I think the petitioners should have avoided using the word 'serial' and just go with 'number'. Because the ignorant people are so confused about what serial number is all about. Whether serial number or no serial number. There is a number on the pink sheet that no other pink sheet has. So if for example pooling station 'A' collects a pink sheet, that number on the pink sheet is solely for that pink sheet and no other pink sheet must have that same number. indirectly, that number has been locked to the name of that pooling station. This means if we find any other pink sheet with that number anywhere, then there is a duplication of pink sheet. So, it does not matter what name you call it, serial or no serial every single pink sheet must have a distinct number that must be different from all the numbers on all other pink sheets. As long as the petitioners found that there were duplicate numbers on the pink sheets, that is illegal and the law can't take that. Just as we can't have the same number on our currency so is the pink sheet. If you find any 2 currencies of a particular denomination with the same number on it, then one is counterfeit. That is what the EC did. They printed two sets and released them into the system with no apparent reasons. Thank God for the Good Job the petitioners did. What EC did is a day time robbery and SC must be trusted to do a very good job. I hope I have helped all of you who are confused about the serial number wahala.

We all need to learn to understand what contempt is, and I can see your point about 'squaring the circle' since NPP supporters including Afriyie and Awuku questioned why the president was not summonsed for contempt when he made his. But both views are wrong and should be discouraged.

Whatever any of us says in the court of public opinion, as long as it does not challenge the judicial process and / or attack any of the judges, we are within our rights and freedoms to say whatever we like. The judges are not listening to such opinions and after all, they are the ONLY ones who will give a ruling on the case based on the authenticity of EVIDENCE presented and argued before them.

Obetsebi-Lamptey appears to believe that they have provided such 'convincing evidence' to the justices. You may disagree but that's just as far as it goes.

There is nothing contemptuous about what Jake has said, and so was the president's.
The fact is that you take your case to court believing that you will win the case and therefore you have every right under the sun to say that you are going to win the case.. There is nothing wrong about such utterances.
Similarly, the respondents including the president are also challenging the charges believing that they too will win the case. Other than that, they wouldn't have put up a defense. They respondents too have the right to say that they will win their case; and therefore cannot be held for contempt.
Saying something or doing something with the sole purpose of influencing the case or judgement would normally constitute contempt.

Nana Akufo Addo and his team must be congratulated for the following reasons:
1. It has brought to public know the levels of incompetence with which our so-called directors of public administration carry out their public duties. Because there are no controls and checks and balances they think errors, fraudulent behaviours (as evident with "Dr" Afari Dyan)are acceptable and must be normal practice. The petition cases has shown this to be unacceptable.

2. The case has also exposed Ghanaians the need for control of political leadership. Thus there the need for a systems to hold politicians especially the the rulling government and the opposition parties accountable and to let them know that they are not above the law and that if anything they are more susceptible to the law than the ordinary citizen as they have to live by example but of which they don't do now.
3. We a controlling body which will be neutral to control bothe the government of the day and parliamentarians'. I hope the SC judges will touch on this.

I have no confidence in Atuguba because he is conflicted as his nephew is the Executive Secretary to the President. His nephew has a substantial interest in the outcome of the case as his continuous employment is dependent on the President remaining in office. In no democratic jurisdiction, will a judge adjudicate over a case, less serve as the President of the panel of judges adjudicating a case in which a close relative has a substantial interest in the case outcome. No self respecting judge will remain on a case under such scenario as it calls into question the impartiality of the judge and his fairness in his rulings. I for one know who Atuguba will vote for. IS there anyone in Ghana who does not? When judicial rulings becomes so predictable due to appearance of impartiality arising out of family relationships, it brings disrepute to the court and diminishes the stature and perception of the court to the public. Atuguba has done more to hurt the image of the court than could be imagined but everyone is scared to say the emperor has no clothes because they might be charged with contempt if they say it.

Regarding the cases of Sir John and Hopeson Adorye, I have studied what exactly they said carefully and the law of contempt as it's stands now.Though what they said appears to be abusive and a bit over the top, There's nothing within their sentences that has interfered directly with the facts of the 2012 election petition in court comparing to what John Mahama has been saying so far. I want any lawyer here to come out and say the opposite. Though we all want peace that does not mean we should allow judges to make a mockery of what exactly the law says on contempts and act only to put fear in people that will tend to criticise their conduct and fairness in a case pending before them. wishing for peace does not necessarily means we should allow people to impede the way to justices. Let us examine what Sammy Awuku said and was called for contempt, he was concerned that the conduct of Atuguba in court regarding the way he treats Tsatsu and issues regarding the petitioners is unfair.This can't be contempt under the present law as is now, I have great difficulty in believing this to be .I see this as a criticism on issues which could not have interfered with the facts of the case in court.He was only criticising the conduct of a trial judge and only questioning his fairness. Judges has to much power when it comes to contempt of court issues and it's reckless for a nation not to properly define what exactly is contempt and what judges could do or not do when faced with likely contempts. At the moment, nothing like that do exist so if you for example smile at judges who makes a mistake in his speech, he can summon you for contempt to appear before him and believe me, he can if he wishes to do so and no one can check his activities and bring it under control.Even the chief justice cannot. this is absolutely wrong in this present modern age of freedom of expression. currently fanatics within the bench could use this tool to put fear in people who would talk about their conduct in cases before them. Judges at the supreme court have been acting as both jurors and judges in contempt cases brought before them so far.This is what my white colleagues saw as stone age tactics and will be reckless as a nation to let this continue in the way and manner that Atuguba has initiated. We are not living under a dictatorship, we live in a freedom of expression world. This shit cannot happen in advance countries so we Ghanaians must see something wrong with this. Currently the peace of this nation is already placed in the Harm's way by the way the 2012 elections was conducted and only the truth, real justice and interpretation of the facts and laws governing elections will uphold the peace but not an attempt to put fear in people in the way and manner Atuguba has initiated via contempt of court cases. its pretty sad for a nation like

Lawyer Rob Hughes, who is representing two gay Russian men claiming refugee status in Canada, says he expects more Russians to make claims based on sexual orientation.
Mr. Hughes, who focuses on sexual orientation and gender-based claims, says his two clients told him numerous people in Russia have expressed interest about seeking asylum in Canada.
The Globe quotes newly minted Immigration Minister Chris Alexander who says that these types of asylum cases "will of course be looked at very seriously by our very generous system."
In an email exchange with Yahoo! Canada News, Alexander's press secretary reiterated the minister's comments but clarified that decisions made by the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) are made without government interference.
"Canada has a fair and generous immigration system," Alexis Pavlich said.
"Refugee claims are heard by the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB).
"The IRB is a quasi-judicial, independent body, which provides a fair hearing to asylum claimants. Decisions are made based on the merits of the specific facts presented in an individual case, and in accordance with Canada’s immigration laws."

Canada has, however, been proactive in the recent past in resettling gay refugees from transitional camps abroad.

Saghi Ghahraman of the Iranian Queer Organization told AP that Canada is a favoured destination.
"They prefer Canada over other countries, when they leave Iran, and they have very good reasons for this," she said.
"[It's a] friendly and supportive society, and with great social services which are utterly crucial for most gay, lesbian, and transsexual Iranians who need all the support when they arrive in a new country."
