Right now, other than the ineffective internal control mechanisms within the police establishment, no one is essentially policing the Ghana Police Service (GPS). And hence police personnel - rank and file - get away with brutality, high-hardedness against the population they are supposed to serve and protect.

Police officers not only openly engage in bribery and corruption, they are also petty thiefs and the lie. What a shame?

If these rouge policemen and their supervisors are not seriously punished, the integrity of the Police Service and the judiciary will be further tarnished.

The police force has been bribed with bad implementaiton of Single Spine by a corrupt government that came to powwer through theft and you expected their recruits and new appointees to be honest...the system has been corrupted hence junior ranks being promoted over their seniors and now JDM appointing them as superior officers with no better experience than their counterparts who have served our country with distinction. Do you know now the Mills/Mahama administration has out out a circular that higher education in the Police force will not yield a promotion? What are we teaching our officers? School is not important? That is why they have started recruiting arm robbers.

Police is there to protect the citizens, ensure law and order are respected and above all to be proactive in their responsibilities. What if this tanker had exploded at the time individuals were siphoning fuel, something which could have been easily triggered by a smoker. The Police should have cordoned off the area, doused the tanker with anti -inflammatory liquid and secured the site but not to steal. Idiots

On the other hand the driver and owner must be charged for causing environmental damage. The police did not siphon the fuel from the vehicle without the knowledge of the driver or owner!!! As a patriotic Ghanaian if I see such a waste of resources I will raise an alarm for all nearby people to come and take the booty instead of draining into the environment! Atleast those who scoped the petrol can sell it and it becomes a useful product since fuel is not meant to be drained into the environment! Manna from heaven -I guess.
