Airport too to be closed down? This is such a disgrace my stomach is turning. Oil, gold, diamonds, bauxite, manganese, timber, cocoa, cashew etc, yet we can't balance our books to pay our bills. In my many years in this country, this is the first time am hearing such an unpleasant threat concerning our only International airport. Oh G-d, help us.

This matter which I deem it very sensitive must be seen to be redeemed as early as possible to avoid the unpredictable circumstamces that might unfold in the long run.How can the door way to Ghana be allowed to close down because of a peanut of debt to be settled by another state Agency, viz,the airport company.The company should know that , the Meteos also have diverse responsibilities to meet to make them a business entity and one must not forget that Ghana is no more a centralised socialist state where a contingency fund is allocated to be used to settle debts between state corporate bodies of this nature.However, the Govervment should act quickly to save the unpleasant situation to avoid the free movement of people to and from GHana.

If you are computer literate kindly google for the Convention on International Civil Aviation that was drawn up in Chicago in 1944 that gave birth to the 18 Annexes dealing with various aspects of Aviation. The Annex dealing with provision of Meteorological Services for International Air Navigation is Annex Three, signifying the relevance of Met information to Aviation. If GMet carries out its threat by withholding its services no International Airline will land at KIA. The DG of GCAA, who was a pilot himself, though he might not have flown internationally, knows how important Met information is for flight operations but he is enjoying the illegal monies accruing from their non-payment of the requisite charges to GMet(4 wheel drive, descent accommodation,huge salary and other fringe benefits) that he will overlook this and treat GMet as a business as usual entity providing aeronautical services to make GCAA staff live comfortably. Change is a necessity.

Every person including even dead bodies pay for the use of that airport so if more than 800,000 people travelled to Ghana and each person paid let's say $50(I'm sure it's more than that),minus what the airlines pay for using the airport, minus what domestic travellers pay and one can see that we're heading towards maybe 100million so what is this nonsense of not paying the meteo service. This is absolute rubbish!!

With all the local taxes,import and export fees at the airport, airline landing fees and others, it is a complete shame to KIA for not meeting its financial obligation to another Government Agency. I think under performing Governmet Agencies need to go into public administration.
