The small tree cut down for firewood today is the destruction of timber for use tomorrow! Does the Forestry Commission knows about woodgas stove which can easily replace the coal pot & earthen pot in poor homes, cutting down the firewood consumption drastically. What about sawdusts for plywood, plastic/bamboo for school furniture. Lets think again, thanks.

What else do we expect? When you have a Govt that pumps millions of dollars into a tree planting project during the dry season so they all perished. And even that, bulk of the funds went into politicians pockets.

Government must follow these 3 most important steps and all will be well with Ghana: 1. Reduce the price of gas and kersene for cooking to save our forest. 2 let's start using steel for roofing our buildings instead of wood, and 3. the most important of all. let's start using steel and plastic to build tables and chairs for our schools, churches, theaters, gardens, construction, and even stools in our local homes. This will drastically reduce the country's overdependence on timber/woods. Just imaging the tons of timber used to build furniture for our schools alone. We should use Kumasi magazine workers who could even manufacture desks and tables out of even scrabs for our schools. If we are able to adjust ourselves this way. and stop politicising every issue. we can grow our forests and depend less on timber.

This shameful development is the direct result of unforgivable dereliction of duty by the Forestry Commission and the various Administrations that relegated our Forestry issues to the bottom of their priority lists.
Now, we better prepare to weep blood over inescapable upsurge of prices of Wood products, and escalation of cost of building Houses.
We have ourselves to blame.
May The Lord help us all !!!

Until we change our relationship to these rudderless ships called NDC&NPP, we will continue to read and weep while Ghana retains it's neocolonial status, on it's way to full colonialism.
