  Social protection is concerned with preventing, managing, and overcoming situations that adversely affect people’s well being.
  
  Various literature also present social protection as consisting of policies and programs designed to reduce poverty and vulnerability by promoting efficient labor markets, diminishing people's exposure to risks, and enhancing their capacity to manage economic and social risks, such as unemployment, exclusion, sickness, disability and old age.
  
  Most common types of social protection include labor market interventions which are policies and programs designed to promote employment, the efficient operation of labor markets and the protection of workers.
  
  Social Insurance also mitigates risks associated with unemployment, ill health, disability, work-related injury and old age, such as health insurance or unemployment insurance.
  
  Social Assistance is when resources, either cash or in-kind, are transferred to vulnerable individuals or households with no other means of adequate support, including single mothers, the homeless, or the physically or mentally challenged.
  
  While Ghana seeks to advance the social protection agenda of labour market intervention, social insurance and social assistance of which we commend government for, there is also the need to ensure that the money is well accounted for. We want to see evidence that the money was given to real victims as registered by NADMO, and that there is a clear criteria for the award of the funds. As the case is presented now, if the GHC2M is shared equally among the 4,500 estimated victims, each is expected to get GH444.44 Ghana Cedis. Do we have a list of these reflecting with market queens and same copies coming from NADMO. On what criteria does a victim gets more or less than GHC444.44? These are questions that need to be clarified to make this social assistance worth the money and effort.

  What in the world is a Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection?Why waste money to create such a Ministry,huh?What's the police for?Where are the parents who bore these children?The government claims it's running out of money, yet it comes up with taxpayers money of two million to donate free to fire victims who had no business sense to buy insurance?
  Our government finds ways to waste monies by taking actions that deplete our resources and then turn around and place ridiculous taxes on the productive citizenry.Revenue collection has been a problem from time in memorial and instead of taking advantage of cutting edge technology to help in this regard our government rather wastes money on outrageous things like advancing monies for MPs to find accommodations,buy expensive cars for use of Ministers,indemnifying fire victims,sponsoring religious groups to travel to Mecca,creating stupid Ministries to satisfy party apparatchiks and all sorts of wasteful undertakings on the backs of hard working Ghanaians. But what can one expect from an avowed Socialist leader at this day and age when emerging democracies are running away from Socialist dogma and embracing free market growth policies to elevate many of their citizenry from abject poverty.
  Our problem is not the lack of money.It's our inability,as a nation, to collect judiciously what is due the government and prioritizing usage of same towards projects that would effect economic growth and stability.

  Giving them out as loans will help replenish the fund for future assistance to the needy. This is a weak government that do things just to artificially appease to the populace. Under what criteria is the government going to distribute this free money?
