  I was laughing so much at these comments that I almost forgot the topic. Observer has made a serious point.
  
  Everyone is afraid of the unknown, if our children/students are afraid of something, it is the responsibility of educators to find the root cause of the fear, and permantly eliminate it.
  
  African children can not develop to their fullest potential because of a flawed education curriculum. Africa needs to develop a system of learning that will decolonize the minds of Africa's young people, once that is accomplished, African students will tackle any subject enthusiastically and successfully.
  
  African teachers must be taught that mathematics began in Africa, they must know that the Greeks and Romans (Europe's earliest mathematicians,) trooped to Africa to learn mathematics from their African masters.
  
  Ghanaian children learn a Foriegn language as a first language, and their native language as a second language, Foriegn deities are heavenly, African deities are devilish, all forms of learning began outside of the Continent of Africa, it's enough to drive an elephant crazy much less a child. We must reverse the curse.
  
  Students fail mathematics because the teachers are not properly trained to explain concepts in a way that students could easily grasp. The professor should be ashamed of himself for accusing the students of being afraid of mathematics, when the subject is being presented in such an abstract form, that sometimes even the teachers get stuck trying to solve certain math problems.
  
  Decolonize education in Ghana/Africa and I am absolutely certain that African students will be a force to be reckoned with internationally. Mr. Professor, please remove the obstacles that cloud the students' vision, and please stop blaming the students who are the victims.

  One school of taught thinks that mathematics is the basis of creation and the other also thinks that it is the gateway for development. This tells the importance of the subject in human development. In every walks of life, the use of mathematics is applicable. No one lives the home without looking at the time, hence mathematics cannot be looked down upon. Mathematics Educators should therefore find a motivational approach in handling the subject. I know they try to teach from the unknown to the know or from concrete to abstract. The use of Teaching learning material should be seriously encouraged. The use of negative reinforcement shd be avoided. The topics shd never be introduced without related previous knowledge. For those in the Home Economics class most of them have low IQs hence, absolute practicality must be encouraged at all times. By so doing we can overcome the fear people have for the subject.

  I wonder why he was allowed to beat us like that for just teaching us factoring and indices in class. He would use the break time to teach so he could humiliate students who were both good and bad in algebra.Beating them with the twigs from the mango tree. What a very wicked teacher.

  I have always loved maths and had the opportunity to teach mathematics during my national service. I had no problem teaching science, general arts classes but then as one progresses to the home economics classes things take a big turn. and yes fear plays a huge role. These same students are taught by the same teaches so not sure where and how it came to be as such. I would spend weeks explaining basic stuff in the the home economics class and a day or less in the science.
  I do feel teaches play a role because they it seemed as though they did not give much time and attention to those who had difficulty or should i say "fear". I know there is an academic school year to adhere to but the at the same time i feel and think is better to have them understand stuff than just give up on them.

  Until their teens,children should be taught Maths in the language they are most comfortable in.learning Maths in English at an early age is foolish.

  Watch this Professor very well.He was the one who advocated seriously for the abolishing of the 4-year SHS system and re-introduction of the 3-year system.This NDC underground politician had very strong backing of the then Minister of Education,Hon.Alex Tetteh Enyo and ignored all appeals by experts in the field(a Professor from UEW,Headmaster ADISCO,Mathematics Educators and tutors in SHS)that the 3-year system is too short for students. From the year of admission to the time of completion the 3years is short by 3 terms.Seriously the students do 6 academic terms instead of 9.If students study only mathematics even one year is enough, but they are doing as many as 7 or 8 subjects.Before he became a professor he had
  a 7-year SHS system of education but now he is advocating for 6 academic terms.
  He succeeded in throwing dust into the eyes of the poor Ghanaian tax payer by collecting huge sums of money yearly from the GeTFund since 2010 to organize workshops for few students and teachers to prove that the 3-year SHS system is very good for the nation.I say you should watch this cheap and frustrated Singapore returnee professor who has found Ghana a fertile ground to cheat and exploit the Ghanain tax payer.
  VMG is nothing good for the Ghanaian student and I challenge this professor seriously.Refer this to GES-CRDD to prove me right.It only shows very fast abstract ways of solving mathematics problems without fundamental principles and concepts which will create more fear of the subject in the students.
  If we want to improve the system we should look at Ghanaian based experts and recognized subject associations.
