It would appear that those in control of the NDC, for the time being, were bent on excluding other bona fide members of the Party who may wish to lay democratic claims to who becomes the next flag bearer of the Party by excluding them even before the mortal remains of the demised President were interred. It is also symptomatic of how political party elites in Ghana and Africa worm their way into the confidences of persons perceived as likely to ascend to power positions for purposes of eventual personal economic gain at the expense of the generality of the mass of Party members and the Nation which every President swears to serve under the Constitution...

People, please think seriously through about freedom of speech. I am a lawyer nor a student of law. But I seriously think that we are missing one most important criteria about this case. Yes Sammy Awuku and others can be charged with contempt but they have to go through due process of the law and if it proven they can be sanctioned. This is what is called true democracy. The governance of true law and not the law the Supreme Court judges make up themselves. One of these days these Supreme Court judges will ordinary citizens and they could hauled to court for sanctions if they comment on issues like this and the sitting judges on that period will take this perverse rule as a test case to come out with the same judgement without due process. So people, please let the judges take this matter through due process of the law and then that will meet the condition of the process of the law.

The issue is not about stifling free speech. Freee speech should be exercised responsibly so as not to throw this country into chaos. Additionally, is Kwesi Pratt saying that contempt of court should not cover reckless, irresponsible, disrespectful and prejudicial comments? Why are we behaving as if irresponsible and contemptuous speech is a virtue? Even countries like USA and Britain that we are quick to cite as democratic do NOT permit this kind of thing. What the hell is wrong with this country? Didn't the justices warn us time without number about contemptuous utterances in respect of the on-going election petition hearing? Freedom, it is said, goes hand-in-hand with responsibility. Our indiscipline is taking the upper hand of us. Is that the legacy we want to leave our children? Are we suggesting that lawlessness should be applauded?

The law must apply any time it's violated. No politician is above the law. The politicians must be the most respectful of law by giving good example. The politics have ethics and moral. The politics have their special language and that is whay tthe politicians are supposed to have gone through political ans social sciences before engaging in politics.

It's only in Africa that anybody can become a politician without political sciences studies. We should not tell the judges what they need to do and how. They know their profession and they are qualified to do it. So Mr Pratt let the judges do the work they are trained for and paid to do.
