The lives of four survivors of a gas explosion in the Central Region hung in the balance for several hours as the strike by doctors deprived them of qualified medical attention on Monday.

The gas explosion survivors, who were rushed to the Central Regional Hospital, struggled to get medical attention because doctors had activated the second phase of their three-week strike.

The gas explosion occurred at 12:30 GMT on Monday at Ayensu Dumi in the Komenda Edina Eguamfo Abirem constituency in the Cenytral Region.

According to Citi FM's Central Regional Correspondent, Kwamena Bamfo Adjei, the only medical personnel who were present at the hospital when the casualties arrived, were national service personnel.

He noted that they (national service personnel) were forced to offer some medical attention because the doctors were not available.

Due to the severity of the conditions of the victims, the service personnel were forced to transfer the victims to other health facilities.

One of the casualties was transferred to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital for plastic surgery.
