If the NPP General Secretary, Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie knew of the painful frustration that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the first petitioner in the on-going Supreme Court (SC) challenge of the 2012 Presidential Election results went through and how he reacted in court on Wednesday May 29, he will never have waved his blue handkerchief when the case was adjourned.

The frustration was so glaring and huge that Akufo-Addo could not contain himself, so he sprang on his feet and verbally attacked his lawyers in court. Nana Akufo-Addo was seen venting his spleen especially on Mr Philip Addison for failing to stop Mr James Quarshie-Idun, the lead counsel of the Electoral Commission (EC) from asking certain questions during his cross-examination of Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, NDC's General Secretary.

Nana Akufo-Addo angrily blurted out, 'Why are you allowing them to take a second bite at the cherry without protesting.' He threw his arms in the air and told them that they were allowing the respondents to have a field day.

The incident happened when the justices of the SC went on a short recess to deliberate on the objection raised by Philip Addison on the line of questioning by Mr Quarshie-Idun during his cross-examination of Asiedu Nketia, who is popularly known as General Mosquito.

Nana Akufo-Addo could not understand why Philip Addison did not raise series of objections to the questions which he Akufo-Addo considered as re-examination by the EC counsel. He told them that it was plain wrong and unacceptable for them not to have raised objections to several of the questions posed by Mr Quarshie-Idun.

The twice defeated flagbearer of the NPP told his lawyers that he was very much disappointed in them for allowing General Mosquito to rehash his answers in order to repair the damage to some of the questions posed to him by Philip Addison.

Nana Akufo-Addo insulted his lawyers for doing a lousy job and his words were captured by several people around. This behaviour by Nana Akufo-Addo clearly demonstrates his feelings as he has witnessed his weak case and the way it has been torn apart by respondents.

If Akufo-Addo is angry with the way the case was going and could therefore question the competence of his own lawyers whilst openly berating them in court, it seems amazing to see Kwadwo Afriyie also known as Sir John waving his handkerchief in front of the court premises when the case was adjourned.

This is a clear example of a confused Sir John who does not even know what is happening around him let alone know the dynamics of the case before the SC. He has made it his habit of throwing a party any time he feels that the case is going the way of the NPP.

Otherwise how can Nana Akufo-Addo be angry with his lawyers and berate them for doing a poor job in court and less than 30 minutes later see Sir John jubilating that the case is going good for the NPP?

This is not to indict whoever won but for how long can we continue dealing with MEDIOCRITY and the lack of application of COMMON SENSE in our daily undertakings as Ghanaians? We NEVER fix anything...always applying band aid (note it's not bandage as Ghanaians are fond of pronouncing it)measures to larger-than-life issues. It's high time some sanity is brought into our electioneering process and hope this petition is going to be a great eye opener to close all the basic loopholes to preserve the integrity of future elections. God bless Ghana!!!

It is sad to hear from the one who was entrusted to ensure a fair play admitting that whole game was play under error, which he foreseen even before the kick off.
Dr. Returning Officer, the issue is not about the apology of your errors, it is about the errors you knew before hand but failed to connect the dots, which led to irregularities of the election and with doubtful results. This is the question before the court but not your fake apology for the harm you have caused the nation

They failed to accept defeat and tried to use fictitious means to impose their candidates on the other 8 regions. They relied on a clueless PhD holder with a BoG experience but was he eventually educated by the palm-wine tapper with Rural Bank experience (obviously he lacked vocabs seriously). If they win elections then it is called a free and fair election but if they lose then the election has been rigged. The faces of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd petitioners are clearly showing that Akufo Addo will NEVER be president in his life. Awwwww! SKIN PAIN! (Iff) If, and only if the NPP wants to win an election, they should follow the following steps:
1. Campaign and stop propaganda and personal attacks
2. Use reasonable an civilized people for communication
3. Get over the tribalism and name calling and remember that all Ghanaians are equal and are also human beings
4. They should also not assume that all the people who attend their rallies will vote for them
5. Serial callers and campaign songs don’t bring votes (although they have very nice campaign songs like, na na na na na is a winner ooo, is born to succeed oh, he’s a winner). They should edit the song for the next NPP flag bearer.

It is wholly unacceptable to me to attempt to 'trivialise' errors or mistakes which occurred.

I am afraid the EC should shoulder a heavy blame for such lapses. They have been involved in this process for 20 years now and should by now have had a 'pool' of people who have been doing the job and who should be trained and re-trained to ensure that 'mistakes' are kept at the barest minimum if at all.

This explanation is disappointing and I hope counsel for petitioners will explore this statement further if we are to learn any lasting lessons from this case.

This is unfortunate and unacceptable. Then the declaration must be withdrawn and errors cancelled. Ghana is governed by the rule of law and elections are governed by the rule of law. Please, JUSTICES, be very objective in this regard as we pray for mother Ghana.
