The above measures proposed by the government to raise more revenue for the government are welcome especially raising taxes on imported goods[higher import taxes on luxury goods more acceptable] which will not only raise revenue but also protect home industries from unacceptable dumping of foreign goods.I hope the government will go a step further to widen the tax net to rope in more tax payers to increase government revenue.Using not less than 60% of state revenue to pay for salaries of workers certainly calls for urgent measures to increase state revenue.Stringent measures must also be put in place to ensure that import and export revenue leakages are prevented or the government will not achieve the expected revenue target from the implementation of the Customs and Excise bill.

There are a lot of loop wholes in our tax system. And some collection officials are corrupt. Just set a good payment mechanism. Beware of customs, AMA,Postal services,Boarder Post, Telecom Services, just mention a few.

Import duties are already at the highest compared to duties all over the world. If you called yourself a qualified tax expert, you should know by now that there are many small businesses and some large companies that are either invading taxes or never been taxed. I believe this step to increase import taxes again is incompetent, and will put Ghana at the disadvantage as well as making goods more expensive for ordinary Ghanaians. Some advice from unprofessional like me; increase your tax base, and reduce the enormous burden you put on those who are the job creators. Also, if our professional like you can be honest to all Ghanaians, you must tell them that whenever taxes on import duties goes high the cost is always pass on to the consumer.
