The government should try to pay the agreed arrears and then FIRE them. Anyone interested in working for the government should reapply for the job and made to sign a new contract which will make a strike action illegal and do away with all the bogus allowances. If they don’t like the new conditions they can go and set up their own practices or even leave the country. Those who owe the government and are not re-employed should be made to pay the government in full. Life may be difficult, especially for the sick and their close relatives but sometimes one has to take the bitter pill or bite the bullet. Mahama should not pamper anybody or group of persons (including his own “close” associates or the party); it will be better to be a one-term nationalistic president who will ensure development of the country than to be an ineffective two-term president. TO HELL WITH ALL THE “STRIKERS”.

A significant number of Ghanaian public servants are spoiled, lazy and outright incompetent. All they care for is opportunity to cheat the government and “allowances”. They work about 2-4 hours of the day. The doctors refer the patients to their private clinics – in effect they use the hospitals as conduits to funnel clients or recruit clients. The lecturers recycle old notes which they photocopy and sell to students. The pharmacists pilfer drugs or also refer clients to their private “drug stores”. Some public servants go to work at 10:00am, go to lunch from 12:00 to 2:30pm and close at 4:00pm; and then go to fill their pot bellies with beer/kebabs and chase girls with the bribes they collected at work.
I bet you; at least 50% of Ghanaians workers cannot survive in US, unless they undergo serious retraining, indoctrination and change their attitudes.
I know very well that there is a shortage of doctors in Ghana before I made that statement. I said they should be allowed to reapply for their jobs (under different conditions). If they refuse to reapply where will they go? There aren’t enough private practices to absorb all of them; or they will go set up offices in some single rooms.
The government should FIRE any group of persons who go on strike and each employee should be made to reapply for his/her job. They can use the opportunities to remove the chaff and also to downsize. The public sector is outrageously bloated and grossly inefficient. There are far too many MPs, ministers, directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, etc.

The minister should know he is not incharge if doctors, and should know he is the middle man between your government and the doctors. A good minister dont talk about things they dont know. Tell me and the whole world, which area of the Ghanaian economy can we praise John Mahama for? Everywhere chop chop and mismanagement. That is why foreign aid into the country has dried up. The whiteman is not a fool to tax his citizens to bring the money for stupid half baked educated idiots to mismanage their money in the name of judgement debt. How come drs must only go strike before their complaints are resolved. You can check, all the issues that the doctors raised since 2011 have needed a strike action or threat of it before any of them were resolved. If drs were really essential service providers like govt keep saying, would this have to happen?
Drs had to go on strike before they were migrated unto single spine. They had to go on strike before the gov't realised that they owed them arrears, and now they are on stike again bcos of the schedule of payment of the arrears and the reduced pensions etc. What kind of stupid govt is this, with stupid ministers like Agalaga.

Greedy B... Presisdent, government, ministers& MP's have not shown leadership. Why not schedule their own huge pay-outs in these times of money crunch. That being said, doctors should have shown that they are better humans. Hostage-taking with casualties shold be reserved for terrorsist, so how far should our sympathies go? If they don't remember God, the employer can easily divide them & rule so that they are even worse off. Make a new contract spelling pay/work conditions. Use the first instalment to pay any doctor who will collect all, after which he will be sacked, but can re apply on the new terms. Thenwe will see the stubborn ones who just want to make a statement against the good people of Ghana. If no one should owe no one else, how about our mothers who looked after us?
