Telecom companies fined almost GH¢1m for poor service quality

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has imposed a fine of almost GH¢1m on all six mobile service providers for failing to maintain the quality of standards set in Greater Accra, Western, Brong Ahafo and the three northern regions.

This was contained in the authority’s Quality of Service findings for March and April.

MTN was sanctioned GH¢350,000.00 for defaulting Call congestion and Call Setup Time obligations in 4 of the regions. Tigo is to pay GH¢250,000.00 for defaulting Call Setup Time obligation in the six regions.

Expresso has been sanctioned GH¢200, 000.00 for defaulting Call Congestion obligations in 4 of the regions.

Glo was also sanctioned GH¢100,000.00 for defaulting Call Setup Time and Call Completion obligations in Brong Ahafo Region.

Airtel which was the only network that was compliant with Call Setup time of less than ten (10) seconds in all cities and towns in that period was however sanctioned GH¢50,000.00 for defaulting Call Congestion obligation the Northern region.

Vodafone was the only network operating within the set threshold of Call congestion in all localities, it was however sanctioned GH¢50,000.00 for defaulting Call Setup Time obligation in Northern region.
