rooted in real life.

Kiarostami’s first film made in the West, Certified Copy (2010), starring Juliet Binoche, was filmed in Tuscany. The landscapes and cities are unmistakably Italian. And yet, to me, the film did seem oddly rootless; the setting seemed arbitrary—beautiful certainly, but arbitrary. There was no earthly reason for the story of a mysterious love match between a French antique dealer (Binoche) and an English writer (William Shimmell) to be set in Tuscany. They speak a mixture of English and French. There are no Italian characters of any importance in the entire film. But perhaps that was just the point. As was true of Roberto Rosselini’s wonderful Journey to Italy (1954), with the Swedish Ingrid Bergman and the very English George Sanders, the foreign location dramatizes the couple’s mutual sense of alienation. They exist in an oppressive bubble, cut off from their familiar surroundings—a bit like the director himself, perhaps.

Certified Copy (2010)

One thing Journey to Italy and Certified Copy, and indeed Taste of Cherry, have in common is that much of the action takes place in a car. The same is true once again in Kiarostami’s latest film, a much more satisfying work, in my view, than Certified Copy. To say that it is the best film made by a foreigner in Japan would sell it short. It is a great movie tout court.

Abbas Kiarostami’s Like Someone in Love is being screened at the Stockholm Film Festival this month and is now showing in France and Japan. A US release is expected in 2013.

Myjoyonline.com has procured a list of persons on the Roll of Lawyers in Ghana which seems to authenticate that, 2012 torch bearer for the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo was called to the Bar in Ghana, in the year 1975.

The document contains names of all lawyers called to the Bar in Ghana from 1877- September, 2005. It states the year a lawyer was first called to the Bar or admitted abroad and the dates they were enrolled in Ghana.

The NPP flagbearer has been sued by a former Justice at the Supreme Court, Frank Kpegah for alleged impersonation.

Justice Kpegah is claiming information available to him indicates that Nana Akufo-Addo was never called to the Ghana Bar but “rather one W.E.D Akufo-Addo - who was called to the middle temple in the United Kingdom on the 22nd of July, 1971 and on the roll of lawyers in Ghana as No.1190.

However, the document obtained by Myjoyonline.com has one “W.A.D akufo-Addo (M)” on Page 26, as having been called to the Bar on July 22, 1971 and enrolled on July 8, 1975 as No. 1190.

Many "so-called" doctors have been arrested in the past for not being GMA members not because they were probably not treating people well but because they were purporting to hold titles they were not qualify to hold. The issue is Nana Addo did not take the exams, let alone the MATRICULATION OATH to qualify as a lawyer.

It is a simple administrative act that can be done at any time. One feels sorry for a former Supreme Court judge who is going insane and getting more doddering and child like.
