Everyone has an opinion but have you EVER been inside odf one of those prison? Cells made for 10 people have 60-70 people in them, the food is minimal, mosquitoes, illness the stecnch. And what about those who are remanded but innocent and have been waiting for years for a trial.
Prisons are horrible and dangerous all over, however the prisons in Ghana, China and countries as such are even worse as there are NO advocates for these prisoners.
And another thing, people who steal a chicken so that their family can get can sometimes get 5-10 years in these hell holes. So do you really think that is just when politician, (not only in Ghana) steal and cheat the people don't even one day in the police cells?

This revealation will mean nothing to some of us. I expecy comment like ''people in prison deserve no dignity''. But as properly stated Ghanaians dont deserve to call themselves as civilized. We are not managing our resources well to afford us take care of prisoners. We can liken this developments to guadians who are able to take of their children well but fail to take care of other people of their household who are not their direct children.
The truth is that we dont appreciate the enormity of our problems, that is why we keep praising ourselves. Recently I heard the president say Ghanaians should count themselves proud because good things are said about us. Yes, there are good things one can say about this country. There are bad things which can be said about the country too. But this idea about good things about the country make us lose sight of mountain of problems being faced by the country.
I am a perfectionist so I am not satisfied about anything. I want to see myself improving on anything I do until I cannot improve anymore. I have therefore not been satisfied with the progress chalked by Ghana and I think we need leaders who can do better and more than we have so far seen.
Recently , I read about the achievements of the retiring C.E.O of Acess Bank in Nigeria and I was impressed.I intimited to him not to rest but the world needs more of him.These are people who make our world better unlike those who take leadership positions to amass wealth for themselves.
Those in prison are our brothers and sisters and should be treated as our own inspite of the fact that they have offended the law. Probably, society has influenced them to offend the law.
My readings of Dr Ben Carson's writings, one of the greatest neurosurgeons of our time, have really changed my disposition.
This is the more reason why I think Ghanaians should begin to look at the bigger picture and stop this parochial approach to dealing with matters which affect all of us. Ken, some of us are willing to work with you to ensure improvement in the conditions of the prisons.

I guess Ken has just realised that Ghanaians are among the developing peoples of the world [and that includes the members of the Brotherhood of Nitwits who populate Ghanaweb], and thus not counted among the civilised peoples of the North even though some live in the North among the civilised people. I knew that a long time ago and has been saying so on cyber forums for a while now without having to go to prison to find out.
Getting to know that is the beginning of wisdom and I hope his prison sojourn has done him a lot of good and the rest of Ghanaians shall benefit immensely from his enlightenment through his platform. Let him join with Atugiba who also also learned something knew in prison, even though he spent only 3 days.
It was last year that I told my senior brother that I was fed up being part of the developing people after over 500 yrs of contact with the whites and over 25 years of living amongst them. I wasn't ready to accept certain things in Ghana any longer as "normal". That should be normal to the idiots and morons ruling us who are not civilised enough to develop some of us. Going to prison won't even make some realise that Ghanaians are not civilised they won't know any better!
