  Why should an honest policy to improve conditions of employment degenerate into unbridled greed? Why this constant threat to squeeze more money from the state kitty than is deserved? If the policy document referred to an 'interim market premium', it means that it's only temporal until all the necessary loose ends had being tied up. If the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission are convinced that FUSSAG had no case, why don't they apply to the courts to place an injunction on their action? Government must be seen to be in control and should not permit any group to put it under duress. If FUSSAG defies the court ruling, they should forfeit their salaries for the duration of the strike. No work no pay. In the diaspora when you embark on strike, you don't get paid. Period.

  The demand by FUSSAG has no legal standing. They are basing their demands and the threat of strike on emotions rather than reason. If indeed they have never enjoyed anything that bears a resemblance to marpet premium, why are they asking for it tnis time? And what is it that they call special allowance? If they go ahead with this illegal strike, I suggest they sack all of them and advertise their positions, and if they engage in further illegalities, they law should be applied. It is about time we strive to maintain sanity in the system so that we can make progress.
