Some have condemned him as a fraud, while others endorse him. Prominent Nigerian church leaders have labeled T.B. Joshua a fraud, but that has not stopped Christians in South Africa, Europe and the United States from supporting the controversial faith healer. TB Joshua, hosts daily services that attract thousands of visitors to his Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos, the country's largest city. Pilgrims flock to the sprawling compound seeking cures from terminal diseases, infertility and other ailments. Reports of alleged healings from cancer, AIDS and multiple sclerosis have circulated widely through videotaped testimonies.

Pastors of Nigeria's largest churches say Joshua mixes Christianity with occult practices. During a leadership summit held near Lagos in July, they firmly denounced him while discussing the issue with a group of Americans that included theologian C. Peter Wagner, Colorado pastor Ted Haggard and prayer leader Chuck Pierce.

"Without exception the Nigerian leaders said they believe [Joshua] is not a legitimate minister of the gospel. There was no debate about it," said Haggard, pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs.

The summit was held at the world's largest church building, Winner's Chapel in Ota, pastored by Bishop David Oyedepo. At one point the pastors joined hands and prayed that God would prevent Joshua from deceiving Christians with false miracles. The Nigerian leaders included Oyedepo; Mike Okonkwo, head of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria; Enoch Adeboye, general overseer of the fast-growing Redeemed Christian Church of God; and Ayo Oritsejafor, pastor of the 26,000-member Word of Life Bible Church in Warri.

"T.B. Joshua is dangerous to the body of Christ, both in Nigeria and globally," said Joseph Thompson, a facilitator of the summit who is an associate pastor at Haggard's church. A Nigerian himself, Thompson said he is concerned that some charismatics who tend to "chase after miracles" will be duped by Joshua's use of Christian terminology.

"Americans don't realize that witchdoctors have healed many people" in Nigeria, Thompson told Charisma.

There is no question that Joshua sends mixed signals. Although he prays in the name of Jesus, many of his methods are unorthodox. He converses with angels during sermons, speaks of traveling to other places in the spirit realm and has been known to ask people to walk through the audience naked to prove their healings.

Some Nigerian leaders claim that animal sacrifices have been performed in Joshua's church to generate a source for occult power. The pastors contend that this is the reason Joshua does not travel to other countries to conduct meetings.

Earlier this year, supporters of Joshua claimed that a 76-year-old man from South Africa was raised from the dead at the Synagogue. A videotape shows Joshua blowing into the man's face after commanding him to rise. The account was posted on FarShores, a Canada-based Web site devoted to paranormal phenomena including sightings of ghosts and UFOs.

Yet several prominent charismatic leaders have visited Joshua's compound and returned with favorable impressions.

These include Canadian renewal leader John Arnott, Pittsburgh pastor Joseph Garlington, Louisiana evangelist Marvin Gorman and New Zealand minister Bill Subritzky.

Arnott said that although Joshua is "secretive and mystical," and his Nigerian followers seem "zombielike," he is not ready to denounce him as a false prophet.

"Lots of desperately ill people have been healed there," Arnott said. "There seemed to be definite miracles going on, and they were done in the name of Jesus."

Arnott also noted that a South African evangelist, Kobus van Rensburg--who has been heavily influenced by Joshua--has established a healing center in the town of Stilfontein, near Johannesburg. This month, van Rensburg will be speaking at Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship, which Arnott pastors.

South African charismatics were at one time flocking in large groups to Lagos to attend Joshua's meetings, but Charisma has learned that such support is waning.

"T.B. Joshua is no longer the flavor of the month there," said Peter Vandenberg, executive vice president of Christ for All Nations (CFAN), the ministry of evangelist Reinhard Bonnke.

Two years ago CFAN sponsored a huge outreach in Lagos that involved more than 2,000 local churches--and none of those churches endorsed Joshua, Vandenberg said.

"Every one of them said that Joshua does things that are occultic and that what he is doing is not doctrinally correct," he added.

Although Bonnke's organization has not condemned Joshua publicly, CFAN has adopted a firm stance and will not work with Joshua in Nigeria. Added Vandenberg: "We stand with the majority of Christians there who have denounced him. Our brothers in Nigeria are on the ground there, and they know best."

1. You fail to accept that T B joshua is a conman, a 419, a false prophet (even if he has to be addressed at as a prophet)
2. By his organisation conducting this event without condering any health and safety procedures rather think only of the money and fame they could get leading to deaths of people is a CRIMINAL OFFENCE.
3. I the the Ghana police to be holding TB Joshua and his mafia in their custody pending their investigation. Anything less the TB Joshua and his team's arrest is shambolic.

We were deceived by greedy Pastors who concentrated on contribution and honoring themselves with gargantuan posters rather than God. They taught us how to dress to the neck as if dressing alone could take us to heaven rather than concentrating on how we can deny the flesh and concentrating on the Holy Spirit for directions. That is why they loose their anointing for big cars and houses.

Prophet TB Joshua has come to correct the mistakes of greedy pastors. Time would tell when these pastors would run to Him and asked for His forgiveness.

Those who died at SCOAN Ghana actually killed themselves because we were all advised several times to go back and form lines but we did not listen. Women with hilly type of shoes could not struggle through the streaming crowd toward the entrance of the door. Those who stripped off from their shoes to the ground could not have the slightest chance to struggle to the top, the streaming crowd flowed over them. These lead to 4 deaths befire me with somany injuries, some of which were not reported. I was also injured but it was not serious to be reported. All these happened while police struggled to control the crowd to prevent further casualties. It was a black day for SCOAN Ghana. We moan with the deceased family. Let us allowed SCOAN to change Ghanaians and the world. If Ghana reject SCOAN, Ghanaians would suffer too much to get to Nigeria for the TB Joshua to heal them. TB. Joshua's anointing water healed my brother from stroke and 24 years of leg-ulcer. We thank God for the lives of Prophet TB Joshua and the wise men. We pray that God would grant him extra wise men because the harvest is plenty but the laborers were few.

A prophet is called of God as was Aaron. The problem is people nowadays give themselves the title and find ways and means to win souls. People are buying their way to the priesthood. He can also claim that Roman 12, 1Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4, etc are not part of the bible. In summary, man is still a very stupid being. The Bible is clear on some of these things - by their fruit, you would know them. TB Joshua is all about exhalting TB Joshua. His services have nothing to do with pointing people to salvation in Jesus Christ and to any true christian, this is chrystal clear. If people cannot read the Bible and figure out who are the false prophets, then they deserve to be hoodwinked anyway.
Personally, i am tired of hearing Rev Bempah go on and on on this matter and making all kinds of wild allegations. This whole schoolyard back and forth needs to stop. The test is simple and is prescribed in the Bible itself. If any preacher exalts himself as opposed to exalting Christ, they are false prophets...period...end of story !

Lot of people were going to see the mighty man of God Prophet T.B Joshua, so I think because of how the place was that why it killed those people. They also indicated in the news that 30 were injured so you want to tell me it was the holy water that injured them. Let be realistic and put the facts to where it belongs. We can not accused somebody just like that not ordinary person but a recognize man of God. So if the police do their investigation and there is no evidence can the man of God come to Ghana again. This country we need to take away that spirit of jealousy and be very courageous and kind to all manner of people be it ethnic group, nationality or body type. If this pastor owusu said he have the believe that God did not called that great prophet let him go to the prophet and deliver him from what he is using to built his great ministry.

Lack of support services to majority of people who live below poverty line is creating and harvesting all kinds of Pray for me mantra across the country. In people minds, they generally believe that, their problems are man-made and it is a spiritual. Every one should have a faith and belief, but not necessarily in christ as wildly proclaimed by christians. In 21 century people are believing in this inexplicable theory about the strenght of holy water to save them from economic hardship without committing to work. People are having a high expectation with low skill to compete in the job market. Govt and public agencies ought to take on unscrupulous churches and pastors who are inflaming people's aspiration. Peopel need to read unemployment rate in the country, where some church are better targeting or preying on vulnerable congregation.

It is also our prayers that we all guard our attitude to avoid reacting in a manner that may not glorify the Lord.

According to the Bible, the Tower of Siloam was an ancient tower in Siloam in south Jerusalem.

In Luke 13:1-5, in a discourse on the need for individual repentance for sin, Jesus refers to 18 who died when the Tower of Siloam fell on them.

Apparently they were innocent victims of a calamity which was due to no fault of those killed, probably, as a result of a stampede, also.

The Tower of Siloam itself is mentioned only in Luke 13:4 as part of a larger passage contained in verses 13:1-5.

"Some who were present" reported to Jesus that the cruel ruler Pontius Pilate had killed some Galileans while they were worshiping.

Their example was particularly gruesome since at the moment the Galileans were killed, they were worshiping God, according to their Jewish religious law.

A contemporary analogy would be if some anarchists should interrupt a communion service, slit the throats of a few worshipers, and pour their blood into the communion cups.

Apparently those making the report were looking for Jesus to offer some explanation of why bad things happen to good people—in this case even while they were worshiping.

The "sin and calamity" issue involves a presumption often made even today that an extraordinary tragedy in some way must signify extraordinary guilt.

It assumes that a victim must have done something terrible for God to allow something so tragic to happen to them.

Jesus responded as though the question was related to the relative sinfulness of the victims, but only in passing.

In a sharp retort, he diverted the focus directly onto the interrogators, making it clear that the most urgent issue was not an explanation to their implied question as to why God allowed such a horrible thing to happen to innocent people.

Rather, Jesus wanted them to focus on their own souls.

Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way?

No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem?

No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” [Lk 13:2-5]

His mention of the fall of the Tower of Siloam added a nuance to his prior point:

Accidents happen. Therefore, even in the absence of persecution, death can come unexpectedly to anyone, irrespective of how righteous or how sinful they are.

He may have been emphasizing that the time granted by God for repentance is limited.

Whether due to persecution or misadventure, repentance is universally strongly and earnestly required by Jesus.

The time is short, and therefore the time for repentance is now.

In his response to both tragedies, Jesus firmly dismissed personal guilt or causation as the reason they became victims.

Instead, he turned the focus onto those wanting to hear "why".

Twice in this brief passage, Jesus declared, "...unless you repent, you too will all perish." Jesus' clear focus is on the need for everyone to "repent" of their sins before God.

His answer cannot mean that all unrepentant people will die deservedly. Neither can it mean that people can escape physical death by repenting of their sins since eventually every living person dies.

So perish here is something more than just to die a physical death.

The word "perish" in the New Testament very often refers to a terrible judgment following one's physical death. Since Jesus connects it directly to sin and says it can be escaped by repentance, "perish" here most logically refers to the final judgment.

For example, in John 3:16 Jesus says, "For God so loved the world that whosoever believes on him shall not perish but have everlasting life."

Perishing is the biblical alternative to having everlasting life. Perishing is what happens to those who don't have eternal life.

The same principle appears in John 10:28 where Jesus says, "I give them eternal life, and they shall not perish for ever."

Unforeseen circumstances befall us all, and these are trying times, especially, to the loved ones, family members and friends. Let us, prayerfully, remain solemn, and not to fall in trap of pointing accusing fingers to anyone.
