According to the bible, the ways of the creator takes presidence over the others, especially, when the prerson is a born again christian of Christ Jesus. Owing to that the early christians in Rome were faced with persecutions, abuses, harassments and some were killed by the politicians and the religious authorities in Rome. The books; act, luke and other epistles give accounts of these brutalities. Not forgetting, the head of the creator God Almighty and his Kingdom on earth is The person whose name is JESUS CHRIST, who shed his blood to rescue human beings from the tentacles of Lucifer and his agents on earth.

Kufuor emplaned to one of his foreign junkets on the very day that floods had claimed several lives and property in Northern and Upper Regions. He could not see losing those per diem dollars. TO HECK WITH THOSE PEOPLE IN THE NORTH.

Kufuor, we all know, took corruption in Ghana to another level. Into the stratosphere. His Ghana@50 was fraught with fraud and corruption. And this is the man who we should look to for leadership? Excuse me! I have seen better.

On the other Hand, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel is now on the prrmises of the erstwhile Labadi Pleasure beach recreational center where we use boggie to afternoon jump sessions back in the good old days. It is located on the shores of Atlantic or gulf of Guinea. Standing from Trade Fair site you can see it in the distance. I hope I could help bring some clarity in our daily Ghanaian family feud. We are one big Family under the groove of Maame/Daavi Ghana.

To me any party or group can rule Ghana provided there is no blatant oppression and there is fairness.

Despite the fact that the NDC party is more organized and more inclusive in Ghana, it is also a very bias party and very oppressive towards its critics. We can never build a nation this way. Don't forget that Ghana is just a union of ethnic groups. Direct oppression by any government towards any group is likely to derail any progress we may have towards unity. The only way towards unity in this country is fairness.

Accra - Ghana Commercial Bank is under serious financial pressure over an extraordinarily foolish corporate decision to extend a 30 billion cedi loan to one man - who did not provide any security.

The amount is the equivalent of the annual budget of two universities and two ministries. At an extremely generous interest rate of 32 per cent,(at the time the rate was 40 per cent) the loan is gathering interest of some 8.2 million cedis a day, 280 million cedis a month and 3 billion cedis a year - more than the Ministry of Tourism's budget.

That sum is interest only - and does not factor capital repayment at all. The interest has pushed the loan past the 40 billion cedis mark, causing ripples in the boardroom.

"Mr. Panford Bray, how can you justify giving a loan of such size without first charge on the property or any collateral security?", Yours truly queried the Managing Director of GCB Monday night.

But Mr. Bray had just assumed office and could not give any satisfactory response to the question.

"This facility was given by the previous board, he confirmed, but it is not correct to say that we took no security." Pushed to tell what sort of security was offered, Mr. Bray declined to say, seeking refuge in the time-honoured tradition of client confidentiality.

GCB sources suggest that it may have been guaranteed by the bank of Ghana, an absolute abomination since BoG is under strict world Bank instructions never to guarantee any such loans.

The Deputy Managing Director (Operations), Mrs. Matilda Obeng-Ansong, ducked the question when she was also called. She said the subject did not fall under her specific schedule - Credits.

Board Chairman Mr. John Sey, Senior Partner of the accounting firm, Deloitte and Touche, also admitted that he inherited the situation but there is no cause for alarm.

"The loan will be repaid" said Mr. Sey, who is retiring due to age and fatigue soon.

Either the aging accountant is ill-informed or could not care less, because his optimism had absolutely no grounding. Chronicle's own independent investigations and analysis of the current situation on the ground show the hopelessness of the situation..

Yours Truly can report that nearly 20 months since the last tranche of the money was doled out, the beneficiary, Sir Tamman, the Godfather of The First Lady, had paid zero cedis.

Indeed, GCB's debt recovery team has often had to flee in fright at the powerful connections of the foreign businessman and name dropping.

The Board is too scared of Tamman Jr. to take any action that they would ordinarily take against any Ghanaian business loan defaulter.

Last November, some members of the Board which has witnessed the introduction of new faces threatened to resign rather than deal with this scandal.

But it appeared to be an empty bluff as they are still glued to their jobs. Some of them are high ranking members and financiers of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The appointment of Mr. Kwame Addo who is on a number of major boards and one of the party's money bags was not welcomed according to insiders. There were quiet protests at his inclusion on the board because Mr. Addo is "such a busy man who cannot even find the time to attend meetings." And he will not be motivated to protest at any thing that will put the NDC in bad light", observed one lady familiar with developments in the corporate rooms of GCB.

Mr. Addo is also on the Board of SSNIT.

Other board members are Mrs. Esi Sutherland Addy, a respected academician of considerable integrity, Felix Ntrakwa, a lawyer, Messrs George Okoh, an accountant, Peter Ocran, D.S. Mahama, Franklin Asamoah, Eric Okai, the two deputy Managing Directors, Mrs. Obeng-Ansong and Kwabena Dapaah-Siakwan and the Managing Director Mr. Bray (He is not a white man).

Chronicle's own intelligence reading of the loan portfolio shows a dismal 2 percent chance of recovery.

La Palm Hotel is leveraged to the hilt. It has developed a solid policy of competitive price cutting. At those levels, it can only be sustained if the hotel is financed with stolen or drug money.

At current gross monthly takings of about $500,000.00, roughly c1.8 billion, La Palm hotel is even reneging on fat salaries it promised staff poached from hotels across the nation's capital, including only a handful (eight) from next door Labadi Beach Hotel.

Huge overheads, other dubious loans, repeat dubious loans Chronicle is investigating makes the chances of redeeming the loan of size qualify for classification as a "bad and doubtful debt".

Not getting the loan should have dire consequences for the national interest, GCB and the staff's long term good.

La Palm is still working to complete 200 more rooms at a time that a decision has already been taken to build another five star beach- front 450 room hotel, three miles away from the same stretch.

The portents are not encouraging. GCB appears to be suffering from internal bleeding which will not show now but may begin to impact negatively on its health in the medium term like the two latest casualties of similarly corrupt credit schemes, BHC and Cooperative Bank.

The nation suffers. Tamman and his sleaze bags go shopping. - Kofi Coomson reporting.

Not that honoring our heroes were wrong, but honoring others with the intention of honoring yourself at the same time was so despicable, I am yet to forgive him.

And then a time comes that another leader is to be honored, and he still believes that he has toot his own horns again at the expense of another leader- his better.

Does he know that Elisha received a "Double Portion" of Elijah's anointing? Is he saying that he did better than Kofi Abrefa did during his time?

Well, may be true, because Busia had only less than 3 years in office, but we know that his plans and policies were continued and implemented by Acheampong and Rawlings.

But even if that was true, should he made mention of that at the function to honor Kofi Busia? Do you see why Kufuor had no "EFIE" nyansa, aka, wisdom; the same way he thought it fitting to decorate himself while honoring our heroes, the same way he finds it necessary to brag about himself in a wrong place.

When Busia became Prime Minister in 1968, Ghana's native population was less than 8 million. In 1970,right after the deportations, census conducted in both countries revealed that Ghana's population was 7 and a half million and Nigeria's population was 55 million excluding those who have scattered all over West Africa. Nigerians in Ghana did not engage in any other form of employment except trading and their birth and crime rate in Ghana was astonishing.

Having taken over every corner store in Ghana with their rapid population growth, it was obvious that Nigerians would have taken over the country with their sons and daughters now seeking employment in the Police and the army.

This dreaded scenario is exactly what we have allowed the Ewes to create in Ghana today. Although the Ewes have not reached the point where they will start their oppression on other Ghanaians, if the security forces in Ghana do not get balanced, that is likely what is going to happen if one crazy Ewe like Kpega or the late Kotoka gets the chance to become a leader. We all witnessed what JJ did to Ghanaians under some fake revolution.

I am one of the 1983 Nigerian deportees who was forced to walk on foot from Badagry in Nigeria to Aflao in Ghana, but I don't regret because I know Busia did the right thing deporting Nigerians.

Remember we did not have the ECOWAS protocol as we have today, and so everyone was expected to have regular immigration papers, to live and work in Ghana. Lebanese, Indians, Nigerians, everyone just came set up business in Ghana. Worse still they were using their businesses to smuggle/transfer scarce foreign exchange to their "Home" countries. In addition to petty trading, the Lebanese controlled the timber bsiness in Ghana. Lebanon does not have diamonds, but Beirut had the biggest diamond market in the world, all at the expense of Ghana and Sierra Leone.

Busia decided to 'indigenise' the timber and petty rading businesse in Ghana. He gave the West Africans the choice of regularising their stay in Ghana. Thsoe who had been born in Ghana could even take Ghanaian citizenship. Becasue they were so 'powerful' thorugh corruption, they thought Busia was joking, until the deadline ended. There were even discussions with their home governments, all of whom thought he was a joke. In Accra, mostly, where everyone who came form outside was "dwam bii", even Busia's Ga wife (Naa Morkor) was insulted everywhere.

If you were a leader faced with such a situation, what would you do? Busia was propbably one of the most cultured and tolerant leaders Africa has eve had. Ask PV Obeng and Ward-Brew.

If we are going to move forward, we need to close our doors and everyone that comes in should be accounted for.- we had nurses from India working as Doctors and no one even find it necessary to check their background. Can a Ghanaian just go to any of these lands and shows his papers and start working?

Now we have Chinese coming to country to do Galamsey and still we don't see why it was right for Busia to do that. We have Nigerians buying our passports and traveling with and still not understand why Busia did what he needed to do.

If it was right in Ghana, then Idi Amin was genius. We can justify the Christian inquisition only by also taking the level of the intelligence of those in power at the time into consideration. As far as most Ghanaians were concerned, the Nigerians left Ghana in buses and trucks to leave the borders of Ghana. What happened afterwards is anybody's guess. There were Burkinabes, Malians, Liberians (nearly as many as Nigerians), etc non of those nationals ever complained about the policy. Why only Nigerians? May be those ardent detractors of Prof Busia sometimes ought to ask themselves that question.

It is good that we dabate the present and past of our country with open mind and learn things that will move our country forward.

The two were always getting into trouble after Elisha died in Ghana and their parents could be confident that if any mischief occurred in their town, their two young sons Koffuor and Busia were involved in some capacity. The parents were at their wit's end as to what to do about their sons' behavior.
The parents had heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children in the past, so they contacted him, and he agreed to give it his best shot. He asked to see the boys individually, so the eight-year-old was sent to meet with him first. The clergyman sat the boy down and asked him sternly, "Where is God?"
The boy made no response, so the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God?"
Again the boy made no attempt to answer, so the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face, "WHERE IS GOD?"
At that, the boy bolted from the room, ran directly home, and slammed himself in his closet. His older brother followed him into the closet and said, "What happened?"

Prof. Mills came at a right time but like Dr. Busia, he was surrounded by wicked and greedy career politicians who took his calm and fatherly nature as an excuse to undermine him. Busia's 27 months in office was porbably the most producive in our devopmentsl history, in terms of sustainable development. Remember Rural Development? I do not know where you were born but Busia's government provided more potable water to rural Ghana, and still probably holds that record - Kwanyaku Water Works, Winneba Water Works, Saltpond, for the Central Region. Tarkwa, Half Assini for the Western Region, Lake Bosomtwi and others for Ashanti, Nsawam, Mampong for the Eaatern Region. In fact he did it for every region, for the rural communities that had been neglected for so long. Ever heard of guinea worm? It was Busia who began its eradication in Ghana and if you are a truly a medical doctor, you should know that.

Heard of Rural Industries? If Acheampong had not rudely ended his rule, Ghana would have had the Rural Indutrial Estates that are associated with towns and villages in the UK and Germany.

It was Busia who originally intiated the JSS/SHS concept, to reduce the time Ghanaians spent at pre-University from a ridiculous 15 to 12, hoping to bring it down further to 10!

If you knew how our universities operated, they used to have about 45% exapatriate even in 1969. Poor Ghana paid for the children and wives of the lecturers every year to come and enjoy themselves in Ghana. It had got to a point the state could not afford it anymore.

So he decided that the universities should train their own lecturers - everyone who got a first class or second class upper was to be sent outside to do a Master's/PhD and come back to lecture. I was one of the beneficiaries of that policy. Several memebrs of our 1974, 75 and 76 groups have been Vice Chancellors in the Universities since. Had it not been the idiotic Acheampong who kept many ous us outside after our courses, Ghana would have had some of the best universities in the world. We went to the best uniiversities all over the world - UK, America, Australia,Germany and Canada!

We need to learn our histroy properly and not defame people when we do not have a clue about things!

Because of their very nature with very little raw material base, by 1965, apart from Nsawam Canaries (Orange and pineapple), Takoradi Paper Conversion and Cocoa Products (wood and cocoa, respectively) and the textile industries whose cotton farms were falling apart, Nzema Copra Oil and a few others, most of the factories were either falling apart or else producing at about 30-40% capacity.

There were no raw materials and the machinery were falling apart. I saw it at Aboso Glass Factory and during visits to my friends at Bonsa Tyres in 1970. Because of our "paa paa" the western countries had contrived to bring down the proce of cocoa from £1600/ton in 1956 to less than £900.

Many of the factories were derelict, and had been so by the time Busia came to power in 19969. The ones that were kept going Jerry Rawlings sold to himself and his wife. So which ones are you blaming Busia for?

That word patriotic is a strange one to our politicians, the gold coast doesn't come anywhere on the list of nations that own gold. It is a moot point that Nana Akuffo-Addo followed in Busia's footsteps and whipped up antagonistic tribal sentiments prior to the last election.

Very little record was kept of the transaction and Ghana's economy is now feeling the negative impact of such horrible act. time to arrest and put Kuffour on trial for his economic crimes.

Does Kuffour rememeber Prof Busia of the Classic Department of the University of Ghana, as Primister of Ghana took a 4 year salary advance and worked for less than 3 years in Office? During his time, Ghana started experiencing severe shortages of basic goods like sugar, toilet rolls, milk, sardine, rice, maize and you name it. Ghana was very polarized on tribal lines - Ashantis and Non- Ashantis - and the case where Non- Ashanti Civil servants were fired in large numbers and refused to re-instate them after losing the case at court. These are some of the bitter memories of Prof Busia to some of us.
