Prince Kofi Amoabeng, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UT Bank, says Ghana has failed in spite of the recognition of the country as an emerging economy.

He said “truly from what I have seen in the last 50 years I can truly say that Ghana is a failing state. Businesses are not being helped to flourish because of the lack of structure and infrastructural developments.”

He explained that Ghana’s economy has not been in the best shape in the past 50 years and businesses, which are the backbone of any successful economy, continue to be killed by those who have been at the helm over the years.

Mr. Amoabeng disclosed this while speaking on the topic “challenges facing private sector businesses in Ghana” at a forum held to celebrate the 1st anniversary of The Finder, a private newspaper set up by the former Managing Director of Graphic Communication Limited.

He noted that Ghana has not been able to realize its development potential because there is too much corruption and indiscipline in every sector, particularly the public service.

“Because of the structural breakdown, Ghanaians do not feel accountable to anyone and corruption has taken over every aspect of our economy,” he reiterated.

He said in spite of Ghana’s touted democratic credentials, the type of structures and systems that would make Ghana an economic success had not been delivered.

The UT Bank boss called for practical steps to be taken in order to create the enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

Mohammed Awal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Marble Communications Group, publishes of The Finder, The Weekend Finder and Finder Sports, said the anniversary topic: “Strengthening State Institutions for Private Sector Development” was chosen to highlight the need for the state to play an active role in developing the private sector.

“The state must collaborate with the private sector to encourage development, he said, adding that The Finder was developed to complement journalism in national development and they were committed to producing credible, balance and development-oriented stories.

He announced that the company will next year come out with its business paper and an electronic media house.

Peter Jones, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, said Africa’s private sector had generated an estimated 70 percent of the continent’s output, approximately two-thirds of its investment and 90 percent of employment on the continent.

He added that based on these statistics offered by the African Union (AU), the creation and development of private sector job, is seen as one of the most effective and sustainable strategies for alleviating poverty in Africa.

He said Africa could reduce dependence on foreign aid if the private sector becomes dynamic.

Mr. Jones noted that challenges facing Ghana’s private sector such as high cost of utility, lack of access to information on external markets and inadequate physical infrastructure could be tackled if the sector is given the needed attention.

The SC case is an eye opener to Afari Gyan who I know will not want to conduct any elections in Ghana again, and to all future Electoral commissioners that The days when people were ignorant about elections is passed and gone. Ghanaians should be very careful with such people ; if they can conjure extra Pink Sheets to appear for KPMG to check which wasn't attainable, and now another Pink Sheets then the Judges are in big trouble because I can bet that the NPP has a Secret Pink Sheets Printing Press producing forgged Pink Sheets. The Judges should watch out! because when the NPP ( NOTORIOUS PEOPLE'S PARTY) decide making things difficult for Ghanaians they won't stop untill someone stops them. The worst thing the Supreme Court Judges did was putting suicidal rope on their necks by commiting themselves in this Petition Case when they could have thrown it overboard for reasons that they the SC Judges Constitutionally Sworn in President Mahama based on the EC Declaration before the Pertition was filed. When you hear that SC Judges are jailing citizens of the country for misplaced utterances without giving them fair trials then they are confused and stuck. I detest criminal or misplaced utterances but SC Judges shouldn't be the prosecutor and judges prosecuting and passing judgment then sentencing the defendant who offended them. This is abuse of power for they have proved that they are above the rule of law. The SC Judges should have sued their offenders to a neutral court with a neutral judge. When Kennedy Adjepong made that feudal comment that the Ashantis should kill the Ewes and Gas in Ashantiland what did the SC Judges do about it? Nothing! because it doesn't affect them personally; this I call self centeredness. If the Highest Judicial Personnell could take the law into their own hands and sentence their perpetrators without fair trial then they are as worse as the perpetrators. Anyway, this is what the innocent people in Ghana would espect since all the Lawyers have abadoned the Law profession and became politicians fighting against each other for cheap money. The SC Judges know that there are no more experienced Lawyers practising to challenge them since all of them have become politicians or working for politicians. This is sad!!

The wishful thinking for the respondents was that they would not be promulgated extensively as the petitioner's lawyer did - hence their wild objections against introduction to the floor. You may also understand that the Judges had copies of all the pink sheets and could have drawn immediate attention to their origin had such assertion been in attempt.

I could understand the collapse of his stamina after his effusive start from the blocks ; now he wants to chicken out of it like a wounded lion facing barrages of darted spears. HE IS TIRED. He slurs after raising a long objection into intelligible murmur and slowly thumps into his seat - a disposition reflective of attempt to survive remnants of greatness.

Whoever in his right mind could judge Tsatsu normal when he pinned a witness in a box for two weeks in a circuitous marathon of cross examination, an expedition which brought him more dishonour than success carved by his overzealous tapping into credibility of a distinguished witness. In the end he emerged tired, fully exhausted from his own strain in a race reserved for youthful exuberance. Disappointment may not be enough to characterize his mental state after a fortnight of frustration but surrounded by a posse comitatus he fantasized his ego by poking his chest out as a luminary armed to the teeth to propound legal theories aimed at destroying the petitioners, a task his enduring spirit could not match his waning stamina.

Yet he must account for his work measured against the huge sums of money the NDC has promised. Money which has been squeezed from public coffers - part of a loot which has almost brought Ghana to her knees.

If I am not mistaken, in their petition the Petitioners raised concerns that the NDC corraborated with the EC to rig the election. My question is : Why are these Mahama and NDC lawyers strongly defend the EC ? They put up a much stronger effort in the defense of the EC than their own clients. Again, an eyebrow raiser ! THIEVES

As it is, the judges are sitting back to allow him to have a field day.No one takes it lightly when accused of bias more so judges but that is exactly what Addison did.Perhaps Addison might think he has blackmailed the judges and would want to take advantage of it.This is completely unprofessional of a lawyer who has no manners at all.

Meanwhile the public is sitting back and watching Addison on the loose on a wild fishing expedition with no end in sight.No wonder the respondent's lawyers are getting agitated and perhaps the judges as well.

Is NPP Forging Documents At Supreme Court?

They say desperate situations call desperate measures. Otherwise you will not see the kind of dung that the NPP has splashed on itself and desperately trying to wash it off with every available liquid.

When the on-going Supreme Court (SC) petition case challenging the results of the 2012 Presidential election started, everybody thought that the NPP was so much in a hurry to get the case over with. Mr Philip Addison, the lead counsel for the petitioners never ceased to draw the attention of the nine justices anytime he felt that the lawyers for the respondents were adopting any delaying tactics.

To the extent that after Dr Afari Gyan, the star witness of the Electoral Commission had finished with his evidence in chief, Mr Addison argued that he would like to be the last person to cross-examine him so that the respondents will not adopt any feet dragging tactics.

Mr Addison’s argument did not go down well with the respondents who also made their point that Mr Addison should make the first go at Dr Afari. The argument became so intense that in the end the justices sided with the petitioners that the respondents should cross-examine Dr Afari-Gyan first. This, many believed was aimed at speeding up the whole petition process.

But how dead wrong was everybody. We were all mistaken because Mr Addison who claimed he was so much in a hurry to win the case for the petitioners keeps dragging the whole process from one winding thing to another. And I bet, no one knows where everything is leading to as Philip Addison seems to be fishing for something which is not there.

And in his anxiety to get something to stick on the respondents, Mr Addison is desperately throwing everything around. That is why on Monday July 8, Addison was accused by the respondents that he has forged some documents. In fact Mr Tony Lithur, counsel for President John Mahama told the court that some of the exhibits tendered by Philip Addison were forged. He accused the NPP of creating new exhibits which are different from the list that they have already been filed in court.

Mr Lithur noted that for some strange reasons the NPP has done some cancellations and deletions on the some of the pink sheets. He added emphatically that the NPP has forged some documents to correspond with KPMG’s report.

But even though NPP fought back on these allegations with some justices even saying that they are indeed strong allegations, the respondents stood their grounds. It seems the respondents are keeping eagle eyes on every move by the petitioners which is why they continue to pore over every document they tender.

Mr Tsikata was accused variously by the NPP for keeping Bawumia in the witness box for almost two weeks but Philip Addison may surpass Tsatsu as nobody can now predict when he will be done with his cross-examination of Dr Afari Gyan for the addresses to begin.

The respondents have vowed never to allow the petitioners to sneak in any document to bamboozle to court, that is why Philip Addison continues to have road blocks in his cross-examination of Dr Afari Gyan.

The title of the publication is very misleading. How can one suggest being tired of something? It should come as a complaint, exclamation, concern, and not 'suggestion' as being alleged from this reportage.
