  The opening paragraph states, “I came to serve; I have finished my time here on earth and have moved on to everlasting rest and celestial duties with my heavenly father.”
  
  The immediate question is; how did the dead man come to sign his own personal tribute, since he is already in heaven?
  
  The letter then goes on melodramatically, “As you leaf through these pages of my life’s story, I pray to God that it touches your heart in many positive ways. Weep not, I am not dead.   This is the result of weak leadership, irrespective of party. Ghana currently needs a nationalistic and autocratic leader who will stand firm in face of difficulties or pressure from any group of persons even if they come from his/her own party. The government should seriously review the relevancy of some of these lecturers (or instructors). There are far too many of them teaching some useless courses in the universities. They recycle old notes and sell them to students. Most of these students don’t have any marketable skills when they graduate – they cannot communicate properly (orally or in writing); they lack analytical and problem solving skills; some even don’t know the subject matter of their studies. The government universities should concentrate on programs that are relevant to the economy. There is too much duplication of useless programs across the universities. Honestly speaking the country won’t hurt significantly if the universities are closed for about one or two years, the government will have ample time to study and close down irrelevant departments or programs. The lecturers should be made to reapply for their jobs and sign contracts never to go on strike.
  I am sick and tired of these useless strikes. Mahama and his government may resolve not seek reelection, bite the bullet and take serious action(s) against these strikers. They should review salaries (and useless and expensive allowances) of all public servants including MPs, ministers, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, etc. They should remove all subsidies and perhaps increase taxes.

  The problem is simply the lack of quality and visionary leadership.
  Note, that the courses content of the universities is supposed to be directed by a national development policy which is prescribed to be formulated by our governments - past and present. If they failed to do that then it will be unfair to blame entirely the universities/lecturers.
  I agree that we need some restructuring of tertiary education but what can implementors of policies do when the formulators of the policies have been sleeping or at best adamant.
  Mahama shoot himself and the government in the foot when he allowed the decision to hike salaries of the executive and the legislature to more than 500%. Do you expect a professor who taught a first degree holding minister to be comfortable taking half or less of the minister's salary?
  Do you expect a graduate teacher to be comfortable when one month salary of a course mate at the university, some with even a lower class could pay his 12month salary?
  Should all of use go into politics and forget about other equally important aspects of the economy?

You asked for book allowance how many of you have bought a single book with this amount Govt should not give them the book allowance but rather let them get invoices for books to the tune of the allowance and pay directly. You use the same notes that you have been using for the past decades, go on vacation when students are in on vacation, do not go to the campus when you do not have any lectures. Compare this with workers who work the whole year and rest for only 30 days. Use your knowledge to do consultancies, Govt should call off their bluff and get workers in offices to take over and teach students on part time basis

We have nearly 90 ministers and deputy ministers to pay. 45 new District Chief Executives and their staff and office running costs to deal with. There are so many other "officials and senior advisers at the Presidency including Dr Cane Mills. Where are we heading as a country? Obviously there will not be enough money to pay our teachers, doctors, engineers,nurses and other public workers well. Ironically we can afford to spend 15million on 600 guinea fowls and 20 of their eggs! What do you want to do to this dear country of ours? Mr President and your NDC government answer Ghanaians.

If someone give you a job contract and you negotiate and agree on how much you want to be paid for that job only for the person to decide to pay you something else less than what you both of you agreed on (signed contract), what will you do? UTAG is simply demanding the payment of salary arrears Govt has refused to pay since January 2012 nothing more and any reasonable person should understand that.

  Strike upon strike. Strike actions are like the bush fire; sparked by fire ripples from burning grass and exploding fruits and burning trees. It is not easy to stop strike actions when they freshly start with everybody seemingly interested in the action.
  
  Wise and good Negotiators for good salaries and better Conditions of Service, do not resort to strike actions at all. They believe getting "half bread" than a "toogb33" or "bofroat". Strike action is the last resort - that is, when Management (government) reject and refuse to accept workers' damands. But strike actions cannot be cheaply applied because of delayed actions or responses by Management.
  
  The government should also apply the following suggestions:
  
  1. Allow the strikes go on; but with immediate stop of payment whilst they continue stay away from work. No work, no pay.
  
  2. If it takes the government a week, a month, or year to fish out money to pay teachers, doctors, lecturers, etc., the payment should be made minus the number of hours they have stayed away from work.
  
  3. Meanwhile, the government should call on those who want to go back to work to do so and be paid current salaries until the problems have been solved.
  
  4. Government should drastically cut on spending; MPs, Ministers & Deputies, Party Functionaries on salary, Corrupt CEO and Directors to be dropped; and Probity & Accountability should be enforced in government and all government institutions and individuals.
  
  5. Government to give a deadline for all strikers to return to post or be considered as having vacated their posts. Anybody who does not return to post, should be considered fired, not retired with benefits.
  
  6. Finally, if any reader does not like my suggestions, he/she should just introduce his/her best plans.

Govt has refused to pay that agreed salary since January 2012 and UTAG has been patient for all this while trying to get govt to pay the arrears rightfully due them which govt has obviously decided not to pay. UTAG is NOT asking for new salaries that is the fact so dont get them wrong.

  luxury housing?? are you for real? university housing for lecturers are low cost housing in states which make them unappealing. as a fact most of the professors you are mentioning are living in their own houses not govt's whilst the vast majority of lecturers have opted to rent and pay for accomodation from landlords outside the universities. even if that wasnt the case, unversity accomodation is only enough to cater for just about 10% of lecturers

  As a sign of respect and concern for the public sector workers, the president must cut his salary by 30% and so as the MPs and Ministers. That will appease people and ensure fairness and equity. Workers are not fools.

The amount to be paid to UTAG is not up to the total cost of MP's cars not to talk about MP'S house loans. When it comes to teachers and lecturer's the politicians confuses the whole world as if they earn the highest. The journalist's, should come out with the total amount due UTAG and total amount paid to MP's as car loans and you would agree that, that of UTAG is no where near that of the MP's cars (i mean in totality). UTAG does not enjoy any loan facility yet still the little due them is also not forth coming. Why is the minister for education not coming out but hidding behind some faces to appeal to UTAG. Yes , we know its a government issue and not the minister but her position but can anyone find out from the minister if she is part of UTAG or not
