That is the profession they have chosen to become. What about the economists, the information professionals, the engineers, researchers etc.. If they all gang up in associations and begin to make unrealistic demands...what happens? No body says anything...they are just holding govt and the sick to ransom because they seem to have a strong position in the eyes of people but quite in fact to the contrary in my opinion. If government deals with them quite decisively, they will change their irresponsible demands and "come down to earth" to live like us who have chosen profession to serve the people.

So what is new.
The goal post is now changing. They are now talking about pensions.
These so called NEC executives don't even know that if you do not attend to OPD cases, they become emergencies.

The Price of an illegal strike can be termination of appointment or a suit by third parties who suffer a loss as a result of such a strike.
The Doctors appear not to be worried about termination of appointment because they know the government has no political will to take such a decision.
We live to see in the future when an aggrieved party takes an action to claim a huge amount of damages in respect of a dead relative. When this day comes and the GMA is forced to pay such a compensation through their noses, then they will sit up to understand the reason why certain clauses have been inserted in the labour laws and their service conditions or in the oath of service they have sworn to humanity

It is sad that this phenomenon called strike keeps recurring. With time, it has become more multidisciplinary than before. When that day of law suit for damages comes, surely, many lives will be lost because healthcare will be so expensive that many will not be able to afford it unless there is a good social program to take care of such people. This brings us to square one, the same government(s) that has(have) not paid these doctors well will not be ready to spend a pesewa on such programs. How would they get their ex-gracia.
