The woes of Sam Jonah leading to the sale of Ashanti Goldfields was partly due to this umpasse. Rawlings refused to bail out the company when it's hedging that had been so beneficial to the company got into crises. Rawlings and his Tsatsu Tsitaka then were quick to find buyers to buy the then AGC, but the smart Jonah suceeded in swearving them and with the support of Lonmin and sold major shares to Anglo and formed Anglogold Ashanti.
