  Let's go back to "Payment by Results." This is only how teachers would work hard to justify holding onto their positions, and, of course, to justify promotions and pay increases.Students, would, likewise, need to study very hard in order to go forward and to succeed. They would learn the ethic of "hard work," and, their parents would appreciate why they must pay for their wards education. Ghana stands to benefit, when everyone works hard.

  Let's give the schools back to the religious institutions. There was total discipline across the board in the olden days. These days, the problem is, there is corruption everywhere. The GES is corrupt, the ministry of education is corrupt. Everyone is interested in their own pockets. Head teachers/masters are squandering school fees and other grants. The bursars are a different story altogether. Do not talk about the auditors. PLEASE, LET THE RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS RUN OUR SCHOOLS LIKE THEY DID BEFORE.

  Anunmle School is an elementary (now JSS) group of Schools originally built (1946) to serve the local workers of Achimota School. Master Thompson, one of its early Head Teachers (and other members of his staff e.g. Mr Amuzu, also a product of the school) ensured strict discipline, a dress code (which was obeyed by all teachers and pupils alike) and attention to classroom detail. It worked, and Anunmle is probably one of the most successful "elementary Schools" in Accra outside the "elite, reserved schools of the time e.g. Achimota Primary, Morning Star, Christ the King etc).
  
  Over the years (and without the likes of such strict and disciplined leaders), like many other schools, standards have eroded and it is sad to see where such schools are today!!! Among others, Kofi Kportofie (NADMO head), Victor Brock, "Bishop" Kuranchie Ankrah and myself are products of Anunmle school.
  
  Prof. Addei is absolutely right. Our Schools can be turned around with a new code of discipline and sense of purpose, working with and through PTA's setting up school boards of governors involving community and renewing the teachers' pledge to service. Whilst this is going on and teachers needing re-training are identified, remuneration and other benefits for teachers MUST be addressed by government to make teaching at this core fundamental level both enjoyable and productive. Yes, It can be done and within one year too.

  The headteacher must be promoted or otherwise based on the perfoRmance of his pupil at the BECE. Rural teachers enjoy so much leverage of the profession by using and abusing pupil.They used them on their farms during school hours making it difficult to inject discipline into the Pupil. The ACTION of perpetrators and the IN-ACTIONS of those who suppose to stop crime are the reasons for failures in general.Supervision is so weak in the GES.

  Ghana mps must consider the youth future all the time reason is poor once have no future for their life so leaders should sacrifice for the poor once and youth, oh leaders should learn from our own KOFI ANNAN.
