You don't need that now.

The idea of housing Police personal in barracks is an old colonial concept.Policemen should be mostly recruited from the community as done in the USA.

It appears there is not enough housing in the barracks to accommodate the newly recruited police. The solution is to provide them with housing allowance so they find alternative housing in the community. The police force can save money by not building barracks for its personnel. Housing police personnel in barracks is a legacy from the colonial days and it should now be abolished.

If at the point of the police recruitment there is corruption and incompetence, what output should we expect from these recruits - I know we are all aware of the ADAGE "Garbage In Garbage Out".
The problem we have is the leadership from the president through its organisations don't understand Accountability systems and processes. Accountability systems must start at the inception of every programme or process. Then during the operation of the process and/or programme we continuously monitor and appraise the process to ensure the system is working as we want or expect. This is not known in Ghana. All we know is to make noise we noise's sake. Shame onto the so-called leaders we have in Ghana, the IGP in this case.

90 young men recruited to close up the deficit in police is a good move. In Africa when you give a job to a single person it means you are feeding 10 persons.
So the 90 policemen will feed assure the education of at least 900 persons. The Government of President John Dramani Mahama must be praised for that. As regard the housing let them be there pending the resolution of the accommodation. Let them get trained to deal with crimes, robbery, drug trafficking and others offences, That's the most important. housing will come later.

Are these Police recruits not paid more than, or like other public servants in Ghana? Why can't they rent their own rooms to be paid from their salaries? Teachers and other public appointees look for their own rental properties, and pay for them, why not the "corrupt" Police Officers in Ghana? The idea of Police barracks should be a thing of the past. Policemen and women should live with the same population they are paid to protect, and not to be segregated from them. Should the Police Officer in Ghana live in the population, and gain access to the readily available information to help him or her to do the job, or rely on the unreliable volunteer information from the public to do his or her job? The police colonial regimental codes of ethics and unprofessional rules for the country of Ghana, must be discontinued. After all, the police are still using the 1957, 1963, CPP constitutional laws, and 1966 NLC decrees, 1969 progress party laws, 1973 NRC decrees, 1976 TO 1978 SMC DECREES, AFRC LAWS OF 1979, and PNDC LAWS to arrest Ghnaians and prosecute them before " His Lordship, Bill Atuguba' TO IMPRISON KEN kURANKYE today. What a democracy, and the rule of law with millionaires Parliamentary democracy., Oh Ghana, nawaao! Police accommodation, headline news?
