Ghana for instance, after 53years of Independence and 43years of becoming a Republic, still relies enormously on aid from China - giving away its natural resources in return as payment for this assistance...in other words Ghanaians are fools from day one of their independence...or never do anything 4 themselves...

We waste too much time talking about pollution created by the Chinese. Why not make it part of the contract we sign with them. We need to learn from the Chinese. One sunny day a Ghana rabbit came out of her hole in the ground to enjoy the fine weather. The day was so nice that she became careless and a Western fox snuck up behind her and caught her.

"I am going to eat you for lunch!", said the Western fox.

"Wait!", replied the Ghana rabbit, "You should at least wait a few days."

"Oh yeah? Why should I wait?"

"Well, I am just finishing my thesis on The Superiority of Rabbits over Western Foxes and Western Wolves."

"Are you crazy? I should eat you right now! Everybody knows that a Western fox will always win over a Ghana rabbit."

"Not really, not according to my research. If you like, you can come into my hole and read it for yourself. If you are not convinced, you can go ahead and have me for lunch."

"You really are crazy!" But since the Western fox was curious and had nothing to lose, it went with the Ghana rabbit. The Western fox never came out.

A few days later the Ghana rabbit was again taking a break from writing and sure enough, a western wolf came out of the bushes and was ready to set upon her.

"Wait!" yelled the Ghana rabbit, "you can't eat me right now."

"And why might that be, my furry appetizer?"

"I am almost finished writing my thesis on The Superiority of Ghana Rabbits over Western Foxes and Western Wolves."

The Western wolf laughed so hard that it almost lost its grip on the Ghana rabbit.

"Maybe I shouldn't eat you. You really are sick...in the head. You might have something contagious."

"Come and read it for yourself. You can eat me afterward if you disagree with my conclusions."
So the Western wolf went down into the Ghana rabbit's hole...and never came out.

The Ghana rabbit finished her thesis and was out celebrating in the local lettuce patch. Another Nigerian rabbit came along and asked, "What's up? You seem very happy."

"Yup, I just finished my thesis."

"Congratulations. What's it about?"

"The Superiority of Ghana Rabbits over Western Foxes and western Wolves."

"Are you sure? That doesn't sound right."

"Oh yes. Come and read it for yourself."

So together they went down into the Ghana rabbit's hole. As they entered, the friend saw the typical graduate student abode, albeit a rather messy one after writing a thesis.

The computer with the controversial work was in one corner. To the right there was a pile of Western fox bones, to the left a pile of western wolf bones. And in the middle was a large, well-fed Chinese lion.

The moral of the story:

The title of your thesis doesn't matter.
The subject doesn't matter.
The research doesn't matter.
All that matters is who your adviser is.

Let us heed President Obama's call for a new partnership with Africa: POWER AFRICA, TRADE AFRICA, that is his message to us, the message of helping us to build our capacity and the message of trade. Let's say goodbye to our Chinese friends. It is time to embrace the west and America again. Our relationship with China as at now is detrimental to us and we stand to lose if we continue to let them exploit us.It is far from a win win relationship. The Chinese never told us to practice socialism or they will impose sanctions on us. The west pushed structural adjustment programmes that totally destroy our manufacturing base and told us to adopt market economy or they will impose sanctions on us. The Chinese never paid one African to overthrow another African.
It is a hidden fact that Chinese workers in Ghana tell their Ghanaian counterparts to embark on strike whenever their pay to up so that the Ghanaian worker will also have pay increase. It is a fact that some years ago Indian engineers in a plastic manufacturing company were deported from Ghana because they told their Ghanaian counterparts to agitate for salary increase because they found out that the wage of the Ghanaian worker was not commensurate with the work that he or she does. Which European or U.S. worker in Ghana sees a Ghanaian as his or her comrade. Chinese build the East African Railway and I am not sure if that railway is named after the Chinese President.
The fact is that the U.S. and her NATO allies have Chinese construction companies working in their country. They continue to rely on China for loans and even moved some of their production sectors to China. So from the fact above how come that they are telling us not to have anything to do with China.
We wrote the other time that though TOYOTA has been in this country for a long time she together with other automobile companies to not even mold spare parts in Ghana.

Ghanaian and foreign contractors will of course hate the Chinese, because the Chinese often charge less, but work more and produce solid and beautiful infrastructure.If Ghana wants to develop quickly, then we should stop our negative attitudes towards the Chinese.
My personal experience tells me this. I have worked for almost ten years with them and they are good, diligent, humble, kindhearted, and very sociable almost like Africans.
You should stop hating them, after all, we have been with the West for so many years and our development has been very sluggish.

I made a similar comment to the Ministries of Mineral Resources and Trade to negotiate better terms and conditions under which some Chinese with special skills and capital could stay: That technology transfer, net profit sharing, proper environmental controls and crop farming could all be carefully incorporated in the arrangement and finally, that the Gov't of Ghana and the Chinese counterpart to build gold refinery in Ghana so Ghana's gold would be refined at home.
Is it too late to re-open negotiations?

There is every truth in it because somehow our leaders think of themselves first before the nation or they do not understand the small prints of agreements before signing them.In other words Africans do not know or understand how to drive a hard bargain.We live in a world where man eats man and if you do not understand or any of these concepts then you are doomed.I praise the professor for being so bold to tell Africans and their leaders that they are enept when it comes to negotiations about what is theirs by right,instead they give it away. This should be food for thoughtfor those in charge of our destiny.

China needs Africa and vice versa. However the level of need is laced with exploitative measures. Nothing new since the Westerners did the same thin, So Africa quietly lays down and is being exploited and raped by people claiming to have good intentions. Really? So we get the National Theatre which is physically imposing but structurally deficient. Just go inside the building and check out the massive cracks. So is this a white elephant as the Chinese have done in other nations in Africa? What do we get in return? Rotten frozen chicken flooding our market places and, counterfeit tooth paste that causes all kinds of alleges when used, inferior quality toys for kids loaded with lead that is deforming and killing our children, fake pharmaceuticals that is killing us than healing us, inferior quality generators, batteries that explode when put in cars, with a very short lifespan, electrical components and plumbing parts that causes water leaks and fires to buildings and houses. The list goes on. Everybody from Algeria to Pretoria iks sick and tired of inferior quality Chinese products. So who is using whom? Not to mention the influx of ec convicts from China to African countries. In Ghana they engage and specialize in destroying our environment and upsetting the ecological balance of our country,. Not to mention the pollution of our streams and rivers through galamsey operations. So who is Protecting "WE THE PEOPLE?. Is our government so weak and ineffective and has been reduced to a master slave relationship with China?. No it is not an NDC issue. This sickness started with PNDC through all the past governments to present. So what I am saying is that both the NPP and all of our leadership must share the shame and blame. We should Never Sell our souls to these no good Chinese, Pakistanis, Russians etc., they are all the same. So who the hell made this China man an expert on Ghana?
Mahama, Kuffuor, Jerry Rawlings we are tired of being taken for granted and for fools in the paradise, we call Ghana. There is a new generation of Ghanaians coming up that would be the new face of Africa, less tolerant of this business as usual attitude of our current leadership and more pro Ghana and pro "The betterment of Ghana for all Ghanaians not some.

Thank you for providing the opportunity for me to express my view. My friend sent me the summary of my talk which appeared in Ghanaian newspaper, I found some are incorrect.
1. My school is not "the School of International and Strategic Studies of the Peking University", "strategic" is extra.
2. “Anshan Li blamed the impression on the Western Media who according to him are creating ‘a misunderstanding about Foreign China Africa Corporation (FOCA) which in itself originated from the Africans’. ”There is no "Foreign China Africa Corporation (FOCA)", here I actually mean FOCAC (Forum on China-Africa Cooperation).
3. "It therefore had to offer all its technological know-how to Japan ‘at very low prices’ to get what it wanted because ‘it did not have money to pay’. This to him paid off at the end of the day." This is totally wrong. What I said is in the early reform period, China had to provide cheap natural resource to Japan (and other western countries) in exchange of investment and technology which we needed badly at the time. Since both got what it wants, I consider this as win-win situation.
4. "avoid ‘copying’ the western models" I also mentioned to avoid copying Chinese model.
5. The African countries which have no relations with China are wrong, Nigeria should not be included. It has relations with China.

Of course this is not your fault, my brother. It is the fault of the newspaper.
However, I found Akwasi's presentation is listed. I enclose my presentation here as attachment and hope you can put it in the archives.
