Nothing can save VALCO from collapse if we continue to import alumina and other raw materials! Our useless Politicians are either not aware of or have forgotten about the fact that alumina (the basic raw material for aluminium production) is produced from bauxite. We sell our bauxite at ridiculously low price to China and the rest, only for it to be processed into alumina and sold back to us at the World market price! Are we just stupid or we are too lazy to use our brains? May I remind the powers-that- be that producing alumina from bauxite will create jobs for the jobless lot?

Why would they want to do that? It is better for them to sell low to the Chinese, then buy it back at a higher price to bring it back into Ghana. That way they can "chop" it on Ghana's turf because nobody is paying attention.

I agree with Dr. Wereko-Brobbey. In addition we must trim down the number of intermediaries in the Energy sector. VALCO must understand that we deserve an increase in revenue accruing from their usage of our energy to match the vicissitude of the changing Market.

We have for far too long subsidized their consumption of Energy as a consequence of our coerced submission to swallow the initial lopsided contract that paved way for the Akosombo Dam project. By now VALCO has made multi-fold profit from that deal. But we are yet to really break even, fiscally.

It is time for the partners to ease up their grip on us to allow us gain a little more to develop our Country, too.

Long live Ghana!!!

VALCO should be seriously looking at building their own Power generating plant and detach themselves from the old Pre-Akosombo agreement which DAY-IN-&-DAY-OUT compels them to OPEN & CLOSE the company, to the great discomfort of the workers and other companies who depend on them for RAW material supply. Henceforth, it must be a matter of "alia jakta est" to operate Economically.

The government of Ghana should not hesitate to ignore such bogus reports which only Compounds our predicament at the end of the day.There would be additional pressure on our Scares foreign Currency if VALCO is closed and therefore manufacturers needed to import ingots.
Workers would be declared redundant etc etc. Please ignore the reports.
