Like the FBI, the BNI reserves the right to take in individuals for questioning in matters that involve the presidency. Legal action and subsequent punitive measures could be taken later. For goodness sake, let's allow the BNI to do their job instead of viewing every situation through the political lens. The president can be ridiculed and discredited so long as physical harm is not intended. It is when physical harm is intended that the BNI comes in. The equivalent of the BNI is the CIA. The CIA comes in when there is a threat to the life of the president or national security is at risk. Ghanaian authorities since time immemorial have made the BNI as some kind of god. If it were any developed democracy, the director of BNI would have been preparing for court to explain why an individual who have freedom of speech should be arrested by the BNI. The indiscipline started from the top and trickled down to others and there is no way to stop it. I am glad Mahama and Akuffo Addo do not use such nauseating vocabulary.
I am against such disrespect for our leaders but what can the BNI do? If it were the USA, that would have been a field goal for lawyers. The question to ask is that DID THE PICTURE MENTION ANYWHERE THE NAME OF MAHAMA, PRESIDENT OF GHANA? This is why BNI should have known best not have arrested the guy. How can they charge him in court? The judges will just throw away the case. Anyway, with the BNI arrests and involvement, the picture is further going to spread around the globe. This issue as disrespectful as it is should be treated with caution. Did the President order the arrest of Omari Wadie? This is a personal issue between the President and Mr. Wadie and the BNI should not get involved in it. A photo is circulated of a man who looks like the president of Ghana doing something despicable and an arrest is made. The reason given by the police is that the suspect had doctored a picture of the president but my questions are,

1. How did they determine the identity of the man in the photo?

2. How did they arrive at the conclusion, that the photo emanated from suspect.

3. How did they conclude that the photo was indeed doctored?

4. Did the president lodge a formal complaint?

I do want to see the security move swiftly to respond to all security issues but the current trend where opponents of the government are easily rounded up and it takes eternity to respond to other issues is worrying!

If the Security had established that the image in the photo was the president and that they are doctored, what then is the purpose of this arrest. What else is there to establish?

Shouldn't Michael Omari Wadie be sued instead??

Ghanaians should not sacrifice personality cult for freedom of expression. If the president feels offended he should go to court and seek redress.

This is nothing but Omarie excising his right to freely express his opinion about the president. It may be in bad taste, hey, that is what democracy is for. We should not allow the removal of the military dictatorship of the late 1970s to be replaced a despot called Mahama.

Look a writer once wrote: : "Nazis came for for the Jews and we did not talk because we are not Jews; they came the Czechs and we did nothing because we are not Czechs, then they went after the Russians and Britain, and the whole wide world was set ablaze."

Those who will aquiesce with the BNI and Mahama's bidding will soon find themselves on the wrong side of history.

My fellow Ghanaians, Omari Wadie has not offended the constitution - the supreme law of our land. He is only alleged to have photo-shopped somebody's imaged believed to be that of John Mahama.

I do not have all the facts, but Mahama is beginning to behave like he was not in Ghana on June 4th, 1979. I hope he comes back early to celeberate the June 4th with Jerry John and his cadres. But if he does not, then I will say he has betrayed the course of our revolution.

Ghana arise and stop this personality cult Mahama is trying to curve for himself. This will be over our dead bodies. No one person in Ghana is above the law including Omari Wadie and John Dramani Mahama. He has a constitutional right to sue Wadie in court for libel and scandal if he has the facts that the said image is his. That is up to him and the court of law to decide. Does Ghana not have too much to consider except such follishness? People are complaining of domsor, domsor, lack of adequate water supply, galamesey by Chinese undocumented migrants, ritual murders and a host of others. Is this what BNI should be preoccupied with when there are more serious economic crimes going on in the country? The BNI have erred in arresting Omari. It is wrong and we must stop this nonsense. I am an NDC card bearing member but Ghana will not.

I repeat, never again allow dictatorship to flourish on our doorstep. Somebody should take BNI to court.

This is suppression of freedom of the press. It has nothing to do with violating the national security of the country.
