  When Ghana wakes up and puts an end to these so called masons making cement blocks on location without inspection, without performing slump test on the cement, immediate improvement will be seen. Blocks made of just sand and cement without an aggregate such as lime stone, lack of sufficient water makes for an unsafe block. Proper building inspections, safety measures, use of a code such as the Boga Building Code will solve this problem for the most part. There are such things in life that you just cannot afford to short cut.

  I think that what people need more than anything else in this country is some lashing by cane and not education. The superficial education we have been exposed to, has proved to be largely ineffective, useless, counter-productive and a monumental waste of money and resources.

  Accra need to be safe from so many things and I believe the current Mayor is tired and cannot move the city and the general people of Accra to the next level.

Until the day Mayors are elected into office, we will continue to have these mentally retarded types imposed upon us to run our cities down into more backward conditions.
  
  All our govts come in and look at the most desperate ass-lickers amongst their midst and appoint them as Mayors and District Chief Executives only with the aim of using them to extort monies and steal land at the district level for the benefit of the Party and senior Party members.
  
  Look at the pathetic list of buffoons who have in the past and present, been appointed to manage Accra for instance? Oko Vanderpuije, Agyiri Blankson, ET Mensah, Amarteifio, etc. What did they achieve, apart from instant wealth for themselves and the further degradation of the once classic infrastructural layout of the capital city of Accra?

  There are plenty of such edifices built around 17-something in that area and because Ghanains do not know maintenance, it is no wonder that our older buildings are collapsing.

  Meanwhile newer house are constructed with 90% sand and 10% cement and null iron rods. Is it surprising that they collapse when a swarm of butterflies move above them ( the houses ) ?

  The Ministry of Works and Housing should come out with a standards or a uniform building codes in all Residential Housing sectors across the cuntry.The earlier the regulations the better.
