It is also symptomatic of how political party elites in Ghana and Africa worm their way into the confidences of persons perceived as likely to ascend to power positions for purposes of eventual personal economic gain at the expense of the generality of the mass of Party members and the Nation which every President swears to serve under the Constitution...

We need to decentralize power and allow election of town mayors, district and regional Chief executives, to empower local initiative and development. Period. Every ethnic group will benefit but it will be insane to think any group wants to colonize another.
It is individual quest for power. Kufuor did not have the wisdom to decentralize either.

The Public Accounts C'tee of parliament is supposed to look into the Auditor Generals' report. It is not the place of the president to set up arbitrary 'desks' to jail people.

Brazil congressman Natan Donadon jailed for corruption
A Brazilian congressman sentenced to 13 years in jail for corruption has given himself up after two days on the run. Natan Donadon is the first serving congressman to be jailed in Brazil since military rule came to an end in the 1980s. Mr Donadon was convicted three years ago of siphoning off nearly $4m (£2.6m) from the State Assembly in Rondonia, in Brazil's Amazon region. The Supreme Court threw out an appeal on Wednesday and ordered his arrest. "For the first time in Brazilian history a congressman is arrested after losing a final appeal," said analyst Ricardo Roqueti from the Max Weber Centre in the capital, Brasilia. "Other politicians were detained before, but either they were released later or they were struck off before serving a sentence," said Mr Roqueti. Congress has begun proceedings to expel Mr Donadon, who on Thursday was thrown out of his centrist PMDB party, which is part of the governing coalition, Mr Donadon gave himself up to federal police agents at a bus stop in Brasilia and has now been taken to the Papuda penitentiary. His brother, Marcos Donadon, a politician in the Rondonia State Assembly, has been convicted of the same crime. He was arrested on Wednesday at an airport in Rondonia, reportedly as he attempted to escape to neighbouring Bolivia. 'Heinous crime' The Brazilian Congress has become a focal point for anti-corruption protests Earlier this week, Brazil's Senate approved a proposal that introduces tougher punishment for corruption. According to the proposed bill, which needs to approved by the lower house of Congress, corruption would become a "heinous crime" and those found guilty of it would not be eligible for parole or amnesty. Public anger against corruption and impunity has prompted millions of Brazilians to take to the streets in the past month. The protests began in the city of Sao Paulo when local authorities put up transport fares by 10%. But the demands for the fare hikes to be revoked turned into a nationwide movement, which turned violent in several cities. Protesters have been demanding better public health care, transport and state education. Many complain about the high costs of preparations for next year's football World Cup and the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Huge protests are due to take place on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, where the Brazilian football team face Spain in the final of the Confederations Cup - a dress rehearsal for the 2014 World Cup.

Chinese ex-official at the centre of a sex tape extortion scandal has been jailed for 13 years for accepting bribes.?Lei Zhengfu, formerly a senior official in China's Chongqing district, was sacked from his post after a sex tape featuring him was put online last year. He has also been fined 300,000 yuan ($48,000; £32,000). President Mahama, this is encouraging news. You will not be alone in the fight and if you make your appointees accountable, you would have created a huge name for yourself. Start by cracking down on the party officials who may think they are indispensable and can do any wrong without fear of prosecution and then expand the work. People can call you names but what should you care if you are genuinely fighting corruption? Even the threat of a blackmail from your own friends who may know one or two things about you should not deter you. As president you are untouchable till after your term of Office. By then Ghanaians will have been so endeared to you we can afford to forgive you if you were ever seen to be quilty of an offence. Follow the example of Presiden Xi. Thank you.

According to the Auditor General's report, the theft is going on in the very Ministry of Justice and Attorney General's Department that the President is instructing to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of thievery in the public sector! Does the President expect the thieves to investigate and prosecute themselves?

The last time his predecessor tasked those thieves in that department to investigate a matter and protect the public purse, they ended up doling out gargantuan sums to Woyome - and to themselves - in the name of judgement debt!

In any case, what shows that if and when the current Attorney General starts the investigation and prosecution she will not end up suffering the same fate as the former Attorney General Martin Amidu did when he was sacked from office?

THERE MUST BE FREQUENT AUDIT CHECKS IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE AND ROBUST TIME-TESTED SYSTEMS PUT IN PLACE TO PREVENT CORRUPT PRACTICES.There must be no selective prosecution-both the big 'guns' and the 'small fishes' must be prosecuted.Party affiliation should not exempt any ghanaian from being prosecuted for corruption.Corruption is the number one enemy of Ghana and all available resources should be mustered to combat it.It has been and will continue to be the road-block to Ghana's development.

I have to thank you Mr president, because in the first place if he had not given the go ahead how could we tackle this and get it solved. Many experiences of similar cases of the past were not given this possibility that our sitting president Mahama had offered. Let's call a spade a spade. The auditors over the years have been concealing the corruption in the public offices as a result of bribery.
The Prez. deserves an applause as he is bold to make such statement. If we can stop criticizing based on partisanship but as patriotic Ghanaians I believe it will a long way to help this country and the Government.
