It is about time to embrace policies against the over religion in our countries. Christianity and Islam is opium for the folk and it is true. Our forefathers knew it, that is why every one was practising his own. At the end they were righteous and if someone did wrong he or she was charged and punished. The politicians were trustful and all time ready to fight to defend their empire or tribe. Who of these todays politicians a part from Rawlings is ready to die for the nation? Nkrumah, Gaddafi, etc. died for Africa.

He did not leave in 1979 because he was already planning to embark on another coup to enrich himself after the AFRC members have all agreed to leave the administration of the country to civilians.

What he is saying might be the truth but he is a wrong person to deliver such a message since he is corrupt to the core. He accepted 5 million from Mills to keep his mouth shut as a judgement debt settlement and all right thinking people should let him know that we are tired of his sanctimonious pontifications when he has even refused to account for the stewardship of his almost twenty years rule.

A man who refused to account for his time should not demand accountability from anybody. Rawlings deserves to be tied to the stakes and shot like he did to those he accused to be corrupt who were 'pickpockets' compared to him who is an 'armed robber'.

He wanted fame and power as the first African President. Greediness, selfishness and the crave for power and authority cost Ghanaians our wealth. What makes Rawlings a Ghanaian Hero; lashing women in their groins and private parts or killing the rich and stealing their wealth? This JJ sent out troops to The HQ of the Bank of Ghana to sequestrate from the manager, the keys to the Bank's money lockers from but the manager refused, and when the troops went to report to JJ, the manager fled. The Manager was my dad, a hero and a brave man who defended the wealth of Ghana. He also sent out troops to kill a young industrious Rich man but as simple as the man was, they did not recognise him and mistook him for his servant. God through his simplicity and humbleness saved him that day and JJ confiscated all his properties until John Kuffour came and gave them all back to him. Is this the braveness you talking about? Being brave to steal and kill? Come on Oppong, I bet you know better than myself but just face the fact and be conversant with the hidden history and deep sorrows of what Rawlings did. I always say, "we have all sinned and fall short of the Glory of GOD," so I will never judge JJ or call for his head.

It is also not enough to say "a democracy that could not protect the sanctity of its electoral process was engaging in a fraudulent electoral coup d’etat."

I was expecting more on sanctity and electoral coup d'etat. Thinking about it, I read a book entitled "My first Coup D'etat" by the first respondent. Did it say it was electoral ? In Ghana people talk in slurs when they are hard pressed by guilt.

We are faced with leadership idiocy in this country where policians frantically go beserk to use all our money to campaign in order to gain power to govern and yet realise afterwards that there is no money left to govern - all gone like crazy.

What happens thereafter are unending trips to foriegn nations to beg for loans. China, EU, US, World Bank , you name it , suffer ends of such solicitations.
Today Ghana is soaked in inextricable debt clad with ignominy while those we owe still beckon us to come for more. To them it is business of acquisition . To us it NDC vs NPP - who gets what power to do what ? Our national assets are all morgaged against insurmountable debts. And fools formulate policies which keep hurling the country precipitantly headlong.

If a particular corrupt & deceitful African polician deserves punishment, possibly the CAPITAL PUNISHMENT, it is Jerry John Rawlings.

This man goes around Africa pontificating as if he was a Saint when he ruled Ghana for 19 years, eleven of which was a brutal & terrorising military dictatorship during which hundreds of his compatriots were murdered in cold blood and many others simply disappeared. Three high court judges were murdered and their bodies doused in petrol and set ablaze at a military shooting range. He used raw terror as a weapon to cow the whole Ghanaian population and then once no one could raise a voice he and his cronies started a systematic looting of the country's resources.

This is the Jerry Rawlings who is now pontificating & lecturing on corruption. He deliberately allowed a state-owned 5-star hotel situated on several acres of land in a plush neighbourhood of Accra to run down so that the hotel could be razed down. Today on the vast territory where the once proud STAR HOTEL stood are a conglomerate of luxury apartments belonging to the wife of this same man Rawlings.

Rawlings sold a state-owned fruit processing factory (the NSAWAM CANNERY) to his wife and the once very profitable TEMA FOOD COMPLEX CORPORATION to a company (Sankofa) fronting for him.

Under his watch over US$20 million was dished out to an American teenage girl (ostensibly for a rice farm in his native Volta region). The money ended up being shared between the American teenager, Rawlings and his cronies. The rice farm never saw the light of day.

Rawlings siphoned millions if not billions of Ghana's money abroad and lodged them in the accounts of trusted friends. These friends were later to be the ones who would pay for his children's education in expensive schools in the UK.

When this greedy Rawlings couldn't get the late Atta-Mills to give him some of the hundreds of millions the NDC govt was sharing from the dubious judgement debt enterprise, he started hounding Atta-Mills till he died.

Rawlings is like an arsonist who starts a fire and then raises the alarm feigning complete innocence. Rawlings in actual fact is on the same leader board as all time African thieves & master looters like Mobutu, Gnassingbe Eyadema, Omar Bongo, Mubarak & co.

If I were him, I will build a leadership center in Ghana and teach people on what he is preaching. With his influence, he can lobby the parliament to make sure that they do just what he was talking about. Being a good leader means that you lead by example. If he can talk about his past, and give examples to things that he was talking about, that would be great. All in all, his advice is wealth taken but it would much much better if he did himself.

A man who refused to account for his time should not demand accountability from anybody. Rawlings deserves to be tied to the stakes and shot like he did to those he accused to be corrupt who were 'pickpockets' compared to him who is an 'armed robber'.

Rawlings is out of date in ghana politics, the who thought education should be and end at the age of 18 years, that was the age he knew he did have a father, and that is why he join our army.
Rawlings didnt go to our best secondary school in ghana bse he was clever not bse who had now white father. That school was to form a cult of followers but it didnt work and that is why we have Legon Uni now.

Corruption is sinful no mater how you look at it, but it is the definition of the evil act which really broadens or narrows its impact on society. Somehow I know there is some kind of law which prohibits people from using their office or position in government to acquire any personal gains directly or indirectly. This is the conflict of interest which to me taints the castigation of corrupt politicians by Mr J J Rawlings. It is an open secret that under his nose some people were punished by death just for using their official position to take loans from the bank. These are loans they were supposed to pay back. If the definition of corruption id broadened to that extent then I wish Mr Rawlings should stop blowing his horns about corrupt politicians because either himself or his wife fall victim to that level of corruption. As I speak Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings is still fighting for a piece of land supposedly acquired whilst her husband was in office, talk less about several state properties acquired in the name of 31st DWM. Some of these have become personal properties of the Rawlings today: where is Mr Rawlings exonerated from the crime of corruption?

Over 20 years of JJ Rawlings' rule, saw the emergence of extreme human rights abuses, bombing of Makola, greed among soldiers, instant creation of wealth for soldiers, supporters of the cocoa junta, seizure of properties and distribution of state properties like the nsawam cannery and Pepsi cola of Ghana. We even saw mayors of major cities removed for not willing to yield to the whims and caprices of JJ and Konadu over business deal disagreements involving 30% to the ndc "fund". So who is corrupt? How did some soldiers and ndc functionaries amass the millions they now have? Not on their salaries!! How did they manage to educate their children out side the country? Not on their salaries. How did they build elaborate houses and purchase numerous cars? Not on their salaries like we the people. Yet the revolution under JJ and Konadu continued. Now I'm not an NPP ,CPP nor have affiliation or ties to any political party. I am simply one of many who are simply tired of the mutterings of JJ. Every political party after Independence, including the military dictatorships we had, have had functionaries and cohorts steal millions if not billions of dollars through various corrupt schemes from Ghanaians. So why should we listen to someone under whose rule created "THIEVES" and BULLIES???! Ghanaians wake up, and do not let any ruler insult your intelligence. We have a long memory bank. JJ, Shut up and go build us some water wells and latrines in Bolgatanga, Navrongo Yendi and Ekumfi... Enough is enough.
