What didn`t we hear from the good old Prof,of blessed memory, about how his Government was going to clean that rot.But it even got worse before he passed away,and since then it is getting worse each and evryday.
Just ask anyone who by mistake has imported or shipped goods from abroad.
What we lack in Ghana is leadership,our socalled leaders are so corrupt,they become ineffective as soon as they take office.

1. Reducing tariffs or duties u call them will help curb corruption at the port. It will boost import and importers would not be forced to bribe any official knowing that the duties are not all that high. Government on the other hand, will be raking in the same revenue as when the tariffs where high as a result of the boost in import and Inflation can then be control. Let us not forget that the only reason there is corruption at the port is the HIGH TARIFF. In trying to avoid paying too much duties on their goods, the only option available to importers is to bribe the officers; and so they will find ways and means of doing that which will be to bribe the official . No forgery invoice can help them now because customs do not even work with their invoices anymore. Maybe on rear occasions (not sure)

2. The so-called CLEARING AGENT are contributory factor corruption is at its peak at the port. Government should boot these idiots out of the way for importers to clear their goods themselves or come out with a different system that will fast track clearing without the aid of clearing agents. The most annoying about these vacant heads ( so-called clearing agents ) is that, they don’t fuckin know their job, you the importer will end up doing all the work and at the end of the day, they will take huge money from you for all the lies that the duty would have 30 times what you are paying if it wasn’t because of him. He will give the officer peanut , pocket the chunk of the money. I sometimes pity the officers because they don’t make any money----All the money it’s in the hands of the clearing agents since they go between the importer and custom officers and so, the custom officer doesn’t know how much the importer gave him , neither does the importer knows the amount given to the officer. The clearing agents have taken both the importer and custom officer for a ride. If I am a custom office , I would advice government to drive away the clearing agents in the clearing process but I know they will not do for fear of their job. They are safe with the clearing agent even with the peanut that they get from them than to deal with importers.

There is a saying in hausa that “ baraawo baayason asaataashi “ (a thief doesn’t want to be stolen ) . Because our government is so corrupt too, they ‘ve taken 5 eyes looking into one bottle. Let’s face it folks; corruption has been at the Tema port since I was in moms belly and what have they done about it? Have they changed the system? May be they’ve changed it for the worse. They used tax payers money to go and learn how the advance countries are operating their ports only to come back and dump those ideas in bola.Isn’t this what we learn in school that if you are using a formular and it’s not working, you try a different formula? I am not and will not be a big fun of officials at the port but, I sometimes think our government is using the Tema port as a scape goat to cover their side of the corruption. Is Tema Port the only state own company ? what about Tema Oil Refinery and others?
How many of them ( previous and current government appointees) have gone to prison for the judgment debt or for siphoning from government coffers? HELLFIRE CAN’T WAIT TO BURN ALL YAA MDF
