CRYPTOCRACY AND CRONY CAPITALISM IN GHANA. This non-performing ex-minister Oquaye is defending the indefensible. Every 4 years you guys plunder state coffers under the pretext of Article 71. Ghanaians must hold a referendum on this non obligatory ex gratia and finally abrogate it. Oquaye, your abominable behaviour is inexcusable.

In Ghana everything is shrouded in secrecy due to sinister forces and powers in disguise. For the love of money they (NDC and NPP) condone and connive. It has become crony capitalism and has nothing to do with party politics. This is “cryptocracy“ to say the least for a few elites or thieves who have been given the key to the treasury of our national coffers. To put it blunt this is daylight robbery at gun/pen point.

The present situation in Ghana is like flipping a coin – you either get NDC or NPP (head (n) or tail) but the irony in the whole matter is no matter how you flip the coin it falls on the same side. NDC and NPP are the same side of the coin. It is like in Greek mythology; Ghanaians are stuck between Scylla and Charybdis. These monsters of sea both devour you. Boy oh boy, it is like having to choose between a rock and hard place or find yourself between the devil and the deep blue sea. Either way it is not pretty. Ghanaians are PUNKED!!!!

After all these freebies they still cry for ex-gratia. It is high time to abrogate the ex-gratia. It is long overdue.

Ei! Wonders shall never end. Just look at the political scene how all the MPs have gone absolutely silent because they have ears but they can't hear, eyes have they but they can't

Where are the NPPs,and the NDCs who harddly appear not to see eye to eye with each other on various topical issues. But strangely enough when it comes to 'aboa sika', they bury their supposed differences and the mathematical formula of one plus one is proved wrong, the answer is no more two but ONE. Ei MY PEOPLE!! Ghanaians be reminded that nothing on earth set up by man is set in stone such that it cannot be amended to reflect the changing trends of our time. Even the Almighty God who created us and never intended us to sin, at a point in time realising how mankind was perishing stepped in to make changes to His own plan for manking by sending his Son to die to save us. With this in mind WHAT STOPS THE GOVT to consider a referendum on the Almighty ARTICLE 71 of our Constitution, most loved by our GREEDY MPs, of course for their own selfish and parochial interest and other POLITICIANS, to reflect the changes in our dynamic world to inject ordinary common sense( which is not common to common people but is often neglected but is very very essential)into our political system.

Are our politicians so ignorant as not to be abreast with current trend of economic order in the world?

Mr President Mahama, with all due respect, please cast your eyes on the poor people of Ghana who lined up on their hungry stomach, to vote these people, these people, these GREEDY MPs to Parliament only for them to be stabbed in the back. The only thing you can wisely do in the spirit of Solomon of biblical times is to embark on a referndum on Almighty Article 71 of the Constitution. I trust in your humility and gentleness to fight for the poor Ghanaian workers as against the insensitivity and selfishness demonstrated by the foolish utterances of the so called professors and former MPS who only care about their stomach.

These fools have closed their hearts and ears to listen to the citizens they are supposed to protect and are just interested to line their pockets with our scarce resources and the only way these idiots called Politicians will learn is a popular uprising by Ghanaian civilians to march to Parliament house and the Flagstaff house and throw these fools out and institute a government by the people for the people and not this fake democratic rule going on in Ghana where the leaders are just interested in amassing wealth.

The problem is that, Ghanaians unlike Nigerians are timid and as much as most of us hate Military rule, it is getting to that point where people will embrace a 1979 like Military intervention for a short period and get rid of these thieves by sending them toi meet their maker lining these Politicians up at Teshie range and putting lead between their eyes, THIEVES.

NONSENSE, they were paid their salaries for four years with benefits and some of these fools have received this benefit five times since 1996. Bagbin has received this loot five times amounting to almost $350,000. How much can Ghanaian poor continue to stomach this nonsense without pushing these thieves into the sea?

The whiteman's system works well in most democracies of the world---with very good healthcare, educational systems, etc. Before Ghana's independence in 1957, it was very easy to do business in any gov't office by any citizen, without strings attached. The same cannot be said of post-independence Ghana. After Independence, the leaders who were supposed to help Kwame Nkrumah build our nation became very corrupt, selfish, & egocentric. Since then, there have been one group of leadership after another failing to clean up the corruption; putting their interest above the common good of the citizenry: hence despite all the nation's wealth & resources, the level of poverty continues to get worse & worse. What a SHAME!

If this argument was coming from any other person, I would have understood. I am really shocked the Prof Oquaye (a pastor and law professor) is making this argument. Higher compensation due to risk involved? How about the police man who is putting his life at risk in order to keep all of us (including politicians) safe from armed robbers. How about the soldiers who are currently in Mali putting their lives at risk to ensure that the jihadists are stopped from matching all the way to Accra. How about the GRIDCO technicians who are climbing tall transmission towers to ensure that electrical power is available and reliable. Please, Prof. Ghanaians are not fools. We deserve better. Dont forget that MPs begged for our votes in order to go to parliament. We did not beg them to go and represent them

Contract indeed Mike!!. To be a legislature is a choice made by self to serve your constituent through healthy debate on national issues. By so doing you intend to invest time and energy on bills that will better serve the interest of your constituent to whom you owe allegiance. So Prof. at best your contract is with your constituent but not the state. That is why some are voted out of office for non performance. Having served as a legislator though, I think the state owes it as an obligation to see you off by packaging your benefits as lump sum to sustain you while jobless. To argue therefore that you deserve because it is a contract honor by the state is completely misplaced. The ordinary electorate should learn from this and never to kill each other for our greedy politicians. God bless Ghana.

I shudder to ask what has gone wrong with common sense in Ghana? My question is not based on hatred? How can Ghana justify paying a teacher a mere Ghc3000 after serving 25 years? Something has terribly gone wrong in Ghana.

Nobody forced them to ran for Parliament in the first place anyway. The notion of them being in parliament is a contract is a serious joke that isn't even funny to make anybody laugh. And why should MP's who retained their seat be given any money while still on the government's payroll? No wonder why there is not enough money left to pay teachers and doctors. What a shame?

Even if the job of an MP is a short term contract renewable by the pleasure of the electorate, it is also the view of the general public that the work of public servants are based on contract, whether long term or not. A seniormost public servant having worked for 30 years and over will not get that amount (C200,000)doled out to MPs after serving for just 4 years. The genearlity of the citizenry is saying that this reward is too much and should be revised. PERIOD!!!!

They won't do it because it is a grab-what-you-can-galore in Ghana now. What kind of contract this is I don't know. If it is a contract, as this man claims, then it is a bad one that needs to be revoked.
This payment is an example of how the people elected to serve have used their positions to lord over people and also find all means to get moneys paid to them. Parliamentarians have gotten all kinds of loans for what God knows. By the way, does any body know if the many loans these MPs have received are paid back? Where is our modesty as a developing poor nation? Is anybody paying attention the struggling schools and Hospitals needing all kind s of help? Where in the world do out-going MPs get paid? The other day, it was grand settlement for the President leaving office. This is stealing from the people.
If there is a law requiring these payments then that law needs revisiting.

Ghana has had a history of individuals, trained and educated at the expense of the taxpayer, using their expertise and training not to advance or improve the lot of the country and the unfortunate Ghanaians but to amass wealth and exploit every opportunity to dupe and enrich themselves. How many of these technocrats and bureaucrats have even invented anything to solve common or basic challenges in society. In Ghana, we have Professors and other higher degree holders, the question is, how have society benefited from their training in terms of improving the lot of the average Ghanaian?
