  Goro boys and girls are the middlemen dealing with driver's license and inspection of vehicles. You bribe them and they get you all the necessary documents you for your. vehicle(s)

  The Independent News papers should be interested in reporting several tonnes relevant issues confronting nation instead of poking it`s nose in to matters that are not so important to development,if you they want to progress and win awards like other news reporters, why did they not publish the the rampant jobless situation swallowing the nation rendering people into robbers and prostitution?, they should mind their business instead of distracting young men and women who work harder to earn living at the DVLA premises, after all is better than stealing.   The saying, “what men can do, women can do even better”, is finding perfect expression at the Weija branch of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), where ladies are virtually kicking their male counterparts out of what is popularly known as the “goro” business.
  
  “Goro” is a business in which people serve as unofficial middlemen between drivers and the licensing offices of the DVLA. Goro boys (the middlemen) register and obtain certificates for drivers by proxy at charges higher than the normal.
  
  At the DVLA offices, road worthy certificate costs GH¢42 but when it is obtained through the goro people, a driver pays about GH¢70, for the same certificate. Apart from the high charges, naive clients of these middlemen end up owning fake DVLA certificates.
  
  Though the business is against DVLA directives, its lucrative nature has lured young women, and now they are virtually taking over the business of the goro boys.
  
  These ladies, who could be described as goro girls are always smartly dressed and at first glance do not look like such. Their protocol and their good understanding of the registration processes give them competitive advantage over the boys.
  
  Sometimes the girls are seen negotiating and winning contracts away from the boys. They are quite bold, persistent and unrelenting.
  
  “One advantage in dealing with the goro girls is that, they are able sidestep all the laborious bureaucratic processes that one needs to go through before acquiring or renewing their licenses,” one driver told The Independent.
  
  “Sometimes, they outwit the process better than the boys,” another driver added.
  
  With the entrance of the girls into this business, the number of the middle people has soared, adding to the sweat of the DVLA which is also exploring ways to combat the illegal activity.
  
  The Weija branch of the authority seems to be intensifying actions against the goro business, by serving a strong-worded notice to the public.
  
  An extract of the notice said “It has come to the notice of the management of DVLA the increasing spate of impersonation and forgery mostly perpetrated by middlemen, who hang around the offices of the Authority.”
  
  It added: “the authority condemns those activities in no uncertain terms and wishes to assure customers and the general public that the authority would do everything possible with its mandate to curtail the deplorable”.
  
  The notice warned, the activities of the middlemen and women were criminal and that the public dealt with them at their own risks.
  
  It further cautioned the goro boys and girls to desist from such activities or face the full rigours of the law when apprehended.
  
  From all indications, the authority seems to be purging itself from allegations that some of its officials are in tune and conniving with the goro people. The officials of the Weija DVLA office declined to grant The Independent interview.
  
  Meanwhile, the new Chief Executive Officer of DVLA Rudolph Perfect Berkley has promised to reduce to the barest minimum the activities of middlemen, popularly known as “goro boys”, in processing documents for propective traffic users.
  
  He told TV3 sometime ago that he would be committed to carrying out a programme that will see automation of most of the processes at the Authority.
  
  “I am going to embark on a programme which ensures that automation process; that ensures that all our services are brought online,” he said.
  
  “Once you automate systems and we bring services online, where people are encouraged to apply online for such services, I believe in all honesty that the issue of tampering or faking documents will reduce to a large measure,” he added.

  If you don't know the goro boys and girls and their ways, they will dupe you about twice the actual registration cost. I was at Wieja DVLA some few weeks ago to register a vehicle and I saw that these so called goro boys and girls were all over the place doing brisk cheating business whiles there was some announcement being made in various languages that clients at DVLA should do their own transactions; yet the DVLA officers entertain them and work with them.

  Goro Bussiness is everywhere especially in the government ministries.If you want to go by the normal process then you have to wait for long time.Corruption is pervasive and it is the order of the day.
