Blame this on the government of the day. The last year of Rawlings/NDC reign, the cedi plummeted to it's lowest, then it was near 2 cedis to a dollar. When Kuffuor was first elected as President the cedi against the dollar dropped from 1.89 and stabilized at 1.56 Ghana cedi to a dollar for more than 3 years 6
When the old Cedi got changed, and brought forth the New Ghana Cedi, the rate against the US dollar stood shoulder to shoulder. The Ghana Cedi was one to one against the U.S. dollar.
The rate climbed and stabilized at 1.5 - 1.56 new Ghana to the US dollar for the last year of Kuffuor's Presidency.Then NDC lead by Atta Mills took over the leadership.

Oman Ghana must understand the fact that the low rate of the Cedi against the US dollar means our economy has no stability. This further means no serious business can survive to hire more employees and plan any formidable future plans. Virtually every serious business transaction in Ghana is made in connecting to the US dollar; from the sale of cars to renting apartment and to leasing a store front. Sadly to say, we are a nation that imports almost 90% of our domestic commodities including tooth picks and dog chains.
I have come to conclude that NDC administration is not up to the task.
The current vice President pathetically stated categorically that a weakened Ghana cedi against the US dollar serves better for our economy. How sad for a guy who was a governor of Bank of Ghana.
Not until Ghanaians vote for competent and wiser intellectuals, our economical situation will ever decline and the average Ghanaian will continue to suffer.
Let me remind you the reader that, the JJ's and all the ministers in Ghana, are paying average of $75.000.00 to educating their children abroad.
I always write my piece of mind that, NDC, or NPP, with no political party exceptions, when it come to corruption. All Political parties in Ghana are corrupt. But when it comes to stabilizing the international dollar against the Ghana Cedi, NDC has proven to be useless compared to NPP administration. The facts speaks for itself as I written earlier.

This is basic economic principle (generalizing common sense). I must also say that these journalists or reporters need to increase they knowledgeable on these issues before reporting. They always make the economic and financial reports complex when indeed they are so simple.

Since before independence we have been plagued by all sorts of ruthless , vicious and willfully authoritative govts that all have one thing in common , denying the right of free speech and proper analysis of the motives and agendas they seek to keep hidden . Most of these govts were led by people who didnt belong to the majority but rather minority tribes and very marginal political clans . starting with nkrumah who is praised to high heaven but this same oligarchy , he st in motion a climate of fierce political antagonism whereby moderate minds of a liberal persuasion had no business in participating as only the radicals could stand the heat .The MOTIVE , be able to spend without consensus or agreement the wealth of the nation ie in today's jargon chop Ghana money some . This style and system of government was perfected by kwasea rawlings and today we have pepeni whose agenda is finalse the colonization of the majority , the Akans with the assistance of the homicidal ayigbe and the idiot pepefuo . they now use the institution called the supreme court to gag all free thinking individuals so the climate is set to enslave and now steal the oil and gas. they tell us nkrumah was so good so i say to them we hope ghana breaks up and their first presidents are just like him. when we secede we give them all the gold reserves in Switzerland and pay them another 20 billion on top so these ewes and pepefuo are rich and let their nkrumah come and spend that money in 2 years and leave them in debt for 2000 years , that is our revenge . hopefully their first nkrumah presidents are just as manipulative and propagandists so a greater part of that money is used to secure the unity of the universe as thats a very good thing not only african or nigger unity . the rest of the money we graciously leave them should be used in establishing useless unsustainable businesses that only feed other economies and drain their own . yes we wish them well as they have to us for over 60 years . we in the meantime Akans will build a nation truly worthy of our capabilities and potentials with a minimum wage of not less than 10,000 dollars so our beers in our bars are at least 100 dollars so these pepefuo and ayigbe idiots can not afford to visit us just like the Japanese do to their ndc idols the Chinese , long live the republic of Akan

By the end of the year, the cedi may reach 1.99 per dollar, he said. The currency has declined 6.6 percent this year, the fifth-worst among 24 African currencies tracked by Bloomberg.

Ghana’s trade deficit worsened to $334.6 million in the first quarter from near zero a year earlier, as the world’s second-biggest cocoa grower and Africa’s second-largest gold producer saw exports drop 7.3 percent, the central bank said May 22. The current account, the broadest measure of trade in goods and services, widened to a deficit of $1.1 billion in the first three months from $986.6 million a year before, the Bank of Ghana said.

Nothing seems to work right in Ghana these days. It is even sad to conclude that if there is a change of government the trend will continue because there will be no money left to govern. We are in the most pitiful turn in history as we offer reasons for posterity to measure or condemn our failure against extraordinary potentialities and natural legacies - a rare chance to build a paradise wasted and abused.

We have natural resources - gold, diamond, oil, gas, cocoa,bauxite,iron- all in comparable quantities. We have trained minds to manage and produce - all ready and poised to work. It beats the good minds !

Much of these reasons are surely attributed to ignorance and stiff unwillingness to admit and amend shortfalls. We stride with our heads so lifted up like zombies who fail to look down to sidestep the trenches of life .

We ask for loans against our inability to repay : we spend money like crazy with little consideration for pressing future needs : we steal and misuse public funds over which we are entrusted to preserve : we do not plan our projects well leaving them senselessly incomplete. Above all, we do all these things with impunity.

The absence of good stewardship eludes the minds of Ghanaian voters at the voting boothes.

Unless we sacrifice to offer ourselves chances for change we are bound to slide into a more adverse reality characterised by disaster and unamendable failure.

Historically its been clearly depicts that the NDC and its leadership has no medicine to our socio-political and economic woes and specifically our foreign exchange.Their founder Rawlings,Mills and the current president are purely locally trained,backward,and inefficient that common micro and macro economics can not be adopted and implemented by them.To add more injuries to our economic woes,these leaders go on to appoint their cronnies who have no knowledge in economics and the global market.A shining example is the appointment of HARUNA IDRISU as a trade and industry minister.Haruna majourd in social work and went to Ghana law to study law.He is purely locally trained from Tamale to Accra and has no knowledge in economics and commerce.These terrible appointments are all over the NDC high level work force and it is really really bad for our economy.NKRUMAH AND KUFFOUR applied the micro and macro economic principles,used the right ministers on the field and applied their western/Ghanaian rich education to rule.Under their their leadership Ghana saw a tremendous improvements in our economy let be real.MAHAMAH MY ADVICE TO YOU IS IF DON,T DEVIATE FROM RAWLINGN,S BUGABUGA TYPE OF RULING,THERE IS NO WAY WE CAN DEVELOP UNDER YOUR LEADERSHIP.
