Some of these students are matured and married. Many of my students at a training college I taught were older than me or about my age. I remember one one of them called me MY NEPHEW. What do we expect them to do with their husbands? Birth control methods fail at times. Do the authorities want them to abort the pregnancies? Some of these laws are antiquated and must be changed. Are the colleges convents to train nurses. Ask those at the GES how many boyfriends and girls they have.

In addition to the fact that Training College students are considered matured and some are married with children, the GES rule is discriminatory against women and unconstitutional. It is only women who become pregnant and therefore the rule is direct sex discrimination. Ghana's 1992 Constitution does not allow discrimination on the basis of sex (among others). The rule is irrational and should be removed immediately.

It's sad that a woman Principal is one enforcing this rule against her fellow women. The rule was most likely made by men to be enforced against women. Then finally, the unfortunate women who find themselves in this situation were also made pregnant by men. What a tragedy.

This rule was meant for secondary school girls and as a way of instilling discipline in secondary schools and not for matured women.

What is the ministry in charge of Gender doing upon all the noise we are making that we have a ministry to deal with such social issues?

Somebody should let that woman and her likes know that even secondary school students cannot be prevented from writing their exams because of pregnancy let alone training college students who are considered students of tertiary institutions like the universities and others.
If that woman does not know her institution has been upgraded and no more like what it was in 1998 then she does not deserve to be the head of that school.

This is a shame on us.

Training colleges are classified as tertiary institutions and its students are considered mature. They have every right as adults to determine their future including the choice to have an education concurrently with raising families. If they have been allowed to continue their education after getting pregnant, then common sense dictates that they be allowed to complete. The choice to take their exams will depend on their condition and should be left to the pregnant women themselves to decide if they want to take the exams. Let's stop the patronizing attitudes and start treating our adult students with respect and dignity. Let us leave certain choices to them, they are very capable of deciding what is good for them. GES needs to reform.

To think that a woman is the one trying to enforce this law that is obviously inimical to the very existence of women, is another matter all together. If indeed this law really exists, then it is obsolete, and must be sent where it belongs-in the archives. It is no longer useful to our time. So, madam principal, please come again.

The law is there, and it is supposed or expected to work for the goodness of those involved. Untill the law is reviewed, it has to be applied to support what it's meant for.

It is because you Ghanaians do not have respect for law, you always find yourselves in the limbo of confusion with whatever you do. Please it is time to put to an end your stupidity over things of funny arguments when you are aware of what the law says.''It is said that happy are the people who obey the law''. Do you need anything more that this? Change your stupid minds in Ghana so that this nation can move forward.

All developed nations work with laws, and that is why they are where they are. What you only know is to go and borrow from them for your projects, and even later you remain at the same level because you fail to follow the law of guidance in every thing that involve people.

Change your minds of not upholding laws and rules, and seek wisdom and knowledge so that the future will be bright for you and your children. Kwame Nkrumah worked with law and went far with developments within a shortest possible time. Today many call his name, it is because of what he achieved for the nation, and in reality it is the aplication of the law.

A good example of the failure of law can be seen from the Nungua -Tesie Kofi Annan road which Nkrumah compensated the people affected. After Nkrumah was over throwned no responsible leader has been able to expand that major road till today, and there is unbearable trafic jams there always. Why is it so ? It is because the law does not work, and ofcourse that is why we can not develop and we have turn it into accusing ourselves every day without realising where the real problem lies. It is our failure to give the law chance to work.

If the law is there, why are JHS and SHS students who become pregnant allowed to write their exams? This is common sense but not common to all like you. Use reason. Where in the Developed countries are students not allowed in school or to write exams because they are pregnant?
In the USA, some counties have even come out with programs where SHS students who give birth while in school are allowed to go to school with their kids with their babies and provisions have been made for caretakers to take care of the babies while their teenage mothers attend classes. This is to prevent dangerous abortions and student drop out from schools.
Let me now educate you that Training colleges are now Tertiary Institutions and students must be treated as such. Can a student taking education in Cape Coast Univ be banned from writing her papers because she became pregnant? Ghana is retrogressing because of some of these archaic and stupid mentalities that we still wrap ourselves in. It is morally irresponsible and stupid, sociologically antiquated, economically destructive and technologically old school for the GES and the Principal to take such an unpopular and useless stand.

This is a shame; this law must be repealed.

It is up to the individual students to decide to take a leave due to reasons known to them.

Why do we still entertain this far-far backward rule to stop our future mothers the opportumity to take exams for subjects they have sacrifice to learn to enable them better their lives and that of their children in the future with such envious teaching profession.

Who say pregnancy is a disease that stops women from praying active roles in the society let alone taking part in academic exams? Instead of putting up a system to motivate them we rather put up disgusting blocking rules to discouraging them.

Are the authorities, people with human heads on here in Ghana?

This is a total violation of human right, because the victims in question are not juveniles. They are adults and are entitled to their private decisions to take a boy friend or get married and be pregnant while schooling and this should have nothing to do with any institution. ironically this institution should have been the one to enlighten and develop the citizens for the benefit of the nation but UNFORTUNANETLY, the enforcement of some of these laws by the institution is enough to let us know how it does not know it`s left from wright. In any case what sensible reason has the ministry of Education got to justify this act? To me, the principal should let them take their exams and the whole country will be behind you and nothing what so ever will happen to you, Madam principal. They are your fellow women.

However, since there was a law or code of conduct whatever they call it existed before the students enrolled, they should have known better or could have requested for exemptions or some thing.I think whatever law they have needs to be re-examined.
