In fact, I did say that I disagreed with the treatment meted out to Awuku. My disagreement with Prof Asare was on powers of the Chief Justice to interfere and overrule the nine Justices as his petition sought to do. I never supported jail term for expressing a view. His demeanor and reaction to the initial annonce from the bench gave him away,and inspite of the charade we witnessed on the part of his defense team, there is no question that he had been briefed that he and his team were going to run circles around Justice Atuguba and his colleagues. And 'real fun' is what they got! It is about time somebody,anybody stood up and demonstrated that law and order exist in this country,and they should be made to work for the betterment of all,but not a select few! In the end even,some of these so-called 'legal luminaries' were of little help;and that is also very important!
That Kwaku Azar,Gabby Otchere-Darko and the rest of them who have encourage this 'foolishness' for far too long, realize that they do not DETERMINE what the law in this country is!!!!
We should also dove our hats off to the panel for acting in unison in demontrating the real resolve of the SC.

The judges are misapplying their powers. Since when did expression of opinion by a journalist become a criminal offence?

The hypocrisy exhibitted by this court is obvious: Mr John Mahama told this court that they HAVE NO CHOICE but affairm his presidency. That statement is not only an attempt to intimidate the court, but also,to disregard the relevance of the case before the court, if you would be objective?

If you agreed with me on Mahama's case, then I'd ask you why the court has not even called the president to order, but others are hauled before the court for questioning ans sentencing? This is the "selective and bias" issue that Sammy Awuku touched.

The judges should rather protect the country and the constitution not their EGO!!

Judges have NO right to curtail our freedom of expression which is enshrined in our constitution. If the actions of these judges are seen by descerning Ghanaians are being curtailling of our freedom of expression, albeit, selectively, naturally, people will resit it by any form deenmed appropriate under our constitution.

We cannot live in a state of fear of expressing our views freely, where it appears writing an opinion piece is subject to the court's approval.

According to him, the procedure for trying his client was questionable. It should have been referred to the Attorney-General who would have had to file a motion and invite a response from his client.

He maintans this view was partly expressed by Justice Dotse, and note his choice of the word partly, during the hearing.
With the benefit of hindsight, the lawyer says he would have approached the case from a different approach. Good for him!

Atta Akyea revealed that an order to appear before the court cannot be made into a trial for contempt. “I never knew that”, he said. So he and his arrogant bunch now understand the fact that they are not the LAW in this country after all. Because, as he readily concedes,if the judges perceived Ken’s statement was already contemptuous, then there was no reason for coming to defend him. So having led this poor sucker to the gallows,listen to what this "ace" lawyer is telling all of us now. And I hope Ken Kuranchie never gets to read all this stuff!

The ultimate of contempt and disrespect was clearly shown here, where even in the chamber, Kuranchie tried to 'take on the judges'. This is sheer arrogance and what we used to call "mugu yaro antics". That is why one of the judges asked if he wanted to be a "hero"!!!

Appearing to be 'brave' and 'stubborn' is sheer foolhardiness and I bet these chaps were quivering int heir boots in front of the judges. They must not tolerate any more nonsense from anyone NDC or NPP. Sammy Awuku should consider himself very lucky indeed, for not suffering a similar fate.

Get it that the Justices are not super humans than the rest of the citizens. Many a times they make a mistake in their rulings and not when they go back to ponder over the rulings than they come back to turn over their own rulings. It takes one man to fight a bad ruling in a case which his/her constitutional right is infringe. I will recommend you to get a book titled "Gideon's Trumpet" authored by Anthony Lewis which one man - named Clarence Earl Gideon took his case to the Supreme Court of USA and have them re think and over turn their own previous ruling.

It is also wrong for the same panel of Justices who were criticized by these gentlemen to be sitting judges in this case. The case should not be at the Supreme Court at all but rather in the lower courts for a different Judge to sit over it. Where are were turning the country to? Are we in the pre-colonial days when kings and chiefs weird absolute power over the people they termed as their subjects? A big shame to the Supreme Court of Ghana. The people should rise up against these wig lords.

What you seem to be saying is that freedom of speech is absolute.That is far from the truth since it is in competition with other rights which society and the courts have have to balance in order to achieve fairness. Otherwise there will be chaos and I hope you are not advocating for that.

In practice therefore the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and that right is commonly subject to limitations.Until we in Ghana begin to realize this hard facts the simmering tragedy beckoning will surely come to pass.

Then they went home safely to eat the supper that their wives had cooked for them. Ken and Atugiba were handcuffed and sent to an undisclosed prison. This evening they will be fed on some food they probably don't like and the may be asked to wear the prison jumper and pants. I nearly wept because Mr. Atugiba had begged profusely. You see, Ken would have made things easy for himself but he allowed his surrounding to deceive. He wanted to behave as if he was at a political rally where he would be applauded. In the end they all left him to his fate. His supporters should go visit him before he is released, please. Let us give these judges so,e respect. They are all we have.

What I am writing here does not mean that I support Mr. Kuranchie. No concern it the due process that he was not rightly give. If he was contemptuous to the sitting Judges, then those judges should have exempted themselves for other supreme court judges to adjudicate his case. That is what is what is called true democratic due process of the law. A precedent has been set with this judgement and one day it will bite the same judges and many others without due process. I pity my people under such a rule of law.

This sentence would serve as example. No citizen is entitled to right to accuse without evidence the people who are in charge to implement law and make sure the state of Ghana is the one of law and order.

I praise the SC and invite them to proceed that way in order to save peace, security and stability of Ghana. The court should never accept to be intimidated by any political party, any civil society or any political activist.May God bless the panel of the justices!

I cannot believe Atta kyea is a lawyer. Even a first year medical student could have advised Kuranche to just apologise profusely. His case was really rotten. We need to inspect law credentials of these NPP legal brains.

It is high the judiciary lay down it,s mark if Ghana is to move forward without any fear or favour. My wish however, would have been to send down Ken Kuranchie for at least 30 days. Well there are rule in society that is designed to keep everybody living in harmony.It means we have judges who have authority when people have disputes. We elect president to lead and direct the country and we have parliament to speak on behalf of citizen in all geographical areas. Freedom and Justice also means you may not disturb the peace by speech or actions.

If you do the police and the state apparatus will take care of you.

I don't want to refer you to the bible, about how God asked the Israelites to appoint judges over themselves to settle their disputes. Unless you want God himself to come and mediate you dispute. If that is what you want then we will leave at that.

If Ken is wrong because the judges say so. Well if there is an appeal you can pursue it. Otherwise NPP is crying for the moon

It is an abuse of power and should be condemned. Democracy survives with tolerance. Some might be painful than others, but we should all learn to tolerate each others view. Period.
You can separate boys from men by how they react under pressure. Mature thinkers are always calm and tolerant, immature grown ups are less tolerant and ready to solve their problems by showing where 'power lies'. Boys always fight. Men always tolerate provocations by boys. Let's be men!

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Are there not other courts to handle these stupid cases? Waste of time! A form of intimidation by the members of SC. This happened during Rawling's rule and it is repeating itself. What did Kuranchie say that is not true of the sitting SC. Ken Kuranchie is the only person with balls between his thighs. Is the nine panel SC judges learning something from what Mr. Kuranchie said? Many poeple have that view. Sentwence all Ghanaians to jail. SHEER INTIMIDATION! LOOK MANY PRESIDENT DID THE SAME BUT DID NOT SUCCEED. What did Nkrumah gain from the detention he placed on people? He died a shameful death in somebody's country. Rawlings has done the same and he is going to reap the results of his actions. Atuguba calm down and listen to what the spirit is saying/telling you!
