It is only Africans whose senses of self-respect and dignity has been destroyed by the unending evil of white people (Europeans) who could have lived or worked in that house of horrors. Even when alternatives were made available, these empty good for nothing Ghanaian leaders refused to leave that place.

I normally dont like comparing situations in our part of the world to that of others but in this case I will make an exception and ask the rhetorical question, can we begin to imagine German public officials living or working in the concentration camp of Auschwitz or any of the others?

Even white people with all their known heartlessness and insensitivity to human beings would not comport themselves in such a gruesome manner. So what is it that they must have done to us during the 500 years that they reduced us to the same level as their farm animals?

These are some of the lingering ills of the slave period and colonialism that we have not recovered from. This also shows quite clearly that we need to purify, purge and sublimate ourselves from the stigma and evil ways of Caucasian ills that has infected us and which has added another complication to our own difficulties

Making stuff is not the only way to live and learning from others is not the preserve of blacks. Indeed the white man has acquired a lot of knowledge from blacks and even animals, but to under estimate your potentials is an insult to your Maker or whatever you believe in. Under estimate them at your own peril. We live in abundance compared to them and it is only when we appreciate what we have, only then can we be able to release the tenant in us. Keep your defeatist attitude because even the white man has ignorant people like you among them and yet they succeed.

I agree with the two earlier comments that we need to move on from this slave relics and build a great future that will inspire our children instead of us continuously holding on to our horrible past. The Independence Square and Nkrumah's mausoleum can be moved inland as the sea reaches them.

I am not saying we completely allow the sea erosion but spending money to save that castle is insane. We can regrow coconuts to slow the progress of the erosion and hope the tide changes with time. The movement of the earth on its axis has a major role in erosion. The melting of the North and South poles are also contributory factors which are behind Ghana's control.

What we can do with our resources is to stop deforestation and desertification which we can manage and yet, pose a serious threat to our future.

I felt very sad when the Akwamu hene recently asked the government to name the Christenburg castle after their ancestor who once fought and seized it. This is one of the simple reasons why I will be happy when it is gone, just to keep the mind of our people on the future and not the past. Don't get me wrong, I am a student of history and love history, but too often our people hang on to history like food instead of just letting it to guide their paths. God Bless Ghana.

I was interested in seeing the comments to find out what rejoinders to this article were. I fully expected to find a lively debate on what the best solutions could be-sandbags, walls or other barriers or just allowing mother nature to take her course and preparing for the inevitable. Instead I find the usual personal insults and attacks that are so unproductive and don't help us to advance as a nation. We are not mere tribes or individuals - we are all citizens of one country. Let's be respectful and make thoughtful discourse instead of these petty squabbles!
