Ghana's route to success in Civil Aviation is simply OPEN SKY POLICY; i.e, literally open the sky of Ghana to any airworthy aircraft and internationally licensed air operators who wish to operate into, operate over or operate via Ghana. We should allow fifth freedom flights in and out of Ghana. Open Sky Policy should be combined with competitive pricing of goods and services provided to airline companies at Kotoka International Airport. Exhorbitant fuel, handling, parking, and catering services drive carriers away from even the most strategic airports around the world. Increased flight movements culmulate into higher revenues from navigation and airport services. Last but not the least, Kotoka International Airport is ulgly, shameful and not representive of Ghana's image abroad. All efforts should be made by the Airport Authority to raise funds to build a new airport, and build it fast before more ailines are solicited to operate in and out of Ghana. The airport authorities should talk to Wing Commander Mensah, Dubai Civil Aviation and other credible Civil Aviation gurus around the world to assist in formulating a formidable OPEN SKY POLICY.

MEANWHILE, THE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS USED TO STEAL THE SOME OF THE ON-BOARD MEALS AND DRINKS TO CONSUME IN THEIR HOUSES, WHILE USING THE AIRLINE TO DO THEIR "BUY AND SELL" BUSINESSES.

THESE, AMIDST A MYRIAD OF FINANCIAL IRREGULARITIES AND CORRUPTION FROM TOP TO BOTTOM WERE WHAT LIQUIDATED THOSE TWO AIRLINES.

Open Sky Policy means no protectionist agenda for national carriers. Perhaps, if Ghana Airways would have been allowed to compete on its own merit in an OPEN SKY environment, it would have survived; competition is healthy and the success of Emirates Airlines of Dubai bears witness to this paradigm. Emirates Airline was started with only a couple of leased airplanes from PIA, and through hard work, and knack to compete squarely with the best airlines in the world in an OPEN SKY environment, Emirates today is one of the most successful airlines in aviation history. Ghana Airways had better beginnings than Emirates but failed miserable 'cos of corruption, protectionism and bad management. One of the best decisions the Ghana Government took was to get out of the airline business or the Bank of Ghana would have had to close and bring down the whole financial system of the country. How long should any country pay subsidies to national ventures which are just vents for absurd corruption? In a similar fashion Ghana should sell Valco or close it all together if we cannot find a buyer.

Ghana needs diversity but what about herself take the lead to own its own airline and compete with its regional airways and as much as middle airlines. Ghanaian be wise and use that oil money to buy at least one airbus to start with and you will see how sit fast it will yield returns

To see this, just reflect back and consider the following: Ghana Airways, Ghana International Airways, Ghana National Trading Corp, Black Star Line, State Fishing Corporation, State Transport Corporation, Ghana Railways Corporation, Electricity Corporation, Ghana Water ... continue for me.

Most of them ran into bancruptcy, while those still running have to be 'fed' from public funds ie the make only negative profit.

No one company. Not two. but several companies.

In short, we simply can't do it and shoul forget about trying!

Don't the Ghanaian leadership see the need to reestablish the operation of our national Airline to be better manned by efficient people who won't give out free tickets to ministers and their families and girlfriends of officials of state.
