As for Kuffuor, the least we talk about him the better. He was such a Thief in leadership.

But I disagree with Sekou, Mahama is doing very well. He has fire in his belly for driving those Chinese second time slave mentalist away.

Then he is getting hard on corruption and thievery. It takes a great leadership to do that so Mahama is doing well. Lets help him in stead of using the occassion to gain cheap points.

These men and many others in Ghana are DAMN Reckless, Selfish, Ignorant, Non-economical with their words, Arrogant, Foolish, Stupid and driving on Nation Wrecking Highway with their comments in Ghana.

What the heck do they get out of
these unguarded tongue-lashing and arsenic comments about leaders? Does Sekou think that his father, Kofi Nwea's only son, Kwame Nkrumah, was cut for the presidency, therefore [he] Sekou is also cut for that position but not Mahama nor Mills nor Amissah Atta??

For Tarzan, because his ass was excluded from the INNER LOOP of those preparing for the Supreme Court law suit, he thinks he has been slighted, thus not only excluding him, but also not seeking his advice on the law suit. Therefore, as a spoilt little child, he had to throw up some tantrums, to get attention, by disowning and insulting those NPP members who are now in court. But, TARZAN, that’s called ENVY & JEALOUSY and I think your sorrowful ass should have been thrown completely out of the NPP. The NDC should also be advised that at some point, this Sekou man should be STOPPED and even kicked out of the NDC.

Just because he is the son of the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah does not give him a mantle of wisdom unknown to the rest of us. He is rather a disgrace to his father, and not fit to be called a son of Ghana either.

The man Mahama and his team are display group incompetence at every level of the Ghnanian society. The are worsening things - no electricity (dumso dumso), no water, reduced and dwindling health service, increased corruption across the board in all the ministries, no fiscal discipline due to the corrupt nature of Mahama himself and his team. What again do we need to admit that this Mahama man like his predecessor Atta Mills are not presidential and leadership materials?

I disagree with you. Leaders are not born anywhere. They are nurtured by circumstances, training and experiences to evolve into leaders. Even in monarchies, the heirs to the throne must be groomed to succeed. Even that, some turn out as very poor leaders or monarchs, royal blood notwithstanding.

Sekou has a point though. Mahama hasn't shown much drive as President yet, as he displayed as Vice. The ongoing suit against his election may be having a dampening effect on him. Certain decisions he has taken so far are just pathetic. As for me, the decision to appoint the earlier convicted impostor to the Anlo Awoamezi throne, Patrick Agboba, still under trial at an Accra Fast Track Court for another case of contempt, to the Council of State marked him out as someone under the influence of some malevolent advisers misleading him.

Then deciding to agree with those who wanted him to open a defence in the election petition case, instead of pleading immunity as a sitting President and challenging the constitutionality of the C1 that makes such a suit possible, clearly shows that he lacks the gumption to be bold and decisive as the President. The SC would have ruled in his favour and strike him from the suit, allowing the NDC to defend him with their joinder, instead of the silly, time-wasting duplication and pathetic show-boating going on.

I'll give him another year before I write him off though. He has enough time to redeem himself.

Looking at the Ghanaian scene, I have been writing in my mind an article titled tentatively: Can These People Develop Us?

My conclusion to the article is that practically all the so-called Ghanaian elite are themselves not mentally or cognitively developed to the level of their Euro-American and Asian counterparts in order to develop anybody else beyond their own superstition induced mediocre level; from their feudal or low class and rural origins! They are just as backward as the ordinary people with hardly any education! Mahama is simply just one of such elite without the essential values of the elite of the civilised world.

I can't at the moment think of anyone on the scene in Ghana close to the calibre of Nkrumah who fits the image of a modern leader comparable to any in the West or East.

As for JJ, the least said the better. He was good as junta leader but not as a civilian leader. He doesn't have any vision or ideas of his own, except what he was fed by those around him, ending up being the best pupil of the Terrible Twins, the World Bank and the IMF. May we be saved from such a leader again!

Unfortunately, we on the other hand have believed that leaders are born like that of chieftaincy, so we keep on accepting any clueless leaders that the parties impose on us. The NPP believe that you have to wait for your turn to be a leader and the NDC believe that once you become a VeeP, you are the next to rule. So may God forbid that Amissah becomes the next President of the Nation.

You are again right about Ghana. I sometimes think I will not see a better- not a great leader- in my lifetime for my country. Who else? Sir John, Ursula or Akyea Mensah from NPP or Ablakwa, Segbefia or Ayariga from NDC? Why are we so cursed with leadership in our country? And since we have not had a great leader for him to be studied or for him to train anyone...

Fact about Mahama is this, firstly, he was deep in corruption. Secondly, he was morally corrupt. Thirdly, he was "made" a leader by the kingmakers in his party and therefore has been silenced by those kingmakers. He can't have any balls to deal with anything in his party, let alone things happening in Ghana. So Sekou is right, and so giving him more than one year will not change anything. Once a wimp, always a wimp.

The genes of the parents also play a certain role, because the same situation in which two children are born can turn the children in an opposite direction.

Some people were born into royal families and the formal training and orderliness of affairs help develop and groom them to their future status as a leaders, others fail in the same circumstances all depending on the child's ability to code or grasp information.

Others were born in poverty and hardship, and their attempt to fight for survival and to understanding why life is what it is, toughens them and imbue in them certain aggressiveness and keen appetite for learning and information gathering. Hardship grooms them, it makes them want to do more to free humanity from burden, it prepares them for strong leadership when they are exposed with leadership opportunities.

Many black African citizens have been abused by their leaders to the extent that they have become hopeless in their situations. Those who have not been abused are in the condition of learned helplessness, in our local parlance-- fama nyame syndrome. How else would we removed one incompetent party and replaced it with more incompetent party without seeking any accountability from them?

This is probably the reason why I have never liked Kufuor. Almost all the Regions came together to remove Rawlings from power, because for the first time in our land, they felt they were abused and needed to get rid of that relationship and fell in love with a "gentle giant." But unfortunately, he thought he was most handsome guy in Ghana and went on with his adulterous ways-- flying everywhere sitting down to plan- and even decorated himself and the gangs with high-prized Gold Chain.

Currently, the NDC is making the same mistake by continuing to push the abused - electorates- by using fear as their tools-- NPP is a tribal party, NPP will sell our oil, we can't trust Asante and Akyem people, this and that...just like when abuser continues to abuse his wife by telling her that "you would never get anyone like me" "you are not beautiful" and "no one will marry you". Do you see the trend?

The abused -electorates- will rise up again, and I hope and pray that when and if they did, they will teach their abusers- leaders- a painful lesson once for all.

I always love reading your comments especially when the issue is not about tribes. I believe Nkrumah had a great vision but he failed at the end. Kufuor would have been the best leader in our history (from his experience and background) but he appeared to suffer the old mentality or disease of the past generation where "nobody and nothing in my gov't is wrong" and "let them say whatever they like, they will stop". Like Rawlings, he got into bad company, especially in his second term and in the end created a bad image for himself domestically as he could not drive the masses.

I also think many Ghanians including Sekou equate a charismatic leader to a successful leader. Rawlings was inexperienced and less enlightened so he failed to use his 19 years to gather the best brains in the country when he had the greatest opportunity, but like you said he only had to fall on his advisers, some who had personal and partisan scores to settle.

Mahama is very enlightened and is cut in Kufuor's mold or demeanor but I personally think he has failed in utilizing the best brains available (many as a result of the current polarized political atmosphere) and again from the fact that he inherited a grossly failed gov't of Atta-Mills which he was part. This I think will result in his low marks in our future history books.

Charisma is something that can't normally be learnt. You either have it or not. JJ Had Charisma, Adilf Hitler in his own right had charisma to lead Germany over all the wars fought.There are more qualities that one should possess from birth such as a genius in leadership.

Rawlings could have been a very great leader had he been more refined or a little visionary. Being groomed as a soldier structured him to use force in all situations, yes the military environment skewed the direction of his thinking. People that surrounded Rawlings like the Ahoi's , Totobi-Kwakye, and Kwesi Botchwey ruled Ghana - Rawlings was just a mouthpiece.

Yes, Heatler could have been a great charismatic leader had he used his skills to improve human lives instead to destruction. For one man to successfully change the thought process of his followers to kill 6 million fellow human beings at a stretch is no joke. Had the same force been used the other way, Hitler could have changed the world.

You see, the two positions may be liken to the nature or nurture debate in the gay/lesbian debate: you've two adherents trenchantly ensconced in their own trenches regardless of the merits of the opponents' arguments.

So by all means, one needs some minimum of innate qualities, intelligence, for instance, to become a leader. A dunce can hardly become a leader. Yes, if you're into astrology or palmistry, you may even argue that the constellation of the stars when someone is born or the lines in the person's palms will determine whether the person will become a leader. But it is the social and environmental factors that shape what one becomes: whether the leader of a band of robbers or the leader of a cabal of "thieves and thiefettes" in the Castle! Or, just another has-been about to join the billions who will be dead and forgotten soon.

BTW, that leaders are nurtured is born out by the term "charismatic" leader used to describe those who were not expected to be leaders but circumstances pushed them to leadership positions by virtue of certain special qualities they displayed in reaction to certain events. The least said about what Weber said about that the better!

Can we equate ourselves to the South Africans blacks for the inhumane treatment and atrocities they suffered in the hands of their colonial masters. Dr. Sekou Nkrumah's opinion on leadership is totally misguided. There are very many leadership qualities and styles and no one particular person or leader had it all. Please let us not make mistake. Ghanaians should be wise and appreciate what we have. Nkrumah, Rawlings and all who came had their leadership qualities, both good and bad. Some accomplished a lot while others were not allowed to come out with their best. We dont always need fiery leaders to succeed. For leadership what is needed is wisdom and not fire because we will not always need fire to solve our problems but wisdom and fear of God. There are very different and many leadership qualities and skills so let's not make mistake by disparaging our leaders. We need to encourage and support them. Mahama is a good leader and that is why we voted him to power. Besides we should not forget that it takes a lot of rigorous process for one to assume the position of a president. We need leaders who are filled with wisdom and not fire.

He was indirectly in charge of affairs so this should have been a smooth transition for him. He was virtually the president for about 3 years before he was sworn in when Mills passed on. Marquis mark my words, things woun't get any better. You can tell from the kind of leadership you will be getting from the word go, you don't have to wait a year or two. Within NPP's first year, HIPIC was on everyone's lips debating whether it was a good option or not, the president put his foot down and we went through it, it brough so much relief and even helped us reduce our reliance on the world bank etc. Fast forward to NDC 2, in the first few years judgement debt was on everyones lips, all of a sudden we are getting back into the grips of the world bank and all those controlling entities because we have managed to mismanage our resources so badly over the last four years. How can the office of the president alone spend $300m in 3 months and over it's budget allocation between October to December 2012?
How was the previous administration in 2000 and 2004 able to provide N1 motorway, mass cocoa spraying exercise, NYEP, Mass transport system, School feeding, NHIS etc? Why can't this Govt do the same and more? WHY?? It all points to one thing and that is weak and poor leadership, he is not fit to be a leader, sad but its true.

Oh Sekou, so you've turned on Mahama because he didn't offer you a position in his team after all the ARSE kissing you did earlier. You always seem to embarrass the memory of your father every time you open your mouth!! You see as much as I love Nkrumah and Rawlings, both of them being some of the finest leaders Africa has had but they both had one thing in common as they succeeded in polarising the country something we are grappling with now. For no matter how irresponsible the opposition is no country can progress when a huge percentage of the country is actively working against you. As a result Nkrumah/Rawlings with all their good intentions where destined to fail because they didn't manage to bring the opposition on board. with the advent of the internet this has become even more important. A successful leader will be one who can masterfully bring along the opposition with good governance and positive arguments, not one with "fire in his belly" and a gun ho attitude.

These leaders know that the processing of our raw materials locally has huge benefits for Ghana, for example, creation of employment opportunities, increase in foreign currency earnings, healthier balance of payments position etc. But our leaders continue to export our unprocessed raw materials cheaply to the West especially, because they know that the MAJOR reason why Nkrumah was toppled was that he pursued a policy of processing our raw materials locally so they do not want to incur the wrath of the West.

Dr Sekou Nkrumah may be right on the point that the president has no ''fire in his belly''. This country needs a president fire in the belly apart from the vision, innovation, drive and hard working. It is clear things are deteriorating and the person to put the country on the right road is the person who has fire in the belly as mentioned by Dr Sekou Nkrumah.
One impediment in the party political system in Ghana especially is the various competing interests. The desire to enrich oneself has an overiding influence in our party political people so much that nothing is good to change them for the better. Instead of building a country where every hard working people have equal opportunities, some have decided to cheat the majority of the people.
In my view, NDC which is the governing party has the opportunity to change leadership if they are not performing. Ghanaians dont need to have a leader whose face is known before he could be voted for as the president as we had in 2012. We are seing maturity in our politics as the years wore on.
I also wish the CPP will organise itself well to really offer it the opportunity to assume the mantle of leadership in the near future. It is worth noting those core supporters of the NDC are coming from the CPP. It is therefore posiible to win them back to the CPP.

Constitutionally Rawlings is barred from Presidency by the way he superintended nearly 20 years of waste and lack of direction. Admit it Kufour inspite of his faults showed clout as a leader and arguably after Nkrumah he stands tall. Ghanaians must accept the stark reality that we have a non-performing President in the seat of government.

Sekou should work harder at understanding how to be a self made man, before he even thinks about giving pointers on what makes for great presidents and leaders. The fact that this man Sekou puts Nkrumah who was elected by the Ghanaian people into the same box as JJ Rawlings, who imposed himself through the use of force upon the people of Ghana, shows that perhaps, not much of Nkrumah's thinking genes were passed unto his son Sekou. kuffour didn't seem a president either before he even won the flag bearership. but what worked for kuffour was his all-inclusive attitude. JAK was not scared of people with presidential ambition and people he might perceived more endowed than him.
papa jerry was not credited with leadership credentials but the man was not scared to include anybody in his government. he used professionals, professors, commoners even opposition to stir this country through turbulent times.
unfortunately, the professor and his successor seemed to be shying away from some of the best in their party. spio, kumbour, tony aidoo, segbefia, twumasi appiah, etc would just not feature prominently in their governments.
added to that they are hell-bent excluding the creme de la creme from the volta region in their government. each of them dangle one cabinet seat to the region just as JAK also did.

However, I sincerely believe he is too slow and not actually ready for the task as a president. He does not actually have the "fire" in his belly to bark as a president against those individuals or government officials whose conducts are gradually running down Ghana. What does it take him as a president in ensuring, government and public or state functionaries are held responsible for acts tending to run down our country? President Mahama to me, is too slow. He should put in sustainable measures to stamp out corruption in our land. I have noticed that, when a politician is crying for power and finally ascends to the presidency, it's like the politician is suddenly overwhelmed by heaps of national issues and become confused. I think the president, not to talk about his vice are presently in a state of confusion. They still do not have full grip on the governance of the country. However, let's keep on pushing and praying for them to do what is expected by the public from the presidency. May God bless our homeland Ghana.

It is funny or weird for Sekou to suggest that Presidents Mills and John Mahama are fit to be Vice Presidents but they are not fit to be Presidents. The position of a Vice President is just like that of a President – they all have the same qualifications.
By the constitution which is the supreme law of Ghana, only a person who has won more than 50% of valid votes cast in a presidential election is fit to be President. Comparing Mills and Mahama to Nkrumah and Rawlings, is a misfiring because they all operate or operated in different eras. Nobody can deny the fact that Nkrumah, Rawlings, Kufour and Mills all left remarkable legacies to bring Ghana this far and Mahama is also doing his bit.
Nobody is more qualified than Mahama to be President of Ghana. He has been well prepared. As a former member of parliament, a minister and Vice President , he is the most experienced man in town to be president.
My advice to Sekou Nkrumah is that, the most credible way to participate in political discourse is by being consistent. Let Sekou first examine himself and work on his own failings and then he can be on solid grounds to examine others otherwise, he will make himself irrelevant in Ghanaian politics.

become a president. To be a leader you need
a vision and you need to sell that vision
to people to buy into your thought and follow
you; leaders are allowed to lead, they are not
imposed. If you are allowed to lead, then
you can easily become a president, one-touch!
Now an extraordinary power source comes online when a person is clear with himself and others that he is there to serve. That power flows as long as the leader and those led share clarity of purpose. A servant leader repeatedly orients himself towards the needs of others and taps the power that comes from having the big purpose. This clarity of purpose is what causes the parent of an angry adolescent to take a deep breath and let it pass or to clean up behind the toddlers at midnight. This clarity of purpose causes a shop owner to anguish for weeks before paying off workers.
Vision serves two powerful purposes; it points in a direction so that we can all work toward the same end, it also generates intrinsic energy. The more desirable the vision, the harder people will work and sacrifice to achieve it. Leadership is clearly simple. Leading quite literally means you are heading toward a destination, you want to arrive somewhere. You are out in front. When that destination is clear, when it looks like a place that people want to go, then they will move.
H.E. John Dramani MAHAMA has proved to Ghanaians that NDC has a vision for the nation’s development. He convincingly marketed the vision to the people, and the majority of constituents have finally agreed with him and elected him as leader-president to execute projects, through The Better Ghana Agenda, which will help reach the national goal. The Better Ghana Agenda provides a mental image of where the people of Ghana want to go together and through that image completely transform Ghana.

Of course, leadership takes much more than just a vision; it takes work, detail, and action. Indeed, John Dramani. MAHAMA has the people in place to drive the drive, but he needs all Ghanaians (from all political parties) to come on board and work together. In this respect, I first of all congratulate all elected parliamentarians from various political parties, especially Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore (Adenta), and Fifi Fiavi Franklin Kwetey (Ketu South), for having gained the trust of their respective constituents and call on them to unite as a team and facilitate the implementation of the Better Ghana Agenda which the whole nation has approved by electing John Dramani MAHAMA. By accepting to work with the President, they will effectively serve their constituencies honorably.
Elected parliamentarians should remember that lawmaking is also a public and collective good and the Better Ghana Agenda is as well public good that we must protect and enforce because it is the central and defining task of a democratic legislature. It is a complex enterprise that depends, for its adequate performance, on a number of component tasks that must be satisfactorily carried out. From the myriad of problems, issues, and policy proposals that someone in the society would like the parliament to address, a manageable subset must be selected for serious consideration. Policies to confront the selected problems must be formulated and legislation crafted.

A leader’s sense of honor provides evidence of the quality of relationships that he or she has with people. In other words, the feeling of being honored is a reflection of the perceptions of others; it is not something that you create on your own.

Congratulations Mr. Representative Leader John, the people of Ghana have chosen you as a visionary and servant leader, Ghanaians have elected you as their President and this in One-Touch Victory.
