I recently watched a TV programme about the contribution of the 82nd Division of the West African Frontier Force to the success of the British war efforts in Burma during WW2. Though not commented on in the programme, a brief scene was a monument to the three brave soldiers mentioned in the article (situated in the Chriatianborg Crossroad? - sorry don't know Accra well).

The monument was in a sorry state, with cracks in the brick work. I remember commenting to my wife that something decent should be erected to their memory. That march to the Governor's residence in 1948 and the shooting that ensued were the start of events that 'Saint' Nkrumah marshalled to gain independence for Ghana.

The British Gov't truly owe so much gratitude these men especially taken them to a war that did not concern us at the time. Ironically, as I have been walking on the streets of so many UK cities, towns and country side in the last 27 years, most do not have any idea about this story especially in the context helping in a direct way to sustain the British economy. That war aka as the south-east Asia or Burma conflict was over oil to support the British economy. RIP COMRADES!!!

with the way this is taking a national apeeal,I think the government should chip in to make the monument an everlasting edifice for a great son of Ghana,Gas ans Laamei.
