This is truly nonsensical. Being the “best” among the worst or the mediocre is not the proper way to measure the effectiveness or efficiency of VRA’s operations. Considering the resources – labor and capital – poured into the organization are they doing a good job? The answer is capital NO. VRA must revamp its operation and find a good way of satisfying its customers or accomplishing its mission; they should stop wallowing in the belief that “…. among the blind the one-eyed person is the king”.

What an insult to the continent of Africa. Unfortunately, Ghana which was the first is despicably not even among the first 20 best today in Africa. May be VRA's first is comparing to their ill organized corruptly managed NEPA of Nigeria but certainly we can't compare ourselves to even smaller countries like Togo, Botswana, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Benin Republic, Gambia, Namibia, Angola or even Burundi and a lot and lot more.

What role does Ghana which is becoming a dead country where nothing works play in Africa today? Nothing!!! It's disgustingly a shame.

As a result of power shortages all the local small scale industries have died out and some of the once lively bigger industries looking like battle fields. What a shame!

This Awotwe mumu man can say this to his wife and children in his government paid house but certainly not to the entire people and country.

Let me tell you Nigerians' inability to access electricity is a sabotage by some few people in that country. Some officers of their National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), now Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN,) are the ones who are into generator sales business. Do you think Nigeria cannot produce electricity more than Ghana? But why are they suffering on electricity, when Nigeria has four dams, as compared to Ghana's only Akosombo dam. Now, is the West African Gas Pipeline not coming from Nigeria? Do you want Ghana to also be like Nigeria? Then you are not a good citizen and you don't think well of Ghanaians.

Nigeria, even with these four dams, some places will be without light for some months. Some Nigerian big men are selling generators. That is why they don't want the electricity to be stable.

I believe you have also started selling generators to Ghanaians; hence your unpleasant comments.

What statement are you talking about? Nkrumah did a lot but we've failed to improve upon what he did. We have many vision-minded Ghanaians like Nkrumah who could do even greater things than Nkrumah if given the chance.

2. Nigeria has over 10 generating power stations as against about 5 stations in Ghana.
3. Nigeria has the longest transmission lines and highest number of substations in West Africa.
4. Nigeria is currently embarking on deregulation of the power sector and more than 20 new generating stations are under construction that can increase install power generating capacity to 20,000MW by 2018.
5. Ghana power infrastructure is less than what exist in Western Nigeria.
Please stop comparing Nigeria with your minute country and stop mentioning this little 1020MW Akosombo dam.Nigeria has 1320MW generating station at Egbin in Lagos and 3000MW hydro power station under construction in Mambilla.Ghana hub of West africa! It's indeed funny to note that our country still prides itself as the Black Stars of Africa and the Gate way to West Africa. Well, not until I left the shores of Ghana to live elsewhere, I was also under the impression that Ghana is the BEST (to borrow from Mr Awotwe) country under the sun. Mr Awotwe must travel and see. As a country we're always comparing our so-called success story with our neighbours in the north (Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali) and Liberia, Nigeria, oh come on!! why do we want to always wallow in mediocrity. These countries we're comparing ourselves to are failed states, not developmental states. At least if we want to benchmark with other African countries let's think of South Africa, Botswana Mauritius, Namibia, not Togo and Benin! I even have a problem why we can't benchmark with Europe, North America or Australia/NZ?
Now, let Mr Awotwe answer me: What research has he conducted to conclude that Ghana has the best electricity access in Africa. It's disturbing when people of Mr Awotwe's status make such unfounded and spurious statements, just because he can get away with it without being challenged to substantiate it.
I tell you, Ghana is very near to being classified as a failed state, forget about the so-called Middle- income status we've awarded to ourselves, it's sakawa/419 status.

Countries like the DRC, Uganda, Rwanda and so on only have between 6-10% access to electricity and it's quite expensive. Some electricity is better than none.
