GHANAIANS SHOULD KNOW THAT IT WAS NOT AYIKOI OTOO PER SE THAT SAVED SIR JOHN FROM JAIL, IT WAS RATHER THE NATIONAL PEACE COUNCIL THAT PLEADED ON BEHALF OF HIM. SO DO NOT THINK HIS LAWYER SAVED HIM.

I know that deep within him he don't mean what he is saying and has regretted big time. After all the good old book says that it is only the FOOL who regrets his actions whilst in jail. In your case the statement made by you was not contemptuous hence you needed a strong lawyer to put such a case across hence lawyer atta akyea I believe was the best however in the case of sir John the statement made by him was very contemptuous hence he needed a lawyer like Ayikoi Otoo who will plead on his behalf. Ken your choice was the best. We need brave lawyers to let the judges of the SC know that they are. Not gods but human beings like us who should be fair. I believe if atta akyea had defended Sirjohn he would have pleaded for him. Remember that every case is unique in it self.

This is one topic I was trying to avoid commenting on but I have to.

First, this statement is false.

"Although the two politicians were successfully defended by their Counsel, former Attorney General Nii Ayikoi Otoo, Kuranchie says the former Minister would have been a wrong choice of defence lawyer for his case."

Ayikoi Otoo DID NOT DEFEND THE ACCUSED SUCCESSFULLY. Both were found guilty and fined. The judges took a political decision not to imprison them, another option opened to them.
If I were Atuguba's son, I'd be angry with him for not pushing for at least a day's imprisonment for Sir John. Perhaps, he did but was overruled by the majority of pro-NPP justices on the panel.

Now the two circumstances are very different. If Kuranchie had said the things that Sir John said, perhaps, lawyer Akyea would have gone to the SC crawling on all fours to beg, cajole and plead for his client! Everybody has agreed that what Sir John said was very bad but not all have agreed that what Kuranchie said was bad. Therein lies the difference in the approaches of the two counsels.

Perhaps, without the hindsight of the earlier imprisonment, Ayikoi Otoo too would have gone to court to defend staunchly Kuranchie, instead of admit guilt and beg for him. Hindsight played a major role in the tactics of Ayikoi Otoo besides the prior admission of guilt. This does not make Ayikoi Otoo a more astute and better lawyer.

This is all noise about a mirage.

Because over 90% of Ghanaians would prefer to go t jail for ten days instead of paying 50 million cedis for just a comment. Again I do not understand why compare the pleading by counsel to the indept cross examination by lead counsel Addison. I find pety for a person like Dr Yamakloe making such childish argument. In any case in passing judement the Justice did not say it because of the pleadings by counsel hence the fine. He rather stated that, due to the situation at hand and for the fact that many people have also made such deregatory statements but have not been summon. that of Sir John and Adorye were too much such that, they need to be punished to serve as deterent to others and also to save gurde to peace. Again we all know that sending Sir John to Jail would have been a bad jugdgement for Ghana. A security conscious people in Ghana knew that the justices could not send John to jail if they did then they were not security conscious. Matured people like Dr. Tamakloe should not make such childish argument.Moreso a funding member of his party. If he does so he should know that he is piching Ayikoi against members of the Party which can bring divistion into the party.

We should be talking about our natural resources,the national plan for the collection of taxes how we can help the Govt.The usesage of our taxes.The performance of those appointed to manage the nation,how the govt institutions can be honestly audited to show the right situation at hand.Every govt institution like the Ghana Revenue Authority,GNPC,Mining Ministry,ECG,Water Company,Ghana Railways,SCC,PWD,Govt Printing Press.national lotery. My plead to the media is that let us discuss how we can allow govt institutions to work.how to investigate what our nation's money is use for. less insults.Lets try to be a bit patrotic.we must report corruption.Govt must pay workers well.We should watch out for the foreigners who are dividing us.We must agree to ban party colours and made sure that political parties use only their names.no need for symbols also. We should do things that will unite us more than what will divide us.Education must be free.there is the need to discuss the way forward.
