For sustainable socio-economic development Ghana needs ACCOUNTABLE GOVERNANCE not mere promises without action as characterised BY MAHAMA'S "leadership".

Mr Abongo, it is not a matter of who is powerful. Power resides in the hands of the citizenry and not ministers who only exercise that power on behalf of the people. They do so by following institutional structures but not through the abuse of power or position.

First, who appointed the MD? Was it the minister, the Board of the organisation or the President. It is the appointing authority that has the power to fire. So if the MD was not appointed by the minister then she cannot fire him. Even if the minister appointed the MD but the MD reports to a Board directly and not to the minister then the minister has to instruct the Board to fire him but not fire directly.

What you are talking about is abuse of office or position by the minister. This type of abuse of position does not happen in democratic societies. Remember what Obama said when he visited Ghana in 2009? That, Africa needs strong institutions but not strong men/women". What you want is exactly the opposite of what Obama said.

Please, some of you guys should think before talking......The so called Transport minister was wrong...You don't just come on AIR to sack an MD of a state owned enterprise....There is a process to follow..Why can't she deliberate it with the board of directors.....Are we in 1425? If they persist, go and hire Amidu and take them to court. You will win hands down whether you are guilty of the charges against you or not.

But where at all did Mahama pick these useless stragglers from for Gods sakes? I thought this country had gone over such petty nonsense over 30 to 40 years ago. So why on earth was the Board appointed by the govt in the first place? Is it just a case of jobs for the boys?

The worse part of it all is that a whole Minister of state responds to media queries herself by text messages. Incredible! She may not have any respect for herself but at least she should have some respect for her high office. Doesnt the Ministry have a Public Relations Officer? Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Cry beloved country.

It was Kufuor who made me realize that it is generally wrong people who are given these awards on the basis of nepotism. He cheapened the honor and the prestige of being bestowed with national awards.

However I disagree with you strongly on the use of the word 'corporate' as an appendage to describe Ghana. How can you describe the mess we are in as a corporate entity? For me the word corporate evokes a sense of managerial and administrative seriousness competence. Can we as a country, describe ourselves as such?
